I have my share of experience with larger events than this, so know exactly how hard it is to put something like this together- we are just throwing ideas out and hoping one of them will be useful.

Careful how you word that sort of comment or you could scare off the people who are giving the suggestions that were asked for.

Another thought- “Team name” seems fairly unnecessary- it only adds some confusion in the way of “Ok next up is Team A vs Team B” but who the hell are those people? In substitute of team name, just call each team “PlayerA/PlayerB.”

In registration, you would either supply the Handle of your teammate or check that you need a teammate.

    Here’s another idea I had.

I’ll make one with “Cheater free society” but any ideas on a theme to the shirt? I need a graphic of some sort to tie it together.

Hells yeah! Got my email this morning as well :D

Good thing, ’cause I really wasn’t gonna by Crackdown just for the Beta test. That would make me a tool. Hella lame.

Still trying to get a team together for this? I’m really interested in it, plus I have friends at UNCC we could stay with to save on hotel costs- I just don’t know if I’m good enough to contribute to a team on the MLG level.

Also, I think I bumped into you on matchmaking this afternoon- sent you a friend request.

I see no reason why anyone would object to that

No problem akuzan, it was my bad as well.

In all seriousness though, everyone needs to be begged about bringing consoles/tv’s. Hell, I would personally help transport and watch over some equipment if it would help.

Also, something would need to be done to ensure we don’t have that system link trouble we had, but I dunno what- that’s not really my area of expertise.

My last name is spelled wrong :P (Dale Koch – JazzmanSA80)

Figured it should be right, since its, ya know, official.

Akuzan, I didn’t mean any offense about the “better planned” remark. Perhaps the better way to word it is that maybe it needs to be more voiced how in need we are of consoles at these events. I, for one, never considered it might be an issue and scrolled right past that part of the registration form…my bad :(

I’m sure more than 4 consoles and TVs could be rounded up if people were harassed about it enough :P

Maybe think about a different tournament format if we’d be running fewer tournies at an event. Some way so that even if you aren’t good, you can stay in the competition for a little while, versus Round 1- you sucked. Next please.

Also I don’t see why console tournies couldn’t run all day, back to back, just like the PC games. I made the point already in another thread, but that gives everyone an opportunity to either compete all day on either platform, or go back and forth.

I know it’s not about the competition, but let’s face it- competing is more fun than free play, even if it is just a friendly tourny.

For instance, you could run CS:S, Quake 4, DOD:S, and Unreal 2k4 all day back to back like gxti suggested, meanwhile a Halo 2 tournament is running during the PC tournies, and then Gears of War run in the other half of the day during PC tournaments. The rest of the time, the consoles can be free play or you can add in another game as well.

More specifically, a schedule could look a little like this:

    2:00-4:00 CS:S//Free play

    4:30-6:30 Quake 4//Halo2

    6:30-7:30 Dinner Break – 1 hour

    7:30-9:30 DOD:S //Gears of War

10:00-12:00 Unreal 2K4//Other console tourny or free play

    Just a thought…

Well what do we want to see? I’m not terribly skilled in photoshop, plus I’m sort of a minimalist with these types of things. Also, simple shirts are cheaper haha.

I’ll try to make up a couple more simple-ish kind of designs. If anyone wants to try as well, the blank shirt template is really easy to find on Google image search.

    Stay tuned.

Would it not make sense to run console tournies the whole day along side pc tournies? Most gamers are primarily, if not exclusively, one or the other.

I’m sure there were more people who would have and could have brought consoles had there been better communication about it. I, for one, could have brought at least my 360, and a TV if need be. I wasn’t aware we were in need of more consoles though- it seemed like it was a “bring em if you got em” situation instead of confirming that Person A, B, and C were definitely bringing 360s.

As far as people not wanted to lug all that stuff down, would it be so hard to get 4-8 people to bring consoles and 4-8 other people to bring TVs? It just needs to be better planned ahead of time, and confirmed who is bringing what to guarantee that we had the hardware we need.

    Starcraft=greatest RTS ever made.

Homeworld, Command and Conquer, and Age of Empires are really good too. Right now I’m pretty into C&C Generals: Zero Hour. I’m also interested to see how Halo Wars turns out. RTS has always been my favorite genre, but I’ve never really liked console RTS much, so we’ll see.

I know what you mean, man. I have been battling lag on Halo 2 since I got here, and it’s really ruined the game for me. I came back a little early after winter break when few people were here, and the lag was substantially less, but as soon as people started returning, the lag did too. I think the network here really just can’t handle gaming.

It isn’t just Xbox either. Connect to BF2 and check your ping- it might just be me but I’ve seen it be over 1000. You don’t notice the lag as much on GOW because the game is a little more forgiving then Halo 2, but if you suspect lag, aim a shotgun at the ground and watch how long it takes for the shot to hit. 1-2 seconds is not normal haha.

Also, different residences seem to be better or worse. I lived in Lwood earlier this year and XBL almost made me pull out my hair or Gears OR on Halo. I’m in Norton now, and while Gears is a lot more enjoyable, I still shy away from Halo as it is often still pretty laggy. Ping will be green, then you get killed, yell lag, and then see it in the yellow or red where it stays for a while, only to return to green, giving you false hope. Repeat.

In summary: don’t bother with XBL unless… well unless you like lag.

Yeah but they definitely make you pay for it. I’d rather build my own PC any day- get similar results for 1/4 the cost or less. The only thing I might consider in the way of Macs is building a hackintosh, or getting a Macbook were I to get a new laptop.

Same here, I have a GeForce 7600- runs CSS at at least 150 fps on highest settings with Limewire, iTunes, Firefox, Thunderbird, Photoshop, and AIM running in the background. What CPU do you have?
