newrayzParticipantDear Wing Nut,
Aye, I agree with you on my sources. They are pretty pathetic. I read a lot of things, but unfortunately don’t always remember where I get certain information. Call it lazy, but last time I checked I wasn’t signed up for debate 101. I realize biased and sloppy sources drastically discredit my thoughts, but unfortunately time is of the essence. I’ll research my previous points in the near future, to bring my ideas back up to par.
For the rest of your reply, I’m just going to quickly point out one part and why I think it isn’t inaccurate. Not in very much detail, as I don’t really have time to research atm.
-The rich aren’t going to be taxed 70% or 90%, EVEN THOUGH they control over 90% of the wealth in this country. And as you may already know, we have a progressive tax for a very good reason. The rich get more out of the government. Yes I am saying it, the rich get more from the government.
Defense – If someone has more to defend, as in more at stake, it makes sense that they have to pay more for defense. Someone who has more, has more to defend. Which is partly why they get taxed more.
SSI -Social security payments, which make up another 20% of the budget, are dependent on income– if you’ve put more into the system, you get higher payments when you retire.
Investments in the nation’s infrastructure- transportation, education, research & development, energy, police subsidies, the courts, etc.– again are more useful the more you have. The interstates and airports benefit interstate commerce and people who can travel, not ghetto dwellers. Energy is used disproportionately by the rich and by industry.
Education- A good chunk of public school funding comes from state property taxes (at least in Texas), and obviously schools that sit on expensive land with extremely wealthy suburbs as their surroundings are clearly going to benefit more. This isn’t some misconception, some myth. If the wealth issue in schools didn’t have an effect, why do the numbers say other wise? It is clear that wealthier more funded school systems are going to have the edge over lesser funded schools. The opportunity for a rich kid to get into trouble, to make bad grades, to flunk out, IS MUCH LESS than a kid in a poor section. And don’t tell me the opportunity is equal for all public schools, BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT. I went to a high school where we didn’t even have Advanced Placement Courses, because we simply didn’t have enough funding. So tell me, how is that fair again?
Beyond all this, the federal budget is top-heavy with corporate welfare. Counting tax breaks and expenditures, corporations and the rich snuffle up over $400 billion a year- compare that to the $116 billion spent on programs for the poor.
Your’s Truely,
Flaming Libbie
P.S. I have been to all the states of the Southern Rainbow. As I said before, I go to Texas A&M University, and I can tell you first hand racism is still strong in the Lone Star state. It’s not as blatant or up-front, thank god, but the backdoor racism is overwhelming. You guys probably didn’t hear about this, but their was a egg tossing of Obama’s face on my own very campus. Also, if I do recall, their were certain parts of the Dallas Fort Worth School district that didn’t even de-segregate until the 1990’s.

Inauguration ceremony is coming up soon, PPPAAARRRTTTEHHH!! lol
It’s going to be something ridiculous, like over forty thousand people. The above website shows some historical inaugurations including:
*In 1789, George Washington pronounced the words, “So help me God” after taking the oath; other presidents have followed this example.
*William McKinley’s 1897 inaugural was the first to be recorded by movie camera.
and my personal favorite:
*In 2001, George W. Bush inauguration was interrupted by two naked protesters.

WTF does that even MEAN??? I am from Texas, does that mean I am racist?? Have you EVER been to Texas, it is NOT even close to the most racist state in this united states…Why don’t you take a trip to Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansaw, Louisiana or any other part of the true “South” and then continue talking out of your *edited* about stereotypes of people from certain states…First of all, I go to Texas A&M University, and I was born and raised in a poor section of South West Houston Texas. So I have every right to claim how racist this state is. I am not claiming EVERYONE is racist, but I will tell you FROM MY 22 YEARS OF LIVING HERE, that there are indeed lots of ignorant bigots. So please don’t assume I was just talking out of my butt, because I am not.
