ParticipantIt’s pretty much to finalize things before the next LAN (posters, rules, etc) and to discuss communications issues between executives.

ParticipantHonestly, I don’t even remember off the top of my head who the secretary is. I was just there when Kaz counted the attendance sheet.

And they wonder why the LANs turn out so …. mediocre.
Which is why we had over a hundred people at the last one?

Oh yea? Well:
– LoL sucks
– MtG is for children
– And ROB is the most broken Brawl character since Kirby. Id know cause I can never beat Kirby.
lol
– PS3 sucks
– Blazblue is for weaboos
– And Ragna is the *edited*est character in any fighting game, he’s worse than Venom and Bridget.
Ouch. That sounds hateful. And I would disagree with you if the following was not true:
– The Xbox 360 is the best and most innovative console since the Virtual Boy
– If Heros of Newerth wasn’t the best game ever created (all hail the PC Master Race)
– And if Jin Kisaragi was not the most heterosexual male in the entire BlazBlue cast.
Speaking about the PC master race, when are we going to implement facebook flash games into the LAN events?

ParticipantCan’t believe how much we got done last night. The alumni are going to be shocked when the meeting minutes come out!

ParticipantYou cannot argue with the statistics. Meta Knight deserved the ban.

It’s just the nature of the series and it isn’t going to change. If you can’t cope with that there are plenty of other fighters, maybe you should pick one and stop whining.
I haven’t heard anyone on campus complain about the ban. People I’ve talked to are relived that MK is banned.

Glanced through the first 6 pages, couldn’t find a reason. Besides thinking he’s overpowered, which is an argument that could be made about any of the high tiers, was there a reason given for it?
I never had a problem killing metaknight. Then again, I didn’t use any of the “high tiers.”
The last time I checked the numbers, Metaknights won over 40% of competitive Brawl tournies. In a game with 35 characters, having one that dominates that badly is ban worthy.

One thing you might look at doing is having the club host MTG events seperate from the LAN events and have no entry fee but do have a physical object prize, like boosters. I know you’ve done this already with donated prizes but hear me out. This may cost the club money but you could offset that by having a freeplay MTG tournament at the LAN with the prize being a first round bye at a MTG event or some such. Such a system would encourage MTG players to come to the LAN, where they DO pay to enter, but since they’d be playing other games as well, which isn’t against school policy, the money you make off them is legit on the books. That money should easily offset the cost of prizes at seperate MTG events.
Interesting idea. I’ll think up some logistics for this and bounce the idea with some execs.

ParticipantI talked to DSCE about this last year, and from what they said was we could have prizes or an entry, but not both, which really boils down to removing the incentive for either the club to hold one a MTG tournament or people to attend said tournament. However, we did have one club sponsored MTG tournament last year with free entry fee and donated (by individuals, not the club) prizes. I feel the DSCE is incorrect in labeling MTG a game of chance, and the lack of legal restrictions on companies and stores who run events like these prove it. It’s really a shame that the club can’t hold MTG tournaments, because the club could make a profit while players would have lower entrance fees than they would at hobby stores (I’ve crunched the numbers on this). Additionally, I know many students who are interested in on-campus MTG tournaments.
I plan on talking to them again this semester about the issue. I don’t know how relevant this is to poker players, but if you have any questions or comments on the issue, PM me.

Aw yeah, someone with taste.

ParticipantThe LANs are already pretty loud, I think the music would either be unnoticeable in some areas.

I wanted to know what you were thinking with your insulting (and proven wrong) statement.
How many is “a lot”? Also, how was the statement wrong? You just said TF2 gets a a good showing at the LANs, and that free-to-play will likely increase the campus playerbase, yet you saw no interest in it at VBH. To some degree, doesn’t that prove my point?
It certainly doesn’t make it insulting or completely wrong.
You also didn’t mention seeing any interest in Starcraft2 or BFBC2, both of which also have strong campus playerbases.
Like I said, what games the people that randomly happen upon your booth play is entirely dependent on the crowd and the vibe your booth projects.
Over 80% of students who mentioned games they play included League of Legends.
Your statement was wrong because you said PC gamers do not go out anywhere, including VBH. I know there were lots of PC games at VBH. I have talked to freshmen who were interested in TF2, just more of them seemed to be interested in LoL.
Also, the thread should be renamed Ephrayim’s derailment of cs:go.

ParticipantFor the on-campus people who may be reading this thread, I highly encourage you to attend the meeting on Thursday. LoL had some rules/organization issues in some of the past LANs, and at the meeting, we plan on smoothing them out before the LAN. This will involve discussion on the rules, teams, and prizes for this game.

I assumed it was a rhetorical question. LoL is a PC game that’s been played at the last couple LANs so… yeah that makes them console players.
I mean did you really think I’d say they weren’t PC gamers?

I believe the servers were mentioned at the last meeting before the summer.
The problem with that is the servers were outdated then and still are now. Even Felix’s own TF2 servers are so horribly outdated and broken that they had to be turned off to keep them from lagging out everything else.
lblUsername1 said:
I do know that I haven’t heard any interest on campus in CS. From what I’ve heard from freshmen, the games they want to play are league of legends, melee, and gears of war 3.
Alot of that will depend on the crowd you’re asking. PC gamers don’t go to valley balleywho, in fact they don’t do much of anything outside of stay in their room playing video games. There’s too many gaming clubs at other universities that have large FPS populations for me to believe that WCU doesn’t have anyone interested in it at all.
Btw, since you’re reading this, now that TF2 is free it could easily be made to be a huge draw for the PC section if someone that cares about it is elected into PC leadership. I’ve tried to contact Felix about this and other issues over the last few months but other than joining your minecraft server to ask I don’t think he’ll ever bother to respond. Speaking of minecraft, how’s the server been since I optimized it?
A lot of LoL players were at the Ballywho, do they not count as PC gamers?
As for TF2, I didn’t hear any freshmen asking about it, but it typically gets a decent turn out at the LANs. Honestly, I predict it becoming F2P will increase the turnout for the game at our events.
I’d still like this question answered.
