SpectatorExpert can be slightly brutal, specifically if you get a tank spawn and a terribly placed witch spawn.
Also, in Versus I think it will be extremely difficult to beat expert mode.
Difficulty setting only changes 2 things:
#1 – Anything above normal spawns a witch
#2 – Zombie damage is increased.
Nothing else changes but those zombies hit HARD on expert lol…
Since it increases damage, if you are up against human players playing the zombies, they will also receive that damage buff!

SpectatorThe spawn time we had last lan was fine. We should keep it that way. 3 seconds is way too short. Death is a penalty and 3 seconds isn’t very much of a penalization.

SpectatorI wish we could get 24 or 32 people playing… I really want 6on6 or 8on8… It makes the game so much more interesting.
Also, since we do random teams isn’t it a bit unfair to say 1 of each class? What if 2 really good soldiers get randomly placed on the same team? 1 player is forced into playing at less of his potential. This also limits class mix strategy a ton. There are some class that you don’t want stacked but 1 for every class is extremely low for TF2 tournament standards.
A good limit structure would be something like this:
2 – Soldiers
2 – Scouts
2 – Pyros
2 – Sniper
1 – Medic
1 – Heavy
1 – Spy
1 – Demoman
1 – Engineer
The specific classes that really need limits are scouts, engineers, and medics. In tournaments each team typically has to have the same amount of medics to stay on even ground. Most people limit that class.
Also, what is the reasoning behind each of the weapon unlock bans specifically? For instance, if the reasoning is balance to gameplay, what about the weapon is imbalanced and are there any discussions online where I read about the imbalance. I know the pyro unlock lost its +150hp buff and feels very balanced now. The medic weapons seem to be well balanced as well.
Just a thought.

SpectatorThe demo is a lot of fun. I preordered for PC.
The thing that sucks is the ‘matchmaking’ system they implemented. People on steam forums are up in flames about it. A server browser exists for the game but dedicated servers default to not allowing you to join a server through the browser. I’m sure they will fix all of that.
Gameplay is nuts and awesome. The demo is only 2 pieces of a map but its definitely got the dynamics of never knowing when the zombies will attack goin for it. The weapons feel good for a zombie game and friendly fire really makes you ‘think’ before you shoot.
I had to learn to use the melee (right mouse button) well. It is a quick swing and can really save your *edited*. Currently (this may be a bug) but you can hit R for reload and then do a melee attack and your weapon is reloaded by the time the attack is done. Currently it saves my *edited* but I don’t know if that is intended
.Just my initial reaction.
Oh, and the TANK hurts bad

Spectatorlol, I could never pull it off in person.

SpectatorHaha yeah I planned on it man… All I was doing was trolling you. I mean a little bit of what I said I care about but 95% was troll.
Like, I totally think we need a sweet 10 on 10 warmup round with no restrictions for ‘fun.’

I was on the worst team last time and we played for about 40 mins total. And since there is NOTHING that has to be prepared beforehand to get this to work, why is the timing of this idea such an issue?
If you are stuck on a bad team, you get to play 2 rounds: warmup and round one, that is how it has been for the past 2 years. Rydell’s system means everyone gets to play at least 3 rounds. Who loses there?
What are you talking about?
Except for last LAN which Rydell ran,
Round 1 = 30 mins of warmup
Round 2 = 1v1 and 1v1 for 30 mins
Round 3 = Winners vs winners and losers vs losers
Everyone played all 3 rounds.
Thats how it was run for 3 tournaments and it worked fine. Nobody is left out ‘assuming’ there are 4 teams.
Speaking of that, if we have 24 people we can still do 4 teams of 6, if we have 28 we can do 4 teams of 7. etc…

play to have fun,, its a friggin lan event.I play to win because it’s a competition. Last LANs tournament was screwed up by Rydell and it looks like this one is going to be as well.

I see kappa’s points but I think Rydell’s reasoning for changing things up a little is to give people more play time. If you are on a bad team, you get to play 1 20 minute round right now and thats it; with rydell you get to play at least 2 rounds even if you suck horribly. Besides, rydell’s plan incorporates 4 rounds instead of 3 which isnt exactly a huge difference in time espececially since we do have the extra time to play with, so why not give it a shot? or something like this where there can be no tieAs it stands now everyone plays for a total of 1.5hrs or 3 maps(rounds).
Even on the worst team I played for 1.5 hours last semester.
This idea should have been announced sooner and I’m standing by that.
Rydells system doesn’t give people more playtime.

