ParticipantIt looks really sharp and professional. To be honest, I’m not exactly crazy about all the brown, but the presence of the Demoman and Ellis more than makes up for it. Sometime in the future, it might be worthwhile to add some console characters to the other side (Master Chief and Mario, for instance).

ParticipantI kinda thought it was assumed that all forums had a private administrative section. I’m surprised WCUGA doesn’t have one.
Ephraim
ParticipantWell, that was my attempt at negotiating. Switching to battle mode.

Look, like Ive said, Im not talking on these forums. I would prefer to do this in person. Ill lay out what we want out of this and see what happens (and by we I mean everyone that left). Until then, wait until the start of school and like I said, Ill talk to Freezer and Geese about what we needs hammering out on this issue. Thanks.
We gave you the opportunity to state your case and negotiate with us, yet you refuse to do so until just before the first meeting. What the hell, man?
Ephraim
ParticipantIt would be nice to have more than one WCUGA rep in this thread.

Participant1. That compromise is not going to happen. It’s way too much to ask. We’re willing to compromise, but not that much.
2. A new list of members does need to be written pretty fast, but I don’t think every person who attended a LAN or meeting last semester should automatically get membership status. establishing that list is going to be far more complicated.
3. You were at the ratification meeting and didn’t raise any concerns.
Ephraim
ParticipantWe’ve already established what it takes to have voting and executive rights in the new constitution. It’s only students.

ParticipantStudents who will talk:

Facsist Flakes

Tallgeese
We’re extending an olive branch here. Let’s talk.

ParticipantI posted this at the end of the Facebook coversation:
Quote:
1. There is no longer a webmaster. The forums are now under the authority of the PCVP. True, Liam is still helping us out, but he is subordinate to the PCVP and has no voting privileges. Anything he does must meet the approval of the PCVP, who must be a student.
2. Admittedly, the process by which you were removed from office was fuzzy. … See MoreHowever, no constitutional changes had been ratified in years. For all intents and purposes, the club had no working constitution. You were informed by SGA that a new constitution had to written up soon. It was your responsibility. However, you decided it wasn’t a priority. That is why we only had one substantive revision meeting in two semesters. You were removed because there was a general consensus among the executives that you weren’t doing your job effectively. Once you were gone, the new constitution was written and ratified in a matter of weeks.
3. The reason there were so many exec meetings was because things weren’t getting done. For example: the constitution. Also, the reason Mitch had more of a say in matters last semester was because the Alumni Advisor was still an official position at that point. The position no longer exists. Mitch helped craft a constitution which he knew would strip him of authority.
4. There is no such rule. It’s just that the forums serve as the clubs main organizational tool, so it’s a good way of testing the popularity of opinions.
5. That just isn’t practical. Why, in order to view the info on your site, one has to register. Adam tried this and got banned.
The fact is, WCU already has a long-standing gaming club which has held multiple successful events and a newly ratified, fully functional constitution. Aside from pure spite, there is no reason for there to be a second.
Kaz, I really think that everyone involved with this would benefit from taking part in this thread: (Link to this page)

ParticipantThey have an identical culture and no international power! Hahahah!

ParticipantSpiffy.

ParticipantRight now, a flier advertising the first meeting is more valuable than a general flier, though both would be nice.

ParticipantI’ve been thinking about something: This might sound strange coming from me, but if neither Freezer or Tallgeese want to run for president, there is part of me that is considering running for president. Admitedly, I’d need a lot of advising and if it screws up some plans I won’t do it, but it’s on my mind. If nobody else wants it, I’m willing to give it a go.

OK, that is what I thought, and I understand. Not debating with you, just wanted to know why out of curiosity, I do find that most people that don’t like the story-telling of Hideo Kojima tend to complain about the cut-scenes versus the game play and the over all story.
I get the connections made and the story in general, so to me it makes sense, but yeah like you said, you either love it or hate it and I respect your opinion of the latter. At least you gave it a try.
For what it’s worth, I do like individual parts of the games. For example, the ending of MGS3 was really good. Also, the gameplay itself is pretty fun and there is a good sense of atmosphere troughout the series. Really , it’s more that I don’t like the general storyline and ther way it’s told.

We need to realize that Kaz-ka and the people that left with him are students, who we are catering to. We need to try to work together, not drive a deeper wedge through the student population.
Yes and no.
It would please me greatly if the students who left the club would return, BUT there are very serious limits as to what we should do to get them back. One of the big reasons for the craziness that went down last semester was that a segment within the club formed into a clique (which Kaz-Ka was apart of) and started desiring greater influence over the club. The clique did what it wanted to do and what it didn’t care about became low priorities for the club as a whole. That is why we went from one or two fighting games to four or five. That is why the servers collected dust. That is why Kaz-Ka and company conspired against the alumni at mini-LANs. That is why there was no signfigant work on the constitution for a semester-and-a-half. When they didn’t get their way, they acted like spoiled children, broke university law, and *edited*ed off both SGA and ITS.
Yeah, we should try to get them back, but I don’t think we need to give into any demands. So far, the only demands they have listed have been so vague and baseless (“The alumni are pulling the strings behind the scenes! Kick them out!”) that we can’t take them seriously. Next semester, I imagine their new club will fall apart and they will want to come back here. When that happens, we will welcome them with open arms, but change nothing. We have a new, fully-functional constitution and populated servers. For the first time in ages, we are at least a little bit on SGA’s good side. The only thing this club needs to be great again is more members.

ParticipantI *edited*ing knew this was going to become a flame war. We’re not covering any new ground here.

ParticipantI really don’t want to get into this debate again. It just keeps popping up! The story of MGS is something you either love or hate, and nothing can really change that. If you absolutely must know, I find the plot itself very convoluted and over-complicated (nobody cares what triple-S stands for) which makes the overall anti-war/make your own destiny message hard to swallow. As for storytelling techniques, the plot-development and player-controlled sections of the game seem so seperate, that it feels like the two are competing for the player’s attention. This is not the mark of good game design. I’m not opposed to story in games, but the plot should be seemlessly woven into the gameplay, not forced down the player’s throat in ten-minutes cutscenes. What’s more, the dialouge is just too melodramatic. I consider the Naomi Hunter monolouges from the ending of Twin Snakes (at least the one I got) to be one of the most poorly-written pieces of dialouge I have ever heard in a game. I just find the whole series piercingly over-rated. After Portable Ops, I stopped playing.
Admitedly, the Rising trailer looked pretty cool, but I have such little interestin the story that I might not get it.
Ephraim
ParticipantIf you ran for Console VP, you would more than likely win.
