SpectatorWCU Gaming now has a general use Team Speak server. You can connect to it at wcugaming.org. I will post a how to use Team Speak thread in the how-to forum sometime tomorrow. You can use this TS server for whatever you want. World of Warcraft, CS, whatever…Just log in and register, and you are good to go!

Spectatorso whats the point in a team speak server….do we really even need one
April 2, 2007 at 12:29 pm #19239Kuros
SpectatorThe voice quality is much better than any in-game system. We can also make admin channels so that our admins can use teamspeak for admin chat. Also, a lot of WoW players may want to get their friends together and be able to use voice com thru Team Speak. There are a lot of great applications for this if we can get people to use it.

I’ve used both extensively and for all purposes vent has always been the better choice in any gaming situation
. Is there a reason why were using TS and not Vent?April 2, 2007 at 1:40 pm #19244Bitey

. Is there a reason why were using TS and not Vent? The reason we are using Team Speak and not Ventrilo is because Vent is proprietary crap that limits us to 8 users. Team Speak gives us 100 slots and is free so long as we do not charge for those slots. Also, the voice codecs for TS2 are just as good as, if not better than Ventrilo’s.

SpectatorTeamspeak’s voice quality is higher than Ventrilo when the admin’s set the server up correctly.
Ventrilo uses GSM 6 and 11. Teamspeak uses CLEP 5 and 7, GSM 14 and 16, and Speex 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 16, 20, and 25. Each of those represent Kbit/sec baudrate.
If Ventrilo was still free I’d say use it but it can’t do anything that Teamspeak can’t.

First I will say that I understand that we are using TS because it is free.
Ventrilo can do a lot that Teamspeak can’t. Anything that Teamspeak and Ventrilo have in common, vent generally has a better application of its use. Vent is also updated more often. (TS3 should be out some day… it was due at the end of 2k6, that could potentially have many great options)
Ventrilo codecs are only limited by the person in control of the server. It is not only GSM 6 and 11.
Any claim that TS or Vent has better codecs is incorrect based on the above information. They can have the same codecs. It has been my experience, using the same codecs on both applications, that ventrillo still has superior quality of sound.
Between its ease of use, simple and efficient gui, TTS, customization of sound, surround sound positioning, and ability to control just about every aspect of voice; Ventrilo is simply my prefered application. My favorite option is its superior control of incoming sound. Often times when using TS I find myself frustrated because I cannot get the other users sound adjusted properly. This is by far the biggest problem I have with TS because it really does affect gameplay when you don’t have enough control over how loud your friends are
.Also, remember that both applications codecs are only limited by the server on which they are hosted. I’ve seen vent hosts with Speex (32KHz, 16 bit, 10 Qlty) 5520 bytes/second. So please stop saying that one can use these codecs over the other; these comments are simply not true.
I may setup a vent starting this summer, just depends on the money flow.

SpectatorHaha, No that is not Exforce vent. That is Adam’s Vent. You guys had a chan in it at one time, but you guys decided that you were not going to use it anymore. The quality of Vent is worth the small price, but I give it to you for free. I cannot believe you would say such a thing. NoDice you guys know your always welcome in my vent. Ill pass the channel if you want. 1/2 the people in there play on the wcu server on the regular. The other half are just my personal friends. I purchased this vent for the use of the club back in the day. I say dish the teamspeak and use a QUALITY voice product. You guys have admin i know gxti has 3 accounts on it.

April 4, 2007 at 2:54 am #19335Kuros
SpectatorIf I were to use Vent, this is what I would need:
WCU Gaming
-CS 1.6
-CS 1.6 Admin Channel (PW)
-CS:S
-CS:S Admin Channel(PW)
-DoD:S
-DoD:S Admin Channel(PW)
-CZ
-CZ Admin Channel(PW)
-GG
-World of Warcraft
-Starcraft
-Guild Wars
And I would also need the ability for further expansion. I have this with team speak (users may also create their own channels) and I do not with Ventrilo.
April 4, 2007 at 3:28 am #19339gxti
SpectatorYeah, one neat thing about teamspeak is that anyone can create temporary channels that disappear once they empty out.
The three big reasons I’d rather have teamspeak:
1) It’s free to host for gaming clubs / clans / etc up to 100 people. Because of this, we can host it locally, on aphrodite, and not ping 3000 or be unable to chat when the internet goes down or goes lossy
2) Also, this way we’re not dependent on one person – if you disappear or can’t pay for the vent server, it’s gone
3) It supports linux as well as windows and mac (mac through a third party)
Hopefully the next release will up the quality a bit by supporting higher sampling rates.

Spectatorwow so now you think that adam is going to disappear, or stop paying for a vent server he has had for 4 years…w/e guys if you don’t want our continued support of the club that we helped found and start then just say so
April 4, 2007 at 8:55 pm #19368Kuros
SpectatorUgh…wow…just wow. Why do you always come on here questioning the things we are doing? Last time I went in Ventrilo before this week, all traces of the WCU Gaming Club had disappeared. I took that as a hint that maybe Adam was moving on. He has a job and he’s on the career path now, and I figure that the Gaming Club should be low on his priority list because he trusts those who are in charge to make the correct decisions. I’m more than happy to have Adam’s support, and I’d rather continue onwards with him behind us than otherwise. However, every time we try something new, it’s quite annoying coming on here and listening to how you don’t agree because that’s not the way it has “always been done.” The club is growing, and we have to grow with it. Otherwise, we are doomed for failure.

The club is still a high priority on his list, cause he created it, and made it into what it is.
Will you allow me to honestly speak my opinion of the rest of that without me being banned? I have a right to an opinion

As long as I can get the channels back, as well as admin, this is a moot point.
