Actually I notice the server crash alot when going off of iceworld and back to dust — it will occasionally crash causing dust 2 to be played twice, back to back.

While you offered some very good points I feel your weighing out was mostly in favor of rotation during peek hours. Its easy to argue that during peak hours we should have a rotation because it limits the amount of time spent on popular maps and adds new elements to the consistent grind of popular maps.
Furthermore, this post took me so long to address because I had very little time in which to completely evaluate it.
Now while I do NOT play source, I can tailor my evaluation based on my point of view of map rotation on 1.6. So if you find any argument you take disagreement with then I’m sorry and I would hope you can post a better idea. Or at the minimum a supplement
When asking yourself the fundamental question of whether or not to use a rotation system what you have to ask is : to whom are you pandering, regulars or the general populace.
Since in this scenario this question is already answered for us ( regs. ) it is fair to continue with these points in mind:
1. Our regulars frequent the server on a daily basis
2. The amount of time played by the average regular player I would easily say between 1 hour to 3 hours.
3. The length of map rotation
4. Population of server during OFF peak hours.
Now we must as freeman did address the pros and cons
Mapvoting
Pros:
-Choice of next map — relative plus for most players
-Ensures a popular rotation and relatively high population
-If the appropriate restrictions are set there are a variety of maps played
Cons:
-If losing in the voting–resentment followed by flaming for being a crybaby
-If inappropriate restrictions are in place map variety is minimized — ultimately hurtful towards regulars
vs
Rotation
Pros:
-Consistent cycle that ensures map variety
-Allows players to “time” when they want to play
-No fuss and muss about losing voting
Cons:
-As far as freedom on the internet goes it becomes severely limited not to have a “voice” in which map you play
-Certain maps drastically reduce player population (or as I like to call it, the death spin)
-Most large maps suck without server population.
Again. This is not specific to EVERYDAY but it is fair to address some key points about each argument.
1 Rotation is absolutely the most responsible measure during peak hours for a variety of gaming
2 Rotation will guarantee map variety
3 Rotation will destroy all flexibility in the way maps are played
4 Rotation will assure that casual players avoid unpopular maps
If our goal is maximization of maps played during peak hours you have my total agreement.
However to specifically state that one is greater than another is simply not feasible. Drastic times call for drastic measure and I personally believe that during off peak hours. Between 2am EST – 2/3pm EST map rotation is detrimental to server population as well as regular gamers who actually enjoy dust2, office, aztec ( im only a fan of d2 the rest suck *edited*).

As all of you know while I randomly play same days alot some not all. When I do play, I play for stretches of hours. Im talking like 8+. Today, at around 2pm EST, was one of those days where militia wiped about half the people playing. In other words, we went from a full server to 14 -16 people. Perhaps we can lower the rate of time a map — specifically militia , italy, and assault and such maps are played and increase the time played on scoutz and knives ( server is just about always full when scout is up and a bit more time playing it would be great).

Yah I read about those. Anyways Ill be glad to join a irc channel but you definately prefer sommething like ventrillo (i dont believe you can do voice through irc but if you can ill do that also )

Ok this is now attempt 3. I dont understand how I got the FIRST reply window. I tested– if this fails below– but if it succeeds above. Ill explain. My first idea was to continue posting to myself. But it didnt work: Then I did something. I attempted to quote the first post and reply and it worked. However subsequent attempts to do the same thing havent worked to the second post. Which is explained in my reaction. Where that explanation is located is the purpose behind this test. Now I make the test to see if a reply to the first post will give me a third one. If it fails to this text will appear ABOVE post #2 but if it succeeds BELOW post #2 or rather this post will appear as post #3

I agree map voting allows people to justly play the maps they want. I’ve seen scenarios where I (fan of d2) have voted for d2 and seen Aztec come up winner. Aztec. Over d2? Pshaa players musta been smokin something but whatever! I do think there is already a delay of a few maps before another map is put back on the vote rotation and I have seen a good mix as of lately between d2, aztec, office, inferno, dust, italy, .. which are usually the maps played on cycle. I even saw that hostie map.. i dunno the name cuz i hate it.. the one with the sewers and the ramp where you save hosties.. bleh. Horrible but we’ve played it. There you have the latest 1.6 report as of a few days ago where I played 13 straight hours. Yes. 13. I guess that 2 week hiatus had me hurtin to play
Forums? I see nothing about server on forums.. main site.. big shinny letters I saw “Be up tonight” But its tomorrow now! And no CS to make me feel warm on the inside. Nobody loves me.
I dont care what anyone says 1 was the bomb. I remember 1.02 .. 1.03.. 1.04 (end of WON !) 1.5 (On steam which officially ruined cs) 1.6 which fixed 1.5 bugs made its own new ones and added ad’s bleh In the end WON gaming service was much better I loved to see 20 ppl playing with the same steamID hehe
de_vertigo definately, as for regular assault.. UPC makes it easier on CTS on an already lopsided map. As for admins not being around… As for people just jumping off on purpose i havent seen anyone do it continuously. As for other maps iceworld rules!
For me puhlease..LOL — thanks and Ok well I used to play a MUDD “Dragonrealms” and there was this level 40 monster a death spirit. Couldn’t hit it unless you were blessed.. and thus I liked the name and have had it for years so yah Ds for short .
