I’m not touching the ATIvs Nvidia flame war other than to say I <3 Nvidia and that chart about crashes in Vista is likely because there is more Nvidia cards out there.
I will say that for games the Core 2 E8400 is likely to be much better and cheaper than the Q9300. Depends on what other apps you run and how multi-threaded they are.
Also, do you have any dreams of overclocking one day?
off topic from maps or whatever, but I playing with some friends on a different server. When you used an uber, it would play the Super Mario star music. Also when you’d get various melee kills it’d would play some song related to the weapon. For example, a baseball bat kill would play the “Peanut butter jelly with a baseball bat” clip. Totally frivolous, but I sure thought it was awesome.
I’m with Liam; I load the next map very fast.
Loading the next map is very hard drive intensive, hence why laptops suffer.
The easy solution is to buy a faster hard drive and more RAM. Since you mention the game crashing when you press the start button, I’d guess you have enough RAM for TF2 and nothing else. If you post some more detailed specs, we could advise as to an upgrade or tweaks.
Sprays are the most unpredictable thing. .jpgs work in theory, however .bmp seems to be work much better. To convert to .bmp open your intended image in MS Paint and hit File->save as then choose bmp from the filetype. A quick google search has turned up this tutorial on FPSbanana, TF2 Spray Tutorial. I haven’t done that in a while but I recall it works with a minimum of screwing around.

The TF2 Stats page does not work. It simply gives a bunch of errors like “Fatal Error: main()”.
My favorite class has changed a bit with time. When TF2 was in beta, the demo man was unbelievably powerful and people seemed to forget about the sticky bombs. Even though they “nerfed” the demoman (twice), I still play as demo a lot.
Recently, I’ve been one of those people going for achievements. I like to think that if I’m #1 or 2 on the team then it’s OK and I’m not just farming for new guns.
Those are my favorites, however a skilled player can lead the team with any class. Even a Medic or Engineer can consistently dominate.