And Secondly, I was not totally serious. I was making a point, if you read the rest of my post, you would see that I said it’s simply ridiculous to claim a United States President as anything but a Patriot. The reaction you got when I said what I did about Bush is exactly the same reaction anyone would want to get if they were serious about referring to a President as a Fascist, because it is simply rediculous. I may hate Bush with all my guts, but he still is our President, and although I may disagree with his decision making, I know his intentions are for our country.
And for the questions you asked. Why should the rich have to pay more? Simple. Because the price of living for them impacts them much less than the price of living for a poor person. That is the main reason, although they are getting taxed at a higher rate, they will still have enough money to do whatever the hell it is they want and then some.
newrayzParticipantMasterP said:
Might want to hold off on that. According to the CBO, Obama’s “new, new dead” will push us into largest deficits in the history of this country. Percentage wise, it will be worse than WW1, WW2, “Bush’s Wars”, and everything in between.Last year the deficit was around $450 Billion but when you tack on $350 Billion of democrat congress bailouts and Obama’s extra $700+ Billion “new, new deal”, THAT is what creates the $1.1 Trillion deficit. Not anything Bush did.
That seems a little low to me. We were a trillion dollars in the hole BEFORE the bailout came to be. The number is close to 2.4 trillion dollar deficit. Of that Bush is responsible for half, because half of that came from his war. Also to note, the CBO is flawed, and Obama is well aware of this.
http://www.heritage.org/research/budget/wm2019.cfm
From the above website:
Conservatives have few grounds for agreement with Obama’s agenda, but on these points we should be in complete agreement:
* The CBO revenue baseline is wrong;
* Preserving current law is not a policy to cut taxes; and
* Allowing any of the current law tax provisions enacted in 2001 or 2003 to expire is a tax hike.
MasterP said:
Another thing that really *edited*es me off is the “tax cuts of the rich” spew. It’s surprising how many people are blind to this. Let me break it down for you, the top 1% of income earners (~$300,000+) pay ~35% of the taxes. The top 5% of income earners pay ~55% of taxes, the top 25% pay ~85% of the taxes, and the top 50% pay ~97% of the taxes. The top 1% pay over 10 times the amount that the bottom 50% pay. What Obama intends to do is pay poor people to stay poor by giving people that don’t pay taxes a larger tax refund. At least Bush’s tax cuts actually helped. There are a ton of ways the rich can avoid being taxed, and they take full advantage of that. Also something to note, business owners like to do a little thing called hand me downs, which they basically give part of their tax burden to their employees. How is that fair? The whole point is, the rich can afford to take on a tax burden, as they should. They have the most money so they should pay the most. Not every poor person is lazy or ignorant. A lot are, but to say that “besides a few rare cases, poor people deserve to be poor” is ignorant within itself. Sure, there are a few bad apples, but there are a lot more genuine single moms and low income families who struggle to get ends meat. They don’t deserve to work 80 plus hours a week, but they have to because that is the only option. It boggles my mind that conservatives can preach to be christian and all that nonsense, then turn around and not give a flying hoot about their neighbor.
MasterP said:
Something I’d like to know is what happens in 2 years when Bush’s tax cuts expire? A good chunk of the middle class has become dependent on the lower taxes and Obama has already said he has no intention of renewing them. This whole “taxcut for the working middle class” may completely come out in the wash by the time Obama leaves office. Then again, the media will quietly ignore the whole thing.Actually Bush’s tax cuts expire in 2 year ONLY for people who make over 250,000. Obama intends to keep all the cuts for everyone below that number, and add a couple more.

If you didn’t save any money or invest in your retirement, you don’t deserve to retire or get free handouts for being a wasteful spender, ignorant, or lazy. With a few rare exceptions, every single person who’s poor fits into one or more those.Feel free to argue about it and I’ll explain how any poor person can get into college for free, simply because they’re poor. The middle and upper class are the only people who pay full tuition. Of course, to get into college you have to have good grades which is where most people have a problem, because it’s easier to blame the poor school systems than it is to walk or ride a bus to a library or tutoring center.
