The Kirby’s Dream Land extra mode allows more than one life and four bars of heath. Luiz was trying something extremely hard by anyone’s standards. He just happened to sound really annoying while doing so. As for Kaizo Mario World, even with save states, it’s a profoundly difficult game. Only the most hardcore of the hardcore can beat it without save states.
