Spectator“I have been the one to yell at you constantly for camping spawn in D2 because I have been sick of it. Leave spawn.”
I don’t know which admin you are, and I assume you’re talking about T-Spawn, but I don’t usually camp spawn. The most common reasons are I’m on the phone, I’m typing to someone in game, or we’re getting owned and pushed so hard that it really shouldn’t matter. Not to mention that almost all times that I ‘camp’ spawn, I am able to pick off people who try to rush spawn to flank. Either way, I’m almost NEVER in spawn as the clock is closing in to zero. Implying that I am some perpetual spawn camper, at least to me, seems very off base.

SpectatorHaha wow, i thought adam37 was adambomb… lol my bad. yeah adam37 uploaded it.
oh yeah, dank you do throw it up there ty. only you, sticky, tiggle, and poopie will do that. i think there are like 10-15 other active admins and none of them will do it, despite throwing up god awful votes for scoutzknivez, vertigo, deagle etc =(
xenocide
SpectatorI haven’t been playing at WCU for the longest time (I was preoccupied with the sub par servers of nc state for far too long =P), but of all the active and regular lower level admins I’ve encountered, d2.sticky (and tiggle) are by far the best well mannered, fair, and fun to play with. I wasn’t on when all of this happened, but the person posting the complaint strikes me as very immature. Not to mention sticky is probably the very BEST admin at calling out crouch running (some other admins don’t say anything).
To address Master P’s complaints: I have seen lots of admin prompted map votes when the server was well over 10+ people and I’ve encountered lots of admins that have acted like douchebags in the server, and sticky has never been one. There are always going to be inconsistencies in a setting like this – I’ve been slayed for camping before (and it *edited*ed me off) on a round where I had just bought an awp and my whole team died and it was me vs. 8 ppl and I thought that was a bit unfair. I’ve also been playing where more than 4 admins have been on and entire teams have camped spawn (inferno in particular), and I have nothing against this and it turned out to be really funny.
IMO, the rules will be bent from time to time and as long as most people are happy, it shouldn’t be a huge deal. But again, you have some admins that will not even talk to regulars, like myself, when asking for map votes (when < 10 people are on) or asking other general knowledge questions about the server, and generally, will act like DBags, and sticky has never, in my experience, fit into that category.

Spectatori agree, mill is a bad idea
xenocide
Spectatoromg… no westwood, no cs_deagle 5, no aztec, no scoutzknivez???? can this be the normal rotation? =D seems like a good idea all round to me
xenocide
SpectatorI actually like seeing how many points you get for things, but that’s just me.
xenocide
SpectatorMaster P, I looked online for a little bit, searching for HLStatsX forums, and I didn’t really find what I was looking for, which is:
Could you post the code from the program that handles skill point calculations?
—
I have a feeling it needs to be tweaked and I know you can just straight up edit it. This might start to sound to involved, but I really want to examine how it handles relative kills (good player vs. good player and good player vs. bad player) not to mention other random points.
For example, I don’t think it makes sense to just give players points every time they spawn with the bomb, or their team wins, and perhaps… if they kill a noobie. These things matter, but if they account for more than a set percentage of that player’s score already (like i don’t know 50% or a cap like 2000 points), they shouldn’t be able to get anymore. What I’m trying to get at is I think there should be a magic number, like 5000 or something, that is completely unattainable. It would be the equivalent of someone who kills everyone, never dies, and his team always wins.
Furthermore, I think skill has a LOT more to do with who you kill and who kills you (and your K:D) than other factors like efficiency and accuracy. I think E&A say a lot about a player, but I think they are more interesting than relevant.
xenocide
SpectatorAh okay, I still think it’s kind of weird that you have to let your score get THAT high before you can really tell who is good and who isn’t, but I’m happy to try it =D.
xenocide
SpectatorAh ok, well if that is true, then doesn’t this scoring mechanism seem silly? It obviously doesn’t actually evaluate how skilled a player you are in comparison to whom you play against (which is what psychostats attempts to do), but rather, just keeps giving you points for tons of silly things, while only rarely taking them away. I’d bet that even if you were only 1:1, you’d eventually break a “skill” score of 6,000.
IMO, that’s really silly. A system that derives skill from decreases and additions relative to player’s base score calculated from K:D, Accuracy, Efficiency etc. makes a lot more sense.
Iunno just my 2 cents. I don’t see what the point of a system that essentially makes hours played into “skill”.
xenocide
SpectatorHm, well I could be wrong, but it still seems odd to me. Do you mind posting the exact score algorithm? My guess is that the scores will just keep increasing until you reset them.
xenocide
SpectatorI definitely like some of the features of the new stat system, like telling you when you get points and why, however I’m a little confused…
I haven’t seen a calculation for the algorithm, but it would appear that your “skill” just keeps getting larger and larger as you play more. I think you lose a point if you die? But if you spawn with the bomb or kill anyone you get multiple times that. I guess what I’m trying to say it, I would prefer a calculation that quantifies your “skill” based on how good you actually are and not how much you play.
Or am I confused?

Spectatorthe more i’ve played, the more i really hate cs_deagle

SpectatorIn my opinion, the lag is unbearable, and if it continues, your regulars will more than likely find other servers and/or play a lot less. I think as admins and leaders in your gaming council? or whatever it is, you probably need to axe at least one of your game servers so that your upload can handle your player volume. I hope it’s not the WCU 1.6 server b/c when it doesn’t lag, it’s really awesome and like someone else mentioned recently, it made it into the 80th percentile for 1.6 servers. I don’t know what other servers you have running, but gun game seems like a good one to go.
xenocide
Spectatoralso, if you ever bought your steamid/account from another user, especially for the number of digits, it could have been stolen in the first place and should someone try to reclaim their original account, you could lose your current id. I actually had someone hack my current steamid recently – i got 2 emails, one that my password was successfully changed, another that my email was, and it took me 3 weeks of talking to steam help to get my ID back. I also have an old copy of HL:CS with the CD Key on the cover. I tried to activate that account and found that it was already in use (stolen). However, if you have an old version like that where you’re only proof is the physical CD case and key typed on it, then you have to pay $10 and go through a really annoying process to get that ID reclaimed – I’m guessing most ppl dont do it since u can prolly buy a new copy for $5-15.

SpectatorHey there,
Thanks for all your help adam, major, and d2.stickyicky so far. d2 tried to do a votemap for dustworld (I wasn’t there) and said it crashed the server. I double checked and the .bsp file i have linked in this post is the same one on my computer which has worked on nc state’s server over 20 times in the past 3 months. that leads me to think that either ( a ) that crash was a fluke caused by something else or ( b ) that the map is not the problem and something local on the server is.
If anyone has any thoughts, they’d be much appreciated. Also, I tried to get d2 to revote the map to make sure that it did in fact cause the crash but he said he didn’t want to (understandably). If another admin wants to test this (maybe when the server is empty) that would be nice.
Thanks!
**update**
Danksta did a vote and it crashed the server =X (sorry!). I’m so confused by this.
