People need to become more accepting of one another, especially in somewhere like New York.Ideas like this make us no different than the “ridiculous Arab terrorists” that want us out of their country.
Hmm, I always felt like we were fairly open-minded in this area. I mean it’s not like there is an absence of hate crimes here, but I would think that the majority of us are tolerant of each other.
I’m planning on moving out of the tri-state area sometime in the summer and one of the things that I told my boyfriend I was going to miss was the diversity.
What I meant was that most people are so open-minded around here that the people who are not really need to catch on, especially since it is so diverse around here. =)
I just noticed something weird. It says in the quote that you quoted toranky, but I’m torankusu, lol. I’ve never changed my name on here before. Did you add that in yourself? xP If not, that’s strange.
Still wondering about this.
You can change the name of the person you’re quoting. See the posts I just quoted for an example.
obviously you have issues because you only talk to your self

so where was foxnews and the msm when a guy tried to blow up a mosque during service in florida?
but if a guy named Mohammad did the exact same thing to a church somewhere he’d be a terrorist right?
Considering that it’s common practice to build bombs in mosques (and schools) around the world I’d want just a little bit more to go on than AOLnews before drawing a conclusion. Statistically speaking on a global scale it’s more likely that a bomb they built themselves went off than it is for a fat, white, American in bluejeans and a dirty white t-shirt to sneak around unnoticed during a service.

Did you look at the map of where it’s going to be built? It’s pretty *edited* close.
its at least 3-4 buildings away. plenty to not even be seen when standing at GZ

Very poor example.
If an American extremist group bombed Mecca, how fast do you think Obama and leaders from literally every Christian sect would criticize the attack? They’d be fighting each other backstage for the right to go on the air next.
I would still not consider the leaders of this country to accurately represent me and would wish that people around the world would not blame me for an attack I had no say in. Today talking with anyone random, especially in Blacksburg, Connecticut, and Newport News, they consider Muslims and Hindus to all be terrorist when not even 0.001% are. Even if none of the Islamic leaders in the world condemned the attack I would still not blame the entire religious population for it like we have in America.
The example was not meant to be taken literally anyways. Consider it a parable illustrating a point:
Each person has a different view point and penalizing a massive portion of the world for the attacks based on an unbelievably small population is ridiculous.
I’m just speaking from what observations I’ve made where I’ve lived. There may be sources on the internet proving me wrong, but I never trust statistics.
Quote:
Considering New York City has a bad history of making Christians fight for the right to build or expand churches, is it really fair to let Muslims get an instant pass on the legal suits and public outcry?
Who said anything about a free pass? All I think is that they should have the same opportunity to build there as I am to build my church there. The fact a terrorist attack happened there should have no sway one way or another.

ParticipantI want to make the argument that Iron-fisted fathers tend to be a global phenomena rather than just with Asians, cept I don’t feel like rehashing stories of my childhood. I feel like I can tell a story of insane frugal behavior to disciplines involving the “peter-beater” that would display your guy’s fathers as well. (yes i called toranky a guy)
I may just be drawing some parallels between each experience while oblivious to the nuances but I guess I see things as universal rather than separate by a social construct.
MajorMajorMajor
ParticipantI mean its not like its even that close to GZ. If they were going to build ON the site, or in freedom tower I could understand the uproar, but zone probably permits only a few placed in Manhattan and they were lucky to get that site.
Secondly, i think its really retarded to expect the Imams or leaders to “represent” Islam as a whole when it comes to criticizing those who participated in the 9/11 attacks.
For example, say I didn’t vote for Obama, and therefore he does not represent me politically, so do I want other people to assume I think universal healthcare and abortions are awesome and should be allowed? No, I have my own individual opinions that I can express myself. Don’t expect the leaders to fully represent that population. Are those leaders going to be running that mosque? Doubtful. It’s probably an American Organization which means they have full rights to use that building as everyone else.
Denying rights to american citizens is wrong, even if it does “offend” other.

