SpectatorSo what do you guys think the best class overall is?
IMO, everyone seems to be abusing pyro, and that’s for a reason. But I prefer scout, because the pistol is actually pretty strong O.O
Whats your opinion?

SpectatorI typically play an agressive defense Demoman. If you can get used to the projectile nature of the pipebombs it can be a very powerful class as you can bombard an area from around the corner. The remote-detonate pretty much guarantees that the person who touches my intel first dies.
Nickname was a monster Pyro before the achievements were released and Kuros is full of win when using a Soldier. Kalia is a decent Medic.
All classes are good when used correctly and they all have benefits. Tbh, the game is very well balanced to contain so much Valve code.

Spectatoryea i think that the pistol is very strong and has good range.
i think that for straight out leading a team a scout, spy, or soldier.
for defending it’s a sniper, engy, demo, or heavy
the point is that each one has its own role which is why this is a team oriented game.

Spectatoryeah i also love the scout. powerful and quick and can out run/doge everyone/everything except kuros’s rockets
However pending map, pending offense/defense, and pending if my team is currently winning.. i really like all classes.
if i had to pick one i dont like to play is heavy. that fattie is just to slow.

SpectatorSo if this is such a team oriented game, how come there are no leagues for it?

My friend and I were discussing this, and we came down to the conclusion that this game isn’t marketed for leagues, it is aimed towards the younger audience because of the cartoony graphics. Most leagues have players that are around 20+, while TF2 is meant for 14+.
It’d be nice to have leagues for TF2 though, because it’s so team-oriented, you can’t solo at all.

SpectatorToo many ppl use pyro now but thats just bc of the achievements.
In al honestly I BY FAR have spent the most time playing scout.

Winrar strat removed.I think you, me, Kuros, Kalia, and Chupathingy executed the winrar strat to the T at applan. My greatest achievement was on 2fort; there was an engy and demoman guarding the intel. Kuros (soldier) and Kalia(medic) distracted them while I (pyro) went in and set everything on fire, SG and all. Kuros told me he couldn’t even see anything cause the whole room was on fire.
We capped that intel.

SpectatorI dont think there is any one ‘best’ class.
I used to prefer the medic and the pyro. Then achievements came out and everybody jumped on the bandwagon. And I hate playing a class when too many people are already using it, so I’ve resorted to doing other things when I play.

There aren’t any leagues because TF2 requires FORETHOUGHT. It is just as much a strategy game as it is a FPS and that sort of thing makes a league hard to run with. Don’t kid yourself, most players in CAL are

Spectatoryea lol tf2 requires just as much strats if not more than css or 1.6
and the graphics are for <20?
most the kids i know that are like in atleast 3rd grade all talk about sex and violence and all that *edited*. so currently ratings are bull

Spectatorif i’m in a moderately serious server, then I prefer the spy because I can be the goofball that everyone hates
… I can go behind enemy lines and have fun that way (and he’s got a knife
), or I can cloak up as my own team just to make the other team’s rushers pause for a few when they see another heavy / engineer / sniper / demo in their way
now, if it’s just a server full of people doing stupid crap, I like playing the pyro for his mad air guitar skills and amusing (and now deadly) kamehameha-like taunt.
and for farming out achievements, I like to be the spy and just stand around and burn my way through a bottomless case of cigarettes… Dance Dance Immolation and Got a Light? are the fruits of torching me while burning down cigarettes

SpectatorI am partial to the sniper, but I am fairly aggressive, I enjoy pushing as a sniper…but if mah team needs some more help offensively I do enjoy being a heavy, and preferably with a competent medic nearby…

Spectatormasterp its because your love connection deflects the bullets soaring past your heads
and i love the fact that most people are unaware that as a spy you can be your team or the enemy team. i usually start as a pyro on my own team then when i get to a good spot i switch to the other team and cloak. its usually very obvious when im backing up into the enemy base at full health so people shoot and ask questions later. i hate being a spy now though because people just spray the pyro flamethrower and if you get hit once thats it

SpectatorOmg I know what you mean urban>.<
I was invisible, and trying to backstab a few medics/heavies, when all of a sudden i get lit on fire. I got WTF? HOW COULD HE HAVE SEEN ME?
and yeah.. :/
But what I usually play nowadays, is soldier! *edited*, the rocket boost (which I JUST recently learned how to do efficiently ;P) makes the soldier incredible

Spectatori know alot of tricks with a demo. on 2fort i know how to get from one sniper spot to the other with only 1 or 2 sticky’s but you are low on health wen you get across
one time i was trying to do a jump and didn’t realize it was a crit. so i blew it and i *edited*ing FLEW to the other wall. died on impact because i went so high lol

152-0 with the spy, *edited*es.

Which is why I like being near ammo when I defend something because I’m usually sending out little bursts of flame either into the room itself or at anyone who walks in. And I just like doing it for fun…he is a PYRO after all.

SpectatorMy favorite class has changed a bit with time. When TF2 was in beta, the demo man was unbelievably powerful and people seemed to forget about the sticky bombs. Even though they “nerfed” the demoman (twice), I still play as demo a lot.
Recently, I’ve been one of those people going for achievements. I like to think that if I’m #1 or 2 on the team then it’s OK and I’m not just farming for new guns.
Those are my favorites, however a skilled player can lead the team with any class. Even a Medic or Engineer can consistently dominate.
July 3, 2008 at 4:48 pm #50305torankusu
SpectatorI like all the classes. It’s hard to pick a favorite. However, the three classes I have played the least are the spy, demo, and pyro. I usually pick whichever classes the team doesn’t have or needs more of. I try to think about the team.
But yeah, usually we don’t need so many spies, though, and since the pyro update came out, I think 1 or 2 of the servers I play in have restricted how many pyros you can have. I need to work on the demo some more. I think I have less than an hour of gametime with him. Also, I can see how people would think the cartoony graphics are supposed to appeal to younger people, but the game’s rated M (which is 17+). Assuming people follow the ratings, do you really think the graphics are what hook 17-year olds (and up)? I’m way older than that, but for me, it’s the gameplay. I do like the cartoony graphics, though, haha.

SpectatorI like the Engineer. It’s satisfying to watch the sentry kills and teleporter uses go up over time. Admitedly, it gets kind of boring during ctf matches where you’re stuck in one room most of the time, but they are great for defensive cp matches. Also, I can’t wait for the Demoman update. My guess is one of the launchers will be replaced with an invisible landmine or something.
July 5, 2008 at 3:38 pm #50408pyro urban
Spectatorfor the demo man updates i think it’ll just be a stronger gun and maybe hold more ammo. like 8 of the grenades or have like 15 sticky bombs planted