Poor people do get into college easier, but then again a poor person has had a much harder life than you or me. The problem isn’t walking to a bus because poor people already do that. See, they can’t afford as much time as you or me. You think it’s an obvious answer to their problem and the poor are just blind? MasterP you are a real Messiah. Why don’t you go down and tell them your obvious solution. You won’t, because it really isn’t that simple. Ghettos, traps, poor neighborhoods, all of that are complex issues that can’t be solved with an uplifting of ignorance. Have you ever had to decide on working or school when you were 14 or 15? That’s a decision that a lot of poor kids have to make, a decision that better off kids don’t.

Facism: “A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.”–Centralization of authority under a dictator: government control of markets, banks, and industry through bailout the program
–stringent socioeconomic controls: Helping the poor and minorities by “redistributing wealth” from the rich
–suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship: Obama is the only candidate to date to kick reporters from newspapers that didn’t support him off his plane, independent studies found that Obama’s press coverage was much more positive than McCain’s and that McCain had nearly 60% negative stories and 15% positive ones while Obama was balanced at ~30% positive/negative/neutral
–policy of belligerent nationalism and racism: Obama played the race card before anyone came close to bringing up his race as a negative
About your cute Fascist points:
– Even if our banks are totally in the hands of the government, that doesn’t mean Obama is the dictator. There are still checks and balances.
-Obama isn’t controlling anything, redistribution (If that is what you want to call it) is a WHOPPING 4-6% increase in taxes for a WHOPPING 5% of the population. Yeah okay that is a REAL control freak.
-So he kicked people off his plane. Anyone who has a plane first off, has the right to kick whoever he wants off. Secondly, the “Obama’s press coverage was much more positive than McCain’s and that McCain had nearly 60% negative stories and 15% positive ones while Obama was balanced at ~30% positive/negative/neutral” point you make, has nothing to do with fear or terror.
-He is part black, it is a monumental achievement for the black community, for Christs sake they only have 1 month out of the year, its about time!
Your whole Fascism spew can be used with any other president. Here I will give you Sir Fascist Bush:
–Centralization of authority under a dictator: government overstepping power, going into a war without approval, manipulating intelligence.
–stringent socioeconomic controls: Giving tax cuts that don’t really do much, banning stem cell research because it’s “inhumane” and “life is too precious”, then turning around and say “collateral damage” is unfortunate but part of war.
–suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship: Terror and censorship? LOL that is bush’s middle name. Did you all forget 9/11? He used fear as a catapult to get us into this mess of Iraq.
–policy of belligerent nationalism and racism: He is from Texas, enough said.
No one is fascist in this country, period. You republicooks will always be around with your ridiculously large guns that most probably compensates for something. If any president truly did in fact step out of the proper line, he would be checked faster than a turban in an airport.
MasterP might have succeeded in an epic trolling, but I found this random thread much more interesting than the majority of the nonsense we post on here. It feels good to try and use the noggin sometimes! lol
newrayzParticipantNo one (here I don’t think) is blaming bush totally for the economy. But he is partially responsible. We are still in a WAR, which last I checked wasn’t helping our economy at all. And that debt thing you talk about Nickname, we have never been this much in economic debt ever.
$1,000,000,000,000.00
That number up there? That is a trillion dollars, down the tube. So bush isn’t to blame for the DOW going all wacko, but he spent the last 8 years blowing money in Iraq.
I think it’s more of a “Guilt by association” kind of thing:
“I blame bush for the war, the war is bad for economy, therefore I blame bush for the economy.”
You can’t really blame one person or even a group of people for this. Just like you can’t totally blame bush for this. But he still has a piece in the collective blame game that will probably never end.

More than anything, I am concerned with Obama’s choice of Leon Panettan as CIA Director. I hear he wants to remove all of Bush’s interogation policies and replace them with tickle fights.(Don’t get me wrong, tickle fights can be a lot of fun, but they don’t work well for information gathering purposes.)