FYI since the government took over the student loan business it’s become alot harder to get one and it takes months to find out you’ve been turned down. Yes you read right, the poor with decent credit actually get turned down now once the quota has been reached. Sad IMO.
This has been the leading cause of my stomach ulcers for the past 4 years. Already massively in debt due to these loans and I still need to pay for another year. I’ve never missed a payment nor have I defaulted on anything besides loans. Still get a whopping 10.275% interest rate when I do get accepted.
Gotta love that.
I have a difficult time distinguishing between stress and depression. I feel the two should be separate because they elicit two different biological responses but they tend to go hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly. They also make a positive feedback loop which sucks.

Also, I hope Major isn’t including psychologists with psychiatrists (one can prescribe drugs & the other can’t)
I tend to lump both together in a general abhorrence due to the fact Ive been to both kinds and neither were distinguishably better than the other. Both seemed only to care about my money and time and not me.
They may differ in intelligence, one being medical the other theoretics, but working things through with your friends and spending time contemplating and working through issues individually have worked for me and I feel was generally successful.
I don’t think I mentioned the use of alcohol but I would agree, drinking a depressant is not a good way to deal with issues.
You need to spend time in contemplation if you want to feel better about yourself. Having people who only know you through a 1 hour session a week tell you that X, Y, and Z are wrong with your life will not help you. You already know that you feel wrong, and you only need to understand why it feels wrong and what you can do to feel better. Discussing it with friends and family will help you think better and lead you on paths you normally would not consider, but a lot relies on you to sort through your feelings, and slowly understand why you feel the way you do.

about halfway through he stopped and called my dad in and said there was nothing he could do for me and recommended I go back to the emergency room and possibly be emitted to an institution LOL.
LOL
No friggin way.
Few things lead to me think he is a quack. 1) His main priority would have been to schedule multiple sessions no matter your condition. Every psych does this, they need “repeat” costumers just to make a living. They also need multiple sessions to truly figure you out. You could be the devil and be completely insane, and most psychs would want you to come back if not to try to help. 2) While it may or may not have been true, a psych like that is in no position to tell you to get committed. Especially after one session? How the hell would he even know you?
I would before you do anything (ie. antidepressants or whatnot) find a second psych and see what they think. Like “de nudes” said, a good psych can help a lot. A bad one can make things worse.
PS. I tend to have a highly negative look on psychs. I’ve only been to one or two that actually seemed to care and didn’t just seem interested in my wallet. Might just be Connecticut for you.

ParticipantI am all for supporting the rights of the individual. I believe that the right to do what we want should not be overridden unless it harms another. If this couple was not going to conceive a child then I would support them. It may not be the norm, but they deserve to do what they want. The fact a child could be brought into an unstable/shortened marriage where it could hinder that child’s development makes me want to limit that relationship.
They have the right to be together, but they should not be allowed to harm a child like that.
Until they can prove to me that the relationship will not harm the development of the child they should be barred from conception.

I misspoke though, I was just despised by the popular kids of my class, other than that I was well-known throughout the school, I mean I was drum captain, and this was during the time that Drumline was a big deal. wait… am i the only one that posts here that wasnt an outcast in middle/high school?
I was mr. outcast in middle school, only cause I moved and it was difficult to make friends. By Highschool i was solid… there weren’t any “outcasts” really in my school. It was a blended mesh of people and wackos that was really interesting.
inb4 “oh just because you dont think there were outcasts doesnt mean they werent any”. I was friends with every person in my graduating class (gfg small school) and I can say there were no people who would fall into the “outcast” situation.
WAIT. I TAKE THAT BACK. Brian Drury. That kid was a white supremacist with a swastika shaved in the back of his head in a predominately Haitian/Puerto Rican/Jamaican high school. he never made any real friends i feel like.
guess that voids my argument further supporting the “inb4” claim
