SpectatorI don’t see a suggestion thread so I’m making one while I can remember something I want to bring up next meeting (whenever it is)… post ’em
(if someone with the power wants to change the name, like say if we don’t call the meetings like 2008.1, feel free to go for it.)
Suggestion #1: SGA general body meetings and club responsibilities related to them. (I went to one)

SpectatorSuggestion: Replacing Console CL position with Sub-council comprising of 3-5 people.
January 18, 2008 at 12:38 am #34048MasterP
SpectatorIt’s probably not a bad idea to split the consoles up but there needs to be a single person in charge to make sure everything runs smoothly. If each seperate console runs itself independent of everything else I imagine things will get chaotic, if nothing else than simply from a scheduling standpoint. Maybe keep the console CL but allow him to appoint individuals to run the individual tournaments.
January 18, 2008 at 8:38 am #34056Oh Malley
SpectatorThat’s assuming anybody wants to run the individual tournaments. Aside from Zapling, I haven’t seen anybody willing to do so. Furthermore, I haven’t seen anybody bring their equipment when they first arrive.. even though they will bring it “if needed”. Lack of commitment here. And honestly, I doubt it would be that chaotic and I don’t think everyone would be in charge of 1 single tournament during the LAN. If anything, they share the workload of locating people, keeping up with brackets, setting up future matches, and checking in on another tournament if its in progress.

SpectatorActually, there should be a council leader for XBox 360, one for PS3, one for the Wii, etc. etc. The reason behind this is simple. We have a council leader for every PC Game that we play, thus we should have a council leader for every console we support. I believe that is the way it is written into the constitution, thus the way it should be. It is also written into the constitution that every council leader gets to have their own cabinet.
Here is a direct Quote from the Constitution, if you have any further questions:
“Each council will be represented by one (1) game or gaming platform, which is voted on by the general membership (see Article V). The maximum number of councils shall not exceed ten (10) at any time. No game shall be placed on the server(s) without having a corresponding council. Also, no gaming platform shall be supported by the Club without having a corresponding council and leader.
Each council will have a governing representative, hereafter referred to as council leader, who will directly oversee the activities of their respective council.
It is the duty of each council leader to facilitate and run meetings for their respective council, manage the general direction of their council, organize smaller events in which their council can participate, and finally promote unity and a sense of community within their council. It is also the duty of each council leader to update and maintain their respective game and to report any problems or limitations that the game server may have, while updating or upgrading their game server files.
Each council leader will report directly to the executive council and attend all executive council meetings. It is the responsibility of each council leader to report the agenda and general minutes of their respective meeting no later than twenty-four hours after their respective meeting to the Secretary, so that the Secretary may keep an accurate account of all happenings.”
All you guys have to do is read the constitution or ask me I know what is allowed and what isn’t allowed per our governing body, the constitution. And console Council leaders do not need anyone else over them, i.e. head Console Council Leader, as other Council Leaders do not have anyone over them other than the Executive Committee. Consoles should work together to come up with an agreeable Lan Tournament situation as they have worked in the past with our other hosted Games. This really is a simple process and I understand the lack of comittment, as I know from first hand what you are talking about. This is the way it was supposed to be and it was the way it was back when we first started supporting consoles, but People got lazy and didn’t want to keep track of council leaders so they lumped them, which of couse lumps all the work as well. Just trying to provide insight if it helps.

one for PS3,
January 18, 2008 at 12:36 pm #34074Oh Malley
SpectatorYeah.. There is no PS3 representation. Just the 1 Josh brings. That’s still putting a workload on whoever is in charge of the 360 though, since there are more tournaments on that than the Wii. ( There are 4 360 tournaments to the Wii’s 2. ) Furthermore, there needs to be a change in the number of staff for consoles to accommodate for growth. If you want the community to grow, you need to increase resources (which includes manpower). Granted, we could use more consoles and TVs than we normally use (which is about 4 360’s 4 TVs, 2 Wiis, and 2 projectors) which causes major time conflict issues when running tournaments. I have also discussed adding a tournament or two with a couple people to help contribute to the growth of the community. So maybe an amendment is in hand. The console community is different from the PC one with different needs and different management techniques and different interests.
So.. all in all.
Another Suggestion : Amendment to change staffing positions for console division?
And finally to contribute to overall growth
Suggestion: Promoting the club through media on campus (be it ads in the university theater, fliers, TV62 ads, etc.).

The Marketing Administrator is supposed to Promote the club and its activities to the University, to students and to other interested parties. However, we haven’t had a reliable MA since we created the position. But its already in the constitution that the MA is supposed to do that.
Explain exactly what you want to change about the Console Staffing issue, So that I can draft an amendment.
January 18, 2008 at 12:51 pm #34080Oh Malley
SpectatorMaybe making it into simply a council rather than 1 individual leader. With the console community, players can play and usually do play any console they choose (by exclusivity of certain titles or better gameplay for certain systems). So usually any console gamer can address the needs of any game tournament. So rather than having 2 individual “dedicated” leaders, lump the two positions into a Console Council member. Again, I don’t have a definite number on this because I don’t want to leave empty positions because of lack of representation.
About the M.A. thing, sometimes making it a motion in the meeting will “encourage” the new M.A. to do so, as well as let the members become informed to help pitch in any way possible (such as promoting by word-of-mouth) and creating a stronger sense of community.

SpectatorHow about we all bake cakes? Then we’ll get a judge to hand out ribbons for prettiest and best tasting cakes (seperate catagories). After that, we’ll auction off the cakes in a big cakewalk and use the money on the LANS.

The problem we had when their was an official meeting every 2-3weeks the crowd became smaller and smaller,, got to the point it was only the exec’s admins and council leaders showing up. I say a min of 3 official meetings per lan and a bunch of smaller get togethers is best.

BTW at least one executive needs to print or copy down the ideas for the next meeting from this thread. And copy my threads because the content needs to be read at the meetings especially my post about Positions and their duties.

Spectatorif we plan to have 2 lans this semester we need to get this meeting in and get the new exec’s trained sometime in the next 2 weeks. we got a date yet?

SpectatorI plan on bringing up Smash Bros tournie rules. I promise not to complain about the no items rule, I just wonder if Final Smash attacks should be allowed. I vote yes.
Also, I was serious about the cakewalk idea. I plan on making a Boston Creme Pie.

SpectatorYes Training the new executives is a very important task, one that we have slacked on a bit in the past. Let’s not forget that after the elections, the new executives and any old executives need to be trained and have their duties and what is expected of them explained to each of them thoroughly.
Though every executive should read the constitution that way they not only know what is expected of them, but of each and every other member of the gaming club. It should help. Just a suggestion, of course.
January 22, 2008 at 9:44 am #34373Falcon
Spectatoractually, I’m gonna go ahead and cast my lots that this semester will be generally beneficial and none too stressful, my schedule actually is a dream with so much lazy time despite 19 hours. I will nominate myself for Marketing Administrator if noone else is interested.
