    Update!

The tournament will be free to enter, but there will be prize support! Exactly how much is yet to be determined and distribution will be based on number of entrants.

If you’re still looking for DnD and 40k events, Quantum Games in Franklin (about 30 min drive) will be holding events for both of these, I think.

Oh and FYI, the mini-LAN will be postponed until this is over (cause I imagine many of the people who show up will be attending this and honestly, like I said above, I might go :) )

Dude, just run Vamps. You can make them pretty solid in Standard without much of a monetary investment. Losing Nocturnus hurts, but at least they gained Skinrender and Grasp of Darkness.

Yay for Brawl, MNR, BB, GG, and SC2!

I’m glad the MTG also got settled out, it should be fun.

Also, me and Buttons are holding a Minecraft freeplay tournament at the LAN. Details on this soon.

Infect doesn’t really need it; it’s faster than Conscription. For instance, a hand of Vector Asp, Groundswell, Groundswell, Swamp, Forest, Forest means you’ll win on your 3rd turn if they have no answers/blockers.

I know things have changed since I left (obviously for the worst) but last I checked the club didn’t sponsor anything illegal. Kuros owning Q3A so hardcore should have been illegal but wasn’t.

Combining Metalcraft and Infect? That doesn’t sound very good. Stephen (not Buttons, different Stephen) and Zack have solid Infect decks and I have a Metalcraft deck.

Scars is interesting. Infect on it’s own is pretty powerful, and Metalcraft can be surprisingly resilient when built right. However, what I like most about the set is the abundance of powerful rares and uncommons with lots of potential, but are not very expensive (like Necrotic Ooze, Genesis Wave, Myr Galvanizer, Etched Champion, and Argentum Armor). Also, the intro packs for this set are the best intro packs for years.

You’ll complain about anything I post

Yep that’s me. All I do is complain about everything…

…except things that are actually thought out, make sense, and wouldn’t get the club execs thrown in jail. For example, the last 3 club presidents could be charged with misdemeanors (class 2 to be exact) for how they ran the raffles.

Sometimes when people think your idea is bad it’s not because they’re an *edited* or don’t like you, sometimes it really is a bad idea. Depending on how you approach an MTG tournament it could be considered gambling on state property which nets the entire exec staff (and you) misdemeanor charges, expulsion from WCU, and gets the gaming club banned from operating in the state of NC.

So yeah, want to run your proposal by us? Please…

    Chill. It’s under control.

Define “us” in the last sentence, because several executives have already heard the main gist of it.

Don’t start what? He brought it up and said I would frown on it. If I walk in your dorm room, say “you aren’t going to like this” and then poked you in the face with a stick I’m sure you’d react.

This is about Warhammer and D&D, let’s stay on topic please.

Is Dawn of War any good? I know Relic makes 100% epic games strategy games but never really got into DoW.

The commuter lounge is on the second floor of the UC right above Papa John’s. It’s usually inhabited from about 12 to 6 on weekdays. A lot of the people there also attend the weekly mini-LANs on Saturdays in Central Drive Hall.

The new lounge (whether it’s the change of crowd or the change of location) is a lot nicer smell-wise. And to your point on club activity, the lounge crowd shows up to the majority of the events, as opposed to the forums, where the majority of users aren’t even WCU students. For example, only 3 out of 9 of today’s top posters are WCU students.

From what I’ve heard, the next meeting is on the 3rd week of October in the UC.

Also, I know MasterP probably frowns at me saying this, but the Commuter’s Lounge in the second floor of the UC is a good place to find gamers. There’s a lot of gamers of all types who hang out in there, including console, PC, D+D, W40K, MTG, monster hunter, and larp fans. Several officers of the club also chill in there sometimes.

There’s several D+D groups around campus, come to our next meeting and ask around.

I’m getting into W40k, so once I get my army in order, I’ll play.

The Nexus (Sylva’s TCG store) said they could probably give sell us boxes at wholesale price ($75 for 36 packs (rough 2.1 a pack)) if we advertise for them at events. What we could do is buy a box at the beginning of a semester and hold $4 entry tournaments, and then put 1 pack into the prize pool for each person who enters. So, we’d break even after 19 entrants, possibly split over several tournaments. After all packs are given away for prizes, we’d have 69 dollars profit. If we went this route, I’d try to go for monthly tournaments separate from LANs.

I’m going to Brainstorm Entertainment (Franklin’s TCG store) tomorrow and going to discuss possible cooperation with them.

There’s also Quantum Games (Dillsoborough’s TCG store) that I could talk to, but they aren’t open for business yet.

On that note, until you can get more than 8 people I don’t think the club should be shelling out cash for advertising and prizes. Not that I don’t like the game (I used to love it) but until you can prove it’s profitable the club shouldn’t be spending cash on it. In the meantime, pick a room, print your own fliers for it, and have fun. On gameday just take up a pool and order some pizza. PCs did this for a freeplay LAN in one of the Belk labs and it was a lot of fun.

Lots of people said they would have participated in the MTG tournament if they knew it was going to happen. They just didn’t bring their decks because they didn’t know about it.

I suggest that we hold MTG as an official event during the next LAN and be sure to include it on our posters. 3 packs or an intro deck would be a sufficient prize.

I think holding it in a separate room at the same time as the LAN would be worse than having MTG at the LAN in the LAN room. Having them so far apart would mean it would be chaotic for people to get to their matches (vidya and mtg) without holding up everything. Also, space doesn’t seem to be a major issue at the moment, the new LAN layout is great.

In my opinion, we should go for one of these two options:

    1) Hold MTG at the LAN, in the room.

    Pros:

Wouldn’t cost any extra to the club apart from prize support due to shared venue and promotion.

    Potentially/probably higher LAN attendance.

    Cons:

Slows down both mtg and video game tournaments.

    Added space.

    2) Hold separate events at separate dates.

    Pros:

Tournaments would be faster and more focused.

    Cons:

Cost of running the tournament, like prizes, venue, promotion, etc.

I think the 8 person MTG freeplay is enough to warrant trying MTG out as a club sanctioned event. A lot of people at the LAN said they would have played in it, but they didn’t know there was going to be an MTG tournament (Although, I admit that I did get it together on a very short time frame.) However, next time, we would need to start the tournament ASAP if it was going to be held at the same time as a LAN. Advertising, whether it would have it’s own event or be at the LANs would also have to be considered. The tournament held by Josh Young the day after went extremely well, and we may want to consider getting his assistance on this project.

So, anyone else want to see if the club can expand to mtg?

I hate losing to Nebs in Melee and BBCS. Oh well, *edited* happens.

At least I won the MTG freeplay, though.

It was a very fun LAN overall.