I’m sorry, but if I recall correctly, I did start a thread where you gave me ideas on what to do this LAN and I have been working on it ever since, then when I found out we have 2 1/2 hours this time and another hour’s breathing room because we left some leeway to move tournaments around, I figured that this might be a good idea, so far, you’re the only one to disagree because you’re obviously afraid of change. I also plan on shortening the round time to 10 min, 3 captures. If I can’t get all the kinks worked out by the LAN, we will go with your idea and then try this one the next LAN. So if you could just sit back and stop telling me how to do my job, I would greatly appreciate that…If Major could elaborate on what he means, I would like that also…
I’ll tell you whatever I want to tell you. I’ve been in this club a lot longer then you and I have dealt with tournaments for around 10 years.
Change is fantastic when its useful and planned well by a person who knows what they are doing. Change sucks when it is in the hands of a procrastinator who comes up with terrible ideas.
The round time is 10 minutes? I’m not playing in a tf2 tournament for a total of 30 minutes. Cupcake TF2 tournament fails.
My point is that you waste time until the last few days to actually start caring about what we are going to do for the tournament.
I’m done here, maybe next semester it’ll be run by someone else.

SpectatorThere isn’t a reason to change the way we’ve hosted the tournament in the past.
Time is always a factor.
What happens when both teams tie? (A tie-breaker is had and if it happens every round then that is 3 tie breakers)
What if everyone ties every round? (Then the winner is based on tie breaker wins which = fail).
I feel the structure of round robin bring needless complication and tries to replace a system that works.
The way it should be done:
3 Rounds
1 Round = Warmup (Important because it allows the teams to get to know each others play style).
2 Round = Teams are paired and play against each other.
3 Round = Losers play the losers, winners play the winners.
There isn’t a reason to change the way we’ve been doing it.
The round robin idea is a pointless change. The tournament runs fine under the conditions we have been using.
ALSO, this idea should have been brought up a long time ago. You have had a lot of time to post any ideas in change to tournament structure and you pick 3 days before the tournament to announce this?
If we do round robin I probably won’t play.
Time:
3 Rounds = 1.5hrs
Setting up teams = 10-15 minutes
Getting into servers = 10 minutes
Announcing winners between matches = 10 minutes
Tie-Breakers = 15 minutes
Total: 2.15hrs – You don’t have time to *edited* around with a new system 3 days before the lan. I tried having this discussion right after the last LAN and asked for any ideas to be posted ASAP because the last LANs ideas were all posted last minute and it was run very inefficiently. There isn’t an excuse for bringing up this idea so close to the LAN.

That’s the point, he hasn’t done ANYTHING. Period. Most people elected president have years of gubernatorial or congressional experience, all Obama has is 2 years in congress and 2 years campaigning. He’s a wheeling-dealing salesman just like all the other people who sell things over infomercials. If you really want to know how Obama works, go look at how he got elected to the Illinois legislature. Obama protested the signatures on nomination petitions to a closed door election board meeting until none of his rivals had enough signatures to be on the ballot. Apparently any signature that was printed or not collected by a correctly registered party official was thrown out, eliminating thousands of democrats from the nomination process. Most of the signatures removed were legitimate. The Michigan and Florida ballots in the 2008 primaries were supposed to be thrown out but Obama “did not want to penalize his party’s primary voters on a technicality.” I guess if you’re Obama you get to screw the voters on a technicality when it hurts you and not when it helps.
He talks about leveling the playing field but his career is built on clearing it.
Clearing the playing field was a smart move. I would have done the exact same thing. Also, have you ever considered that people might fake signatures or not get them through appropriate means?
He ran one of the best campaigns ever. His organizational skills are amazing, his ability to communicate is extremely effective, and the ideas himself or his aides come up with are actually good. His leadership qualities are excellent and when I look for a president, those are the qualities I look for. Naturally some of the things he said he wants to do will need to be tweaked but all in all he hasn’t done anything wrong. I think he has shown every quality I need to see to put someone in a leadership role. I think that was an innovative idea
.At this point you are just nitpicking. Go back 8 years and relive the Bush presidency a few more times. At least this time there was actually a candidate I wanted to vote for. The last thing we needed was for McCain to get sick or die and have Palin run the country. Obama simply has more energy to get things done. Whether or not he succeeds is yet to be seen. I base my vote on the character of a man and Obama is everything I want in a president. My dad yells at me all the time for supporting him. I’ve heard it all and I still support him. I agree with his policies (well most of them!). I don’t ‘know’ but I ‘think’ Obama will make a great president. I do know that no matter what person was elected, I wouldn’t go around talking about how hes going to fail before he steps up to bat. That just seems wrong to me. I tried to like Bush and didn’t have a negative opinion until he made about 20 mistakes in a row.

SpectatorJust a note, I actually got it so that the ghouls could live in Tenpennys tower… For doing that I got the ghoul mask and 500 creds
.Kappamerc
SpectatorI totally just did a quest where I was given a ghoul mask as the reward
.Then I went to this scary building in the southwest part of the map that was full of ghouls and a creepy feel/story behind it.
Totally digging the mask though. I walked through the entire building not having to kill one ghoul… I must admit, their sounds along with the creepy music made me feel a tad tense, even with the mask on. There is actually a pretty neat item if you go all the way through the building