ACTUALLY:
Evidence of tickle torture
There are a small number of documented instances of tickle torture. They happened in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and in these instances restrained victims were tickled upon the bare soles of their feet, apparently against their will and for the pleasure of their tormentors. In one instance the victim, a spouse that the torturer had found troublesome, became insane and was subsequently confined.[citation needed]
There is currently no evidence that tickle torture was ever widespread or was practiced by governments. The very small amount of related documentation discovered thus far is all from England and America.
First, ‘Orrible Murder: An Anthology of Victorian Crime and Passion Compiled from the Illustrated Police News (by Leonard De Vries, published by Book Club Associates in London in 1974) (pp 73-4) reissued a news item first published in the Illustrated Police News on December 11, 1869: ‘A Wife Driven Insane by Husband Tickling Her Feet.’ The account states that Michael Puckridge had previously threatened the life of his wife, described as “an interesting looking young woman.” Puckridge tricked his wife into allowing herself to be tied to a plank. Afterward, “Puckridge deliberately and persistently tickled the soles of her feet with a feather. For a long time he continued to operate upon his unhappy victim who was rendered frantic by the process. Eventually, she swooned, whereupon her husband released her. It soon became too manifest that the light of reason had fled. Mrs. Puckridge was taken to the workhouse where she was placed with the other insane inmates.” (page 74) The husband was given away by Mrs. Puckridge’s niece who was aware of the torture and spoke to neighbors about it. The article does not say if Puckridge confessed his crime to the niece after the deed was done, or if the niece actually watched the feather relentlessly scraping away at her aunt’s soles, and ultimately, her sanity.
Second, a Sunday, September 6, 1903, special to the New York Times included a small item on its first page (page 1, no byline), “Treated Patient Brutally.” At the Hudson River State Hospital, one suicidal patient, John Hayes, was immobilized on a bed for his own safety. While he lay helpless, the patient’s woes were multiplied by one of the hospital attendants, Frank A Sanders. “Sanders is said to have confessed that while intoxicated he amused himself by tickling the feet and ribs of Hayes and pulling his nose.” (page 1) Sander’s also gave his restrained victim a black eye. Another hospital employee came upon Sanders while he was entertaining himself at his patient’s expense, and the criminal was brought before a grand jury.
The third instance of documentation is found in David Ker’s New York Times article, “England in Old Times” (page 11 of New York Times, November 13, 1887), where Ker writes, “Gone, too, are the parish stocks, in which offenders against public morality formerly sat imprisoned, with their legs held fast beneath a heavy wooden yoke, while sundry small but fiendish boys improved the occasion by deliberately pulling off their shoes and tickling the soles of their defenseless feet.”

And btw, McCain isn’t Republican in very many ways at all. Had he been he would have won as a good number of people were turned off to his policies and alliances. Most of the independents that helped him get the party nomination didn’t vote for him in the election.I don’t know where you’re coming up with 5% but I know the NIE report at the time gave high probabilities that he either had large stockpiles or never destroyed previously discovered stockpiles. This was confirmed by several other governments. As Bush still depends on this assessment and Obama will also be depending on this assessment I would be hesitant to really do a whole lot of bashing as the “horribly inaccurate, lying, and evidence fabricating” intellience agencies Bush used will also be used by Obama when making military decisions. And Obama can’t replace the analysts.
well I was referring to the G-man when i said Republican. As in his Adviser Gramm.
And as far as bush is concerned, what about that letter he fabricated? The one from the CIA?

