SpectatorIt looks nothing like doom 3 x_X.
Watching the videos it looks like a 3rd person suspense thriller action game!
The 0 gravity zones seem like they could be a lot of fun. Having to shoot the aliens limbs off looked neat.
I think the only thing it has in common with Doom 3 is the fact that its supposed to be a bit scary. Although Doom 3 took that to an annoying extreme.
.I’m glad people finally posted responses to my news

SpectatorWatch your video card temps and/or test the game with a different video card to see if you can recreate the results. I lean towards video card problem but it could possibly be a power issue, although I think that is less likely considering the way the monitor acts. It really could be a number of problems. If it were me I’d just use old video card for a while and see if it happens again.
Anytime my monitor has shutoff but it wasn’t a crash it has had to do with my video card.

SpectatorI got about 12 years practice on the thing… The last 3 years have been mostly ‘hey I’ll pick that up and play it every 3 months.’

if any pc tourry is going to run long it would be tf2, thats why i like kips line up. starting at 9pm prob run ~2hrs or more that gives plenty of time to pack up everything and do prizes. prob wont take 3.5hr’s but if it does it would not be a problem. last time we were cutting short on a few of the tourrys, i dont think we will run into cutting tourneys short this next time if that schedule is followed (or something similar, pending which games get voted in at the meeting)
someone print that think out and bring it to the meeting
Are you asking for a challenge?!??!?!

SpectatorYou don’t need anywhere near 3.5 hours to run tf2 x_X.
I did the math in one of the TF2 threads… Even accounting for a bunch of tie breakers, wasted time setting up teams, someone disconnected, delayed matches.. etc… It should not take that long lol. Not that I would mind playing tf2 for 3.5 hours
. It’s just a bit excessive when based around warm-up map, 1st round, final round.Snippet from TF2 forums:
“Team Generation (5 or 10 mins), Team Collaboration (5 mins), Warmup map (15 or 30 mins), first round (15 or 30mins), final round (30 mins). 15 Minutes allowed for stalemate situations.
Total: 2 hours.”

SpectatorYeah… I might not buy all of those games but they are on my list right now. If it turns out one sucks then I’ll scrap it.
I will definitely be buying Fallout 3, Fable 2, and Dead Space though…

SpectatorI think my last post came off a bit edgy, sorry about that, I woke up at 7am >.<
At any rate, you didn’t do a ‘bad’ job. I merely wanted to point out the flaws that I saw and think we should work on. You did fine for your first time.

SpectatorFORCE everyone who gets a raffle ticket to put their name on the opposing ticket. Problem solved instantly.
Actually, by this logic you don’t even need raffle tickets. One could simply use small pieces of paper with names on them.
Naturally raffle tickets are easier to manage so I say we stick with them and as people are given a ticket, we write down their name on the opposing ticket. Since we already have to check their gamer handle, we could use that too…

SpectatorWe don’t need a coin toss for anything. Everything should be accounted for and announced/planned before the LAN starts. It should also be clearly announced during the LAN. Coin toss is just a way of not ‘planning.’ Nothing in the TF2 tournament requires a decision be made last second and so a coin toss is unnecessary.
2fort is only a turtle map on pubs that have more than 8 players per team. If your in a tournament its usually attack – defend – attack – defend until someone finally either out plays or out smarts the other team. I love the matches where one team touch walks the intel all the way to their base… It’s always an epic battle!
It is very hard to turtle with only 1 engineer/demo on that map. We’ve played it in 3 / 4 (I think?) LAN tournaments so far. Spawn to flag room takes about the same amount of time as Turbine unless you go sewers.
We could always do either cp_well or ctf_well since well is also a classic map that requires good teamwork to pull off. However that map tends to be stalemate prone. I love it but with a proper defense it is hard to get the intel.
I was thinking that maybe the warm up could be 10 on 10 Gravelpit? Since everyone seems to be against my suggestion to tournament that map
.If we were to tournament it, we would need to open up 3 classes to 2 per team for that map. Engineer, Scout, and Soldier. Two rounds, max 15 minutes each round, if there is a stalemate refer to tiebreaker rules. Honestly I think it would be a blast and a good change of pace from other LANs tournaments we’ve had.
I’m not sure if you are saying ‘no argument there’ in regards to weapon unlocks means that I have no argument or you agree. However, if it is the former then I will say that you are quite mistaken. My argument is valid and I have yet to see a good reason for banning any unlocks. This isn’t to say there aren’t any reasons. The only good argument I can think of is that not everyone will have the unlocks. The problem with that is that everyone can get the unlocks if they try and they have 2 months to do so
. My point was that the medic syringe gun and backburner should be allowed. The two weapons balance each other out. If were going to ‘ban’ unlocks then we need good reasons with references to back up those reasons. Just saying ‘those weapons are banned’ isn’t a good reason. In regards to announcements, we didn’t know the number of rounds for each map, the time limit, wtf steamroll was doing as the final map, what maps we were going to play, etc…
The tournament itself was not run well. I never even heard the rules announced and it took way too long randomly generate teams. The TF2 tournament, at most, should take 2 hours. These are things that should go quickly and smoothly. There was a lot of wasted time during this tournament because of misinformation. You were not organized and I have about ten people from that tournament who agree. Steamroll was an awful map choice for the final round, whether it was 1 round or 3 rounds it is still horrible for a final round. If everything was announced clearly then why was there so much confusion throughout the tournament?
Team Generation (5 or 10 mins), Team Collaboration (5 mins), Warmup map (15 or 30 mins), first round (15 or 30mins), final round (30 mins). 15 Minutes allowed for stalemate situations.
Total: 2 hours.
This gives room for error in that we can shorten or extend map time based on how much time has been wasted.
This criticism is here to help improve the LAN and based on what I have heard people complain about both during and after the LAN.

SpectatorIn the worst – words even – of a famous man,
It’s time to choose.
We can’t guarantee that all big games won’t be scheduled next to each other. We can try but at the same time we need to realize that there will always be someone who wants to play two games at the same time.

I absolutely loved Beta 5/6/7. After the game went retail I stopped playing, it just wasn’t the same. Then sauce came out and I got hooked again.
