Clearing the playing field was a smart move. I would have done the exact same thing. Also, have you ever considered that people might fake signatures or not get them through appropriate means?Had they been fake I would agree with that but the vast majority were legitimate signatures that just weren’t cursive enough to the examiners or weren’t obtained through a licensed party official. I don’t know if you’ve ever signed a nomination petition but they are very rarely passed around by officially licensed people, at least not on the Rebublican side. I just don’t get how people believe he’s above old political tricks and games when that’s how his career started.

He ran one of the best campaigns ever. His organizational skills are amazing, his ability to communicate is extremely effective, and the ideas himself or his aides come up with are actually good.If McCain had been allowed to raise and spend as much money as Obama did I imagine his campaign would have been just as good. Obama cleared the playing field again when he lied about his intention to take public financing and the opt out after McCain accepted it. I’m sure you’re going to say that it was smart but he’s the first major candidate since the public financing system was created to opt out, from either party. Now we can expect both parties to completely ignore the public system in favor of not being tied down by spending limitations, good going, you just made every election in the future twice the spending fest it already was.

The last thing we needed was for McCain to get sick or die and have Palin run the country. From the thousand or so pages of medical information McCain disclosed, he was in great health. We knew much more about his health than we did Obama’s.

I tried to like Bush and didn’t have a negative opinion until he made about 20 mistakes in a row.I really hate to defend Bush but as time goes on it’s actually getting easier. It’s been really easy since they actually found WMD’s in Iraq and publicly sold off the stash of Uranium they captured from Saddam’s nuclear program that “didn’t exist”. Which mistakes in particular were you referring to because I’m sure in the next few years any of them that were major talking points will be proven wrong.

ParticipantOn a seperate note:
Please don’t take this as racist because it’s not meant to be offense, I’m just curious if anyone else noticed or cared but I find it ironic how much talk I’ve heard lately about how America “transcended” race in this election yet 96% of black Americans voted for Obama. That isn’t transcending race by any stretch of the imagination because you know if 96% of white Americans voted for McCain it would have been a “racist” election and if Hillary had been running and 96% of men voted for McCain we would have been sexist. Granted black Americans have always voted for Democrats in high numbers but never more than 90%. I mean 96% is a very high number, high enough to make any independent thinker question whether or not his ideals really mattered to some voters.
Just something I felt was interesting.

ParticipantI honestly hate how its been portrayed as a race election. Just like if Hillary ran against McCain it would have been an all out sexist race. Yes he is the first black president. Thats awesome. It’s not really as historical as people want it to be. Call me when we elect a Native American president. that will be epic.
November 6, 2008 at 9:37 am #62120Ephraim
Participantthe “historic” angel of the election does not go very far with me. Who cares if Obama is the first black president if he is unqualified? If Obama’s race is unimportant, then there is no need to celebrate it.

Participantif anyone listened to howard stern i believe did it, he had people call in about obama and he asked if they liked OBAMAS pick of palin as a vp and they said yea they think its a great choice. he also put mccains policies under obama and asked people what they thought about them. that just shows how racist this election really was. people voted for obama because he is black not because of his policies.
PS. i am NOT racist and did NOT like either candidates. i actually told someone that i didn’t like obama or mccain. they asked if it was “because obama is black”. i replied “yes and because mccain is white”

ParticipantMy take on this is, instead of *edited*ing about who is president elect now, I am hopeful that his plans for this country will be successful and help this country a great deal. It is not blind following it is called patriotism to believe that the man elected to run this country will do a great job and to believe in him instead of be negative about the chance he is given, wait for him to screw something up then *edited* all you want, but until then I am hopeful and I believe in the chance he has been given to do something great.
