ParticipantI think it would be too much responsibility on my part so, i’ll pass, i’m satisfied with my current position (here’s hoping I get ReElected)

ParticipantThe pics below are who i voted for
if i was in ukraine, thought i am 1/4 ukrainian, still doesn’t equate citizenship
i like obama, i like his hope and energy, i don’t exactly like all his policies, i was kinda of a kuicinch fan, but i’m kinda all over the political map and am pretty flexible about my views.
i’m running for WCU greatest fan, or WCU’s CS:S Hugger and Team Morale Booster, maybe TMP *edited*? who knows, i should all the votes as i made everything up.

ParticipantI am willing to respect the office of the president in that I accept that Obama will have the authority of the executive branch. However, Obama’s short track record gives me reason enough to be pessimistic about his coming presidency. Further, after a year-and-a-half of hearing him not answer questions, I can’t just flip a switch on my back and start singing his praises.
Oh, and I’d like to be Secretary again. It’s a lot of fun, although It’s annoying how my threads keep getting locked.

ParticipantSupporting him as president is being patriotic, that doesn’t mean you have to like him as a person.
November 6, 2008 at 4:13 pm #62203Ephraim
ParticipantI’m not a fan of political arguments on the forums, so I think this will be my last comment on the subject.
I don’t like Obama as a person, but that is not why I am pessimistic about what he’ll do as president. My pessimism is based on his policies, which range from abstract to silly to ghoulish.
November 6, 2008 at 4:50 pm #62208Bitey
ParticipantI am not arguing with you I am however curious how you think his policies are abstract to silly to ghoulish? I know many disagree but being in the position my family is in right now his tax plan is amazing.

Participantbetter not hear you whining about the president then.
It may be a little late, but i agree with some earlier posts about Obama’s race. Did people not know he was Black before he won?! Yea, we get it! He’s a different race. At the expense of perhaps sounding a bit racist myself, i’d like to make a point. The fact that Obama is black should NOT be a reason to vote for him. Black people go on and on about how white people treat them differently just because of their skin color, and then they go and support a presidential candidate why? BECAUSE HE’S BLACK?! My God, does anyone see something wrong with that? But no, when something benefits them, it’s protecting their heritage. That’s no reason to vote for someone. People should be voting on issues and how someone will run the country. Now, I suppose it’s easy to sit here in my all white neighborhood where I’ve grown up all my life with little experience among black people and say that, but it still seems a bit wrong to me. Idk. Perhaps I’ve just made myself look racist to all of you, but I guess that’s my opinion.
As for Obama himself, everyone seems to be singing his praise, but why? What on earth has he done to prove that he would be a good leader? He’s had two years of Senate experience (b/c we all know that those 2 other years campaigning did nothing for his experience). The only thing he’s done to prove himself is get the title of president elect. Now, I’m not saying he won’t do a good job. Hopefully he’ll do a fantastic job, but I don’t think everyone should be lauding him quite yet.
Just my opinion.

Supporting him as president is being patrioticAnd according to the new president, paying taxes is also “patriotic”. I will never be supportive of anyone who runs his campaign on the promise of jacking up every “rich persons” taxes and giving it to people who already don’t pay taxes to begin with. I don’t want my wealth “spread around”, I want the fruits of my labor to be mine regardless of whether I make $20,000 or $200,000.
Oh btw, the Obama definition of “rich” is now $150,000. It managed to drop 40% in a month. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have already held votes on bills that would raise taxes on *households* making $42,000 and up. Obama voted in “yes” to that tax increase. So if you compare his campaign rhetoric with how he’s actually voted, we’re all “rich” after we graduate and all our taxes will go up. Somehow the 5% no one thought they were apart of magically turns in to the 95% no one can find their way out of.
For you socialists out there, answer me this. If I earn minimum wage because I dropped out of high school and never made anything of myself, how does that entitle me to a portion of someone else’s income for the rest of my life?

