Like I said in the other thread, if you want to do something like this it might be better to book a quieter room on the 2nd floor of the UC. They’re almost always open on the same day as our LANs and a couple have more than enough table space.
LAN centers are a unique opportunity because few, in any, college students know they exist. They’d love for us to advertise for them as much as we’d like them to advertise for us, your goal is to open up this possibility.
They pulled him because in game 1 he got a little concussed and in this last game he tried to intentionally down the ball to prevent a massive sack and instead fumbled.
IMO they need to replace their offensive linemen before swapping QBs. Swapping QBs is a knee jerk reaction that doesn’t solve the problem of a *edited* poor offense that allows more sacks than my 0-14 high school team.
How about the old man throwing all those interceptions. Reminds me of a certain other player we all know.

I said about a million times now, Valve changed their matchmaking system a couple months back and now the entire system fails epicly. 8 people at WCU could be in the same lobby and select “Best Available Dedicated” and it would pick a server on the west coast with a 300 ping instead of one on campus with a 20 ping. Better than that, I’ve been in lobbys where “Official Dedicated” was selected and it dumped us into a heavily modded server where the lobby lead was admin and his whole team speedhacked into the saferoom.
Don’t bother complaining to valve about any of that. Their response to poor matchmaking is to reinstall Steam and they never replied to the complaint about the official dedicated option selecting a modded server. IMO they don’t know wtf their system is doing.
If the L4D2 servers aren’t showing it’s probably because domo didn’t turn the LAN servers off and most of the them are crashing/restarting a couple times per minute. Until they get turned off the servers going to be about as stable as a 3 legged dog on ice skates.

Unless you live in Europe in which case your anti-corporate governments forced Microsoft to ship an OS without a browser or media player, leaving you pretty much boned if your intent was to actually enjoy your brand new computer.
Btw, the IE9 shows promise to be much faster and more secure than Firefox and Chrome.
Please don’t pull an ASU and reduce PC slots for a LAN where PCs will have higher than average attendance.

As to your drunken thoughts of Red Dawn, no species has the capability to take and occupy an entire planet wholesale. Before even attempting to occupy the planet they would conduct an orbital bombardment, killing at least 60% of the population, ideally 80-90%. The remnants would be too scattered to conduct a proper defense or organize an effective resistance and would gradually be hunted down and killed off.
A species could be forced into submission without wholesale invasion only if they had shifted their military to a space-based force that you wiped out. We won’t be there for at least 200 years, baring drastic changes to current policy or outside interference. Our means of conducting scientific research is just too backwards to accomplish anything useful any quicker than that

There a number of systems in our area of the galaxy that have planets with favorable orbits to support life. If I’m not mistaken they just found that Alpha Centauri contains highly favorable orbits very similar to Sol and it’s only 40-50 years away on conventional drives. Ominous still, NASA’s most recent deep space scanning program published a massive list of 156,000 planets the size of Neptune and smaller but they witheld information on 400 planets to conduct “additional research”. Apparently red dwarfs are now off the list of uninhabitable systems, something that’s been a long time coming IMO.
What sucks about all this space stuff is that NASA’s director now says that “the US is no longer capable of reaching beyond low earth orbit without help from other nations.” Obama cancelled the moonbase, planned to be finished in 2024 and the Mars landing in 2037. He’s trying to cancel the Constellation Program but preventing him from doing so is about the only thing both parties in Congress can agree on right now. As it sits now, NASA is barred from producing a heavy-lift vehicle until 2015, regardless of whether or not they have the design, funding, and capability to do so (which they do).

I was talking about the internet in general but yeah you aren’t the first to comment on the campus internet feeling slower than it did last year.
TCP 80 is probably where you’re having issues, it’s the port the filter focuses on. If you talk to someone in networking be sure to have those ports handy.
The most likely reason it stopped is because the filter is semi-intelligent. If it sees that a packet on port 80 has certain characteristics similar to those it’s supposed to block it may adjust its filtering parameters to include that. Maybe when you went afk the server lagged in a weird way or sent a funky packet. The internet isn’t exactly as reliable and error free as it used to be.

Last year I quit watching them halfway through the first quarter on their first game, they played like a high school team.
This year I might actually keep their games on mute in the background.
There’s not much you can do. If you call the help desk you’ll get a generic “we’re sorry but we can’t help you” and so far all efforts to get other games fixed have fallen on deaf ears.
Try calling the help desk and when they can’t help you ask to be transfered to someone who can or ask for contact info for someone in networking.