The point about the undocumented workers is that they are simply that. Undocumented workers. Not criminals like some people make them out to be. There are no doubt a few bad apples, but the majority of them just want to work for their families. And they work harder and longer for little to no pay. They do jobs that NO ONE else would want to do. Have you ever seen or talked to an undocumented worker? I can say I have. They are people too is all I am saying, people that bring much more benefit than detriment to our society. All those republican business owners would be much less wealthy without them, because I bet you a million bucks they have hired undocumented peeps before. Everyone has.
newrayzParticipantMasterP said:
We call them illegal immigrants because it’s against the law for them to be in this country. Most of our forefathers came here legally, were quarantined for diseases, and sent home if they didn’t have work. There is no comparison between then and now. Unless of course you’re talking about immigration before this country was founded, then I guess you win by default as nothing can contest such a stupid argument. Not that it has anything to do with the argument, it’s just a shout out to any undocumented workers out there. Found this on LULAC’s website. Not sure how accurate it is, but it’s something to think about.
Undocumented Immigrants Effect on Social Security
*Undocumented immigrants compose about three percent of the total US population. (Josiah Heyman of the University of Texas at El Paso)
* The estimated seven million or so illegal immigrant workers in the United States are now providing the Social Security system with a subsidy of about $7 billion a year. (The New York Times)
* Immigrants contribute billions of dollars annually but receive no public pension in retirement, are not eligible for Medicare, and are not entitled to any other benefits. (Social Security Administration)
*Most undocumented workers pay taxes, and they pay a variety of taxes. (The New York Times)
* The money that undocumented immigrants paid in 2004 added up to about 10 percent of that year’s surplus – the difference between what the system currently receives in payroll taxes and what it pays in pension benefits. (Social Security Administration)
*The money paid by illegal workers and their employers is factored into all the Social Security Administration’s projections. (Social Security Administration)
*After the 1986 passage of the Immigration Reform and Control Act, the Social Security Administration began receiving mountains of W-2 earnings reports with incorrect or fake Social Security numbers, and placed them in the “earnings suspense file.” Since then, the file has grown, on average, by more than $50 billion a year, generating $6 billion to $7 billion in Social Security tax revenue and about $1.5 billion in Medicare taxes. (Center for Urban Economic Development at the University of Illinois at Chicago)
* Many older workers return home to Latin America when they reach retirement age. (BusinessWeek)
It’s much longer, so if you want to check out the rest here is the link:
newrayzParticipantThis mess was made possible by the Gramm act (Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA)), which McCain supported. The Gramm act deregulated the banking industry, essentially removing the net that would have stopped it from falling.
Gramm was McCain’s economic advisor. A Republican’t. Go Figure!
And as far as I can recall, the percent chance Iraq did have weapons of mass destruction was something like 5 percent. 5 percent? we go to war for that small of a figure? So he didn’t lie about it, but didn’t come perfectly clean either.
But, I guess to be fair, we can blame both sides for this garbage. I can’t break down arguments that fast and off the top of my head, so I will have to get back to you for my response to the rest of your rebuttal. tootles
newrayzParticipantactually it is. People make mistakes on taxes all the time. I love how people like to pick at little things democrats do, like miss a tax here or there, or getting a little head on the job. BUT when the other side drags the whole country into a war based on a lie, cough weapons of mass destruction cough, its A OKAY. Oh or how bout when the president lands on an aircraft carrier with a poster that says MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, leading everyone to believe that the war was over, when it actually meant it just got started. Or how bout the fact that the former people in charge of our economy COUGH REPUBLICANS COUGH were also the people responsible for the fall of the economy. But lets just forget about that, and worry about who obama picks as treasury, because its the little things that count. Give me a F’ing break.
And he can go back and set restrictions or change things on the agreement. Why?
BECAUSE HES THE PRESIDENT! So deal with it for four years.
And the proper politically correct way to say what his housekeeper is, is undocumented immigrant. There is no such thing as an illegal immigrant. If there was, some of our forefathers would be considered illegal, where are their papers?
Also, if you haven’t noticed, the defecation hit the fan in 2001, when we stunned the world by voting in bush. We have been a big overflowing bowl of crap for the past 8 years. *edited* right it’s change.
