ParticipantIf I had to pick I’d have to say the philosophy that I most agree with is the one used for competitive pokemon. There’s actually a couple things in competitive pokemon that can land a pokemon in the Uber category (which for the comparison is the same as being banned). When a pokemon is used very frequently and appears on almost every team, red flags are definitely thrown up. The same is true of fighting game characters. High usage, especially in tournaments, leads to some suspicion. However this alone is no basis for a ban, simply a likely indicator.
At this point you have to figure out if the character fits into one of two categories. The first category is the “unfair” category. Generally, characters don’t fall into this category. Going back to the pokemon example, a pokemon that was banned for this reason was Wobbuffett. Wobbuffett is a guaranteed kill, and a high possibility for a double kill. The equivalent to that in a fighting game would be a character that had an unblockable, unavoidable, invincible, instant kill move that could be performed regardless of any gauge or resource. In other words, a guaranteed kill. As far as I know, there’s no fighting game with such a character.
The second, more common reason for a ban is limited counter measures. Once again pulling the pokemon analogy, the likes of Mewtwo and some other legendaries are banned for this reason. There are only a handfull of pokemon that can stat-wise compete with such pokemon (and most of those pokemon are the legendaries themselves), and therefore when making a team you either include such counter measures or resign yourself to lose against such pokemon. The equivalent of this in a fighter would be a character that cannot be successfully defeated, regardless of player skill, unless certain “counter-measure” characters are picked. Characters like this do exist, but are few and far between.
In short, there’s not many situations in which a character should be banned.

ParticipantSo pretty much all you commuter lounge kids got treated to the same *edited* you put other people through, sweet. I think the guy that won BlazBlue and Brawl should be promoted to Console Pres.
No one cares that he won, hell Trevor was up 2-0 on him in Brawl and forfeit because he wanted to go with us to get pizza with us. What we care about is that he’s a grade-A douchebag. Granted that can be said about a whole lot of us, myself included, but this guy did it like it was his *edited* job. I think he rubbed a lot of people at the LAN the wrong way.
As for you wanting him to be your Console Pres., have fun at App.

ParticipantWhy’s everyone here so quick to start an argument? Even I could tell Moose was being sarcastic about the L4D thing.
And yes, the BlazBlue winner did nothing but *edited* all day about how the game wasn’t on the 360 and how he was *edited*ing up all his combos because he wasn’t used to the controller, despite him killing people with 2-3 combos usually. He even *edited*ed about his combos *edited*ing up after taking someone out with 1 combo! So, yeah, total douchebag.

ParticipantYou might want to add me to the attendance, Ephraim. I never got to sign the sheet with the boxes on it, since they started that after I showed up.
Also, all of us got robbed by that guy in BlazBlue.

ParticipantAll you’d get from 4chan is “not your personal army”, that is unless you could convince them Moose is a scientologist or a 13 year old girl who’s will to provide pics.
I’d suggest ignoring the people trying to get a rise out of you, otherwise you’re just giving them what they want.

ParticipantSo, anything noteworthy about the set other than Angels vs. Vampires and land coming into play?

ParticipantYeah, if they hold their LAN on the same day as ours, we’ll all get screwed over.

ParticipantSoul Calibur 4:
> Matches will be in the standard 3 out of 5 rounds. Preliminary through semi-final match-ups will be decided by 2 out of 3 matches. Finals will be 3 out of 5 matches. Time limit per round will be 60 seconds.
> Custom, Bonus, and Auto-custom characters are banned. Certain combinations can cause messed up hitboxes, so they’re not going to be allowed. Custom costumes for regular characters are fine, but you will not be given any tournament time to create one, so you simply have to pick from the ones on whoever’s console you’re on.
> First match stage is always random, and after that the order goes:
– Loser picks stage
– Winner may pick different character
– Loser may pick different character
Anyone caught intentionally changing their character after their allotted time will be warned. On a second offense, they will be disqualified. If both players agree, either the stage picking or character picking step can be skipped, or both may be skipped.
BlazBlue:
> Matches will be in the standard 3 out of 5 rounds. Preliminary through semi-final match-ups will be decided by 2 out of 3 matches. Finals will be 3 out of 5 matches. Time limit per round will be 99 seconds.
> No banned characters. It’s been suggested to me that V-13 be banned, however I don’t believe it’s necessary. If enough people ask me to, however, I may reconsider.
> Stage is always auto. From the second round forward the order goes:
– Winner may pick different character
– Loser may pick different character
Anyone caught intentionally changing their character after their allotted time will be warned. On a second offense, they will be disqualified. If both players agree, they may forgo reselecting characters and rematch.
Another rule I’m going to implement concerns controllers and applies to both games. If at any time a player feels the controller they’re using isn’t working properly, they may notify either myself, or any other exec, who will then provide them with another controller. However, any rounds or matches that have been played will stand, and will not be replayed. This is to prevent someone from using this when they’re about to lose so they can get a second chance. Therefore, it is in the player’s best interest to notify someone of it ASAP.
If anyone has any comments, concerns, or questions feel free to post them here. If you feel I missed something or left something out please let me know and I’ll do my best to a address it.

ParticipantAside from a stupid joke that everyone took way too seriously, I don’t see anything you’re doing wrong.
But, you know, I’m with you a lot of the time when you’re going stuff for the club. So I actually know first hand what you’re doing, rather than hearing a distorted version of it later.
You still worry too much, though.