ParticipantAmen MasterP.
What amazes me is when certain politicians think they have the right to someone’s money, just because they have more of it than someone else does. (Actually it doesn’t really amaze me. Politicians are honestly filthy creatures.) Its class warfare plain and simple, steal from the rich and give to the poor and the poor will vote for you just to keep the goodies coming. The sick part is that the definition of rich keeps falling and falling. (This sort of makes me happy because the caring liberals of CA will get the hell taxed out of them because they make more than the rest of us do on average.) I mean $120,000 a year isn’t really that much money. #5 and I will be making at least that much straight out of school. It galls me to no end that some people who were either too lazy or incompetent to go to school and make good choices will somehow steal some of my money. I made my good choices, I studied hard, I worked, I saved to get to and through college and the government wants to penalize me for my success. Make no mistake, this isn’t just some good fortune that fell into my lap, there is not a day that goes by that I don’t get up and work my *edited* off to get ahead. People who work hard and don’t give up see success; those that don’t, fail and apparently are allowed to leech off of the rest of us. It’s not that the majority of the poor are somehow less lucky in life, its that they make poor decisions and take the quick and easy road. Do they ever stop and reflect how they got there? I don’t know, but they might find out how to be successful if they were cut off of the government teat. Work as a requirement of welfare all the way, and limited time on welfare as well. The only way to break the cycle of poverty is some tough love.

Participanti was mostly against most of obamas policies and i just wonder this.
what if people start sayin “well if i do less and earn under 250k then i’ll have less taxes, why bother trying hard.” then no one will have over 250k. what happens then? it goes down to 150k? and if it happens again then what? people who make over 100k? eventually people will be making nothing, and then who will those people leech off of?
nothing in this world comes free obama. learn it and don’t make promises you can’t fulfil
November 7, 2008 at 2:13 am #62291YouWinGameOver
Participanti think the problem you guys are having is that the people who need the money who “leech” or are “lazy” is only a small number of people, in fact its around 8-9% granted that is a lot of money and I agree with you that the money i make should be mine. That being said plenty of other numbers are misrepresented as well such as welfare. 85%(rough number) are white, single parents, that have 1.2 children. You can’t *edited* on someone who hasn’t even been sworn in yet.
And I am not a *edited*ing socialist where did this propaganda come from that all Obama supporters are bleeding heart liberals or commie socialists?
My roomie is a commie and he voted Obama because he realizes how much of a (insert insult )Palin is. I can not find anything good to say about Palin what so ever. Can we all at least agree on this?

ParticipantNationally, the exit poll interviews indicated that:
* 61 percent of Obama’s votes came from white voters; 90 percent of McCain’s came from white voters.
* 23 percent of Obama’s votes came from black voters; only one percent of McCain’s came from African American voters.
* Latino voters accounted for 11 percent of Obama’s vote and six percent of McCain’s.

ParticipantI don’t know about all this socialist BS either, a lot of people confuse socialism with communism, yes some ideals are similar but the ultimate goal is completely different. Everyone is like I make money I should keep it, well good for you that is a very conservative and republican view point, I agree that you should keep your money, I don’t see why you *edited* about paying a little more on your taxes to help out the people on the bottom, how dare you assume that they are “lazy” or “don’t care”, you don’t know that and you don’t live their life, I doubt you would survive one day in a persons shoes like that. What are you going to do with your millions of dollars, stock pile it and save it up? For what, to what point and purpose? Your going to die some day so then what? Best policy I can think of, save money for yourself and your children so they aren’t left in the cold, the rest, instead of spending it on 6-7 houses and then 9 or 10 cars, what is so wrong with “spreading” that around. You can look at it as charity, or whatever floats your boat, but something we all need to realize is we all live on this planet together, and we all have an impact on what happens to it, so you choose….
Help the people that clean up your *edited*, that throw away your trash, that clean the streets, that fix your McDy’s burger, that take care of your children, keep crime off our streets, put out fires, and all the other minimum wage jobs.
Or hoard all your money for yourself.
Your choice.

