I took one of those posters and put it in a scrapbook, so that I may have fond memories of that LAN and all of you fine people. That’s not creepy, is it?

Z: Whether or not you can beat me in Smash Bros with Ice Climbers dosen’t mean anything. As I said before, the quality of the chacrters is subjective. It’s fine if you love the characters, but I sure don’t. These are equally valid opinions. Now, if you would like to propose a friendly compition among fellow club members, I wll happily accept.

    That was joke.

Whether the Ice Climbers are any good is subjective. I think they were some of the worst characters in Melee, but if you dig playing as the awkward Inuits, go for it. Admitedly, their new Brawl stage looks cool.

You should change your avatar to a possum. This isn’t to be mean, this is a Simpsons reference.

You see, I could have gone with a Marv Albert joke, but no. I took the moral high road.

Random thoughts that haven’t made it into other posts:

Something I am really starting to like about Subspace Emissary is how all the Nintendo characters live in the same world and interact with eachother. It’s like Videoland from Captain N, except it dosen’t suck.

There are few things in life as funny as Dedede’s Final Smash. He sings and dances as Waddle Dees fall from the sky and run around causing chaos. Luigi’s Final Smash is just bizzare. It’s like a bubble of hallucinagenic drugs radiates outward from his body.

I am glad Ness is still in the game and am hoping that we get to see a Saturn Valley stage. Or maybe a Cave of the past stage. All the platforms would look like intestines!

Ice Climbers definitely do lose some combo ability when they are apart, but totally useless? Nah.

Well, Scott Ramsoomair agrees with me. So there! http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=245

    ZaplinG said:

Jigglypuff is not cheap. He just has a very solid air game that dominates most other characters’. His rest ability is good, but is very hard to pull off in high level play. He is also been in every smash game, so there is no way he could be out.

While playing as any heavyweight character, Jigglypuff is impossible to beat if the other player knows how to use the rest attack.

    ZaplinG said:

This is taken directly from smash dojo:

“There’s a character named Ness who has appeared in the Smash Bros. series up until now, and Lucas is very similar. They are from the same family of PK users. But Lucas’s physical combat style is quite different. By which I mean, he does not have the same standard moves.“

While I concede that Lucas’ Smash Attacks are very different from Ness’, his Special Moves are virtually identical.

    ZaplinG said:

Luigi’s recovery was totally different, his super-long wavedash made his movement completely different, his dash attack is useless, his tall jumping required you to combo and approach totally differently, ect.ect.

Luigi’s standard, down, and up special moves are the same as Mario’s with slight changes. If he ain’t a clone, then he’s mighty close. Not that I hold it against the character. It would not surprise me if, just as Mario’s down special move has been changed to that squirt gun of his, Luigi’s down special move were changed to his supernatural vacuum.

I don’t know how many people actually do care, but Ephriam dear I am willing to debate the game with you. :D Ice Climbers are fantastic, unique, and have a cult following. Jigglypuff simply stays because she’s an original. It’s been said that Lucas plays differently from Ness. Marth is back because he’s awesome (Roy was just so low tier that it wasn’t even funny… same as Mewtwo. Luigi isn’t a clone at all and has different move sets, just like Windwaker Link.

Falco, however… ugh. I just hope they make him not so cheap.

AND YAY FOR POKEY. It’s also bad that I own a R.O.B. It never worked. Just like my Power Glove.

    1. My problem with Ice Climbers are that when one goes, the other is useless. They are also extremely obscure which may not be a big deal, but always irked me. Also, I once read part of an interview with the guy who designed that game. The interviewer asked the designer to ellaborate on the relationship between Nana and Popo. He said they are “More than friends, but less than lovers.” Since then, its hard for me to think of anything else while playing as them.

    2. Used correctly, Jigglypuff can be a very cheap character and I just never cared for him/her. We don’t need four playable Pokemon characters.

    3. The only difference between Lucas and Ness’ play styles is that Lucas’ standard special move freezes instead of explodes.

    4. Luigi’s moves were almost identical to Mario’s with only a few exceptions.

    5. Nobody knows what Toon Link’s moves will be, but considering his bow and arrow, its a safe bet he will be a clone of Link.

    6. Yay for Pokey, indeed. I love Earthbound as is evident by the eyeless, aquatic reptile which is my avatar.

    7. I also have a R.O.B. and a copy of Gyromite. It didn’t work.

    8.

When I first heard about the Subspace Emissary, I was skeptical. I just felt that a story doesn’t belong in Smash Bros. Yet, the more I’veseen of it, the more impressed I’ve gotten. This game is going to be excellent. Famitsu already gave it a perfect score. Of course, they also gave a perfect score to Nintendogs….

For the record: Grim Dingo was refering to a now discredited roster that also included King K. Rool. TrebuShae was refering to a leaked roster which is almost certainly ligit.

Well, it certainly looks real. I guess the rumors of a 50+ roster were false, but nine up from the previous game is still cool. I’m certainly glad Gannondorf is back, and his Twilight Princess makeover looks great. I could have done without Jigglypuff, Ice Climbers, and Game & Watch (Ice Climbers but no Mewtwo? Blasphemey!) Still, the lack of Pichu is nice.

One odd thing about the roster is how it seems to betray the notion that there would be no clone characters in this game (Fox/Falco, Link/Toon Link, Mario/Luigi, Ness/Lucas, arguably Capt. Falcon/Ganondorf). It makes me wonder if they will alter some of their moves. This would be cool, as I never liked Ness’ moves, but am fond of the character. Ridley will make an awesome boss, but part of me wanted him to be an unlockable character, as much of a long shot as that was. Oh, and ROB ftw.

However, I am still a little skeptical that this is the final roster. Notice how there are only two third-party characters. Sakurai made it sound like there would be at least three. The game comes out in Japan tomorrow, so I guess we’ll find out soon.
