*bump* I’m not one for conspiracy theories, but I’m starting to suspect a massive media cover-up… all around various reputable US and international media sources, any picture of Yao and the kid during the parade of nations (when I find them, there ain’t many) has the flag cropped out. anywho, here’s one from some site I don’t recognize, I’ll try to find a better source later today… I do know that I saw it on tv tho, live and again on rerun on NBC
$0.02 worth of stirring the pot (not been trying to, it just happened)-
opening ceremony, when China was marching round and all that in the parade of nations, and even while they were standing in the gathered mass of all the olympian teams, anyone notice the flag in the kid’s hand? (the one that was the earthquake-destroyed school survivor)
Disclaimer: I don’t credit the kid any responsibility, he’s too young to have a clue what any of this issue meant.

Other issue… for these however many days, I’ll put all else aside and consider the olympic stadiums, arenas, housing, etc. to be as if some separate international entity apart from China, I have and will for every games. The olympic games themselves are about the athletes, and they certainly deserve all the credit for their performances. That’s my thoughts on that
alright, update time… the Falcon got accepted at SPSU into Software Engineering, and I’m returning to charlotte next week and pretty much just commuting via AMTRAK to atlanta and back on thursday for orientation, but unless things there are lined up and wrapped up in a exquisitely nice package ready to go (and I mean, very seriously there would have to figuratively be a gold-paved road right to my seat in class) then I may still plan on putting things off till the spring, there is still much to be done at home (including a huge list of things to do for the parents and things to be done by the parents, etc. etc.) and a week’s notice of whether I’m attending fall classes or not is incredibly short notice, so there still stands a chance that I may not be gracing the servers with my presence until January or so on… but since it’s less far off and if I’ve got room to then I may just attend a lan or two

follow-up:
well, long story short, as of about 2 weeks ago either the mobo or cpu is officially screwed (not user error, either… turned computer off, unplugged, plugged it back in, powered on, and it went crazy), and given the expenses to diagnose which of the two it is, I’m just gonna migrate over to a new amd-based barebone and call it quits.

i totally shoulda taken a picture of the Atlanta City Hall public information kiosk… I hardlocked it soooooo quick opening up a .pdf off the main menu that was supposed to be the brochure you can print out -> Fail
also too i need to find my pictures of the Cat’s Den Need For Speed arcade machines bluescreened. Made me so mad when I was gonna play that for something to do before work
ah yes… and Mr. Bitey – I’d propose spawning a thread to list all the recommendations for the first fall meeting to keep track, I didn’t see one
also, if anyone can and desires to contact gxti… between him, me, and I believe Kuros and someone else, we worked some on a club flier. ‘twould prolly be too late to debut at Valley-watcher-ma-call-it, but that would be something else to see if we can get our hands on, and/or begin anew on.
btw, take note for business to be brought up at fall meeting numba one… have the new CL agree to copy/paste these to a new thread to maintain or just to kick them and start a new rule sheet, /me wants this to be permanently documented legacy

I remember gxti working on the originals, they’re around in SVG somewhere (name your resolution – literally)… I’ll look and see if I have a copy, at one point it was my background…
eh, it would be spectacular publicity, doubly so if we make the news for the biggest bust on campus, just I’d recommend not crossing WCU’s legal branch if we can help it, SGA wouldn’t be as friendly afterwards…
if nothing else, roll out the banners and grab some fliers for fall meeting #1, and bring some of your loot from the LANs to show off (giveaway not necessarily recommended unless you have enough to keep the table happening all evening) and/or pics of the loot winners, that should get some attention. Plus, if you do this and take pics to show to the sponsors, it’s a win-win situation
mstsc is remote desktop, essentially using a LAN connection in lieu of a kvm. to my knowledge it sucks if you’re using graphics-intensive applications. major design flaw imho.
i don’t really know kvms well, so don’t listen to me for advice on brand names
what i did this past semester is my monitor will toggle dvi / vga so i did that for video, and for keyboard, mouse, and accessories i had a usb hub that i moved back and forth with usb keyboard and mouse, etc… to make the switch quicker i had a usb cable to each computer and just changed which one was plugged into the hub.
if i’m in a moderately serious server, then I prefer the spy because I can be the goofball that everyone hates
… I can go behind enemy lines and have fun that way (and he’s got a knife ), or I can cloak up as my own team just to make the other team’s rushers pause for a few when they see another heavy / engineer / sniper / demo in their way 
now, if it’s just a server full of people doing stupid crap, I like playing the pyro for his mad air guitar skills and amusing (and now deadly) kamehameha-like taunt.
and for farming out achievements, I like to be the spy and just stand around and burn my way through a bottomless case of cigarettes… Dance Dance Immolation and Got a Light? are the fruits of torching me while burning down cigarettes
i’d say if and when we got the horsepower to swing it, fire it up. just make sure to confirm that addition as well as other adjustments to the game servers at the next meeting
p.s. i’m not voting, only coz i don’t know if i’ll be around to realize any changes from this decision if it happens soon
bump, corrected admin rule 14 to include MasterP and the current club executive staff. MasterP, review this list as you will, there may be some names up for addition/removal for this list per your interests.
Those I have on the list currently are there because of their current and/or past significance in the club or as server CL.

i either need to get rolling on my machine back home or need to implement some population control… geez that server took off fast… at 18 players I didn’t know wtf I was doing
if i’m still in charlotte, i’ll see if my sis doesn’t mind me finding out whether or not her laptop will run it and i’ll try to be there friday night

a few quick comments:
one – TF2 has no bots available as does counter-strike. thus when it drops to a literal 0 pop then it will be sneezed at by anyone looking to play. Even if we make all the changes, we need people to commit to being in the server at a set time slot and for them to announce it as such so that we can form up a decent population. If you would like to do that, that will help pop the server, just you could be idling it solo for the better part of several hours (done that several times). Do I hear an offer?
two – the servers aren’t “allotted” a portion of the server’s power to my knowledge. They just run, and if they bottleneck they bottleneck. I don’t know where you’re going with that.
three – it’d be *edited* foolish to add another TF2 server and try to pop 2, given that just 1 is as difficult as it is. This isn’t like the movie Field of Dreams – “If you build it, they will come”.
four – I’ve CL’d two servers that didn’t pop and one that did, and did nothing different. Our server will draw crowds because of the people that are playing here, not what they’re playing. People have made our counter-strike servers what they are because the people themselves are awesome. TF2 Fridays are about getting our regulars over there so that we can start drawing people in around the people we already have… that’s gonna take time, and you’re welcome to help out. call people up and tell them about TF2 fridays.
five – you’d have a much better chance at a good thorough discussion about changing the server(s) if you would be more polite and friendly, don’t just walk in and start bashing.
six – the name change – no. I’m not even gonna argue that coz i’ll make no sense just ranting and raving, but the cs1.6 and cs:s servers are doing just fine and haven’t had quirky names.

the one thing I can think of that would maybe give this server a good quick boost is just have volunteers squat it and run down achievements with people, and be nice about it.
I can’t believe i haven’t done this yet…