ParticipantI have no objection to helping out those in need. My problem is there are a lot of lazy people out there and amazingly more/better welfare programs usually means more people trying to leech money off the government. Susan has been working over at a doctor’s office in Cashiers and said its ridiculous how many people try to draw disability when they aren’t even trying to do anything to get better. She said of the dozens of people she has seen, only 2 or 3 actually deserve the money they are getting.
I don’t want to take away anything from anybody that actually NEEDS the government to step in and help them out, but at the same time those people that just want freebies (aka leechers) ruin it for everybody. And yes, I take offense to being called greedy for not wanting to give my money away to leechers.
Also, I plan to have 1 house, probably 2 cars, and whatever amenities I can afford, plus I would actually like to have money for retirement (I don’t think social security counts but that is for another discussion). And I will give money to a charity that I actually support.

ParticipantGood points, of course your not greedy for giving to leechers, but then again do you or Susan really know about that person? We can’t possibly claim to know what they have been through, that is why I try not to judge people on that. To me whether they are “leeching” or not is beyond the point, maybe that help is what they need to get them off their feet, a little incentive to say you can do it, here, this will help with stressing out over every day, worrying about that next months rent. I am not a “hippy” by any means of the word but I would definitely think that this world would be a better place if we stopped worrying about “me, me, me” and help out other people, I mean certainly get your own affairs in order and don’t let worrying about these “leechers” be your priority, make sure your ready for what may come and with what you have left do something with it instead of letting it sit there. I mean these are just my opinions and kind of shape the way I live my life, by no means does anyone have to listen I just felt it was my time to give my input.

The problem with your idealism is that a socialist government doesn’t give you the opportunity to save for yourself before taking it all away. Under Obama’s plan, I can come out of college with thousands of dollars in loans but because I make a certain amount of money I am somehow undeserving of the right to choose to pay those off before being “patriotic” with my paycheck. I will have to give 30-40% in taxes under Obama’s plan, that’s money I WANT to save for a SINGLE house, a SINGLE car, for children’s future, etc but won’t have the *RIGHT* to because I make “enough to share”. You can’t sit there and tell me you believe that’s fair. As it stands now, over 30% of Americans don’t pay any federal income taxes, why should I have to pay extra so they can get a check in the mail? You can call it charity all you want, that doesn’t make it right. If I give to charity (which I do already) that should be my choice, not something the government takes automatically from my check and gives to groups of people where probably 90% are less deserving than those I would have given the extra to anyway. Would you rather give money to government “charity” where you know it will be leeched or donate directly to a local fire department where you know it will be spent 100% deservingly?
Btw, I don’t have any problems with or begrudge those who try to earn an honest living at minimum wage. I have always been nice and kind to those who do the work I was raised to not have to do. I’ll be the first to tell you I am fortunate that I have parents that pushed me and made me work hard in school. What I have a problem with and you can’t argue against is the nearlt 50% of my high school graduating class that didn’t even try to make something of themselves. They are earning minimum wage BY CHOICE. Community college is practicly free at that point in life and they chose instead to do nothing with themselves, hell 25% the high school freshmen I started with didn’t make it to graduation. You can’t say it’s not hard to feel sorry for someone who cleans toilets all day because they failed out of highschool, especially since it’s now virtually impossible if you actually care.
As for hoarding money, what’s wrong with that? Fat cats in Washington do it. All these politicians who want to raise our taxes do it. Obama had over $600 million in donations and you know it didn’t all get spent. If the new president is allowed to hoard, why can’t we? It’s not as evil or elitest as you think. You’ll understand when you get a retirement account started and struggle to make enough to fund it because your summer internship was taxed at 27%. I don’t consider my “hoarded money” aka my two IRAs as a bad thing. There’s nothing wrong with preparing for your future, Social Security was never designed to be income replacement for retirees but the unprepared, “poor people” who spent their money instead of saving it don’t deserve any of my money. That’s 100% not fair.
And I can tell you don’t really have a retirement plan because the only way the money increases over time is if you let it sit there. The money I have put in my IRAs will be there until I’m 69.5, that’s a choice I make. I choose to let it sit there and earn interest and dividends instead of spending it on a new TV or computer parts. The last time I took food to the homeless shelter for NHS about 75% of the people there had cell phones, and most of them weren’t the freebie ones like I use. WTF? You can’t defend that.
