ParticipantHeadsets and controllers are very two different things. MLG allows people to bring their own controller as long its not a modded controller, therefore everyone will be on equal footing. PC people as you said are required to use headsets, who keeps track of that? Are you telling me that if I go to the LAN I will see every single person in the PC section using them?
I can understand that it can be a big advantage, why do you think people buy them in the first place?
Also Mitch, i’ll take you on with your challange. If you bring it up, I will play 1v1 against you.

ParticipantI understand what you’re saying MasterP but if the gaming club is going to host tournaments they should expect some competitive people showing up. The competitive people are going to want to use the equipment they bought otherwise it would be a waste of money. If you want a non competitive atmosphere then there shouldn’t be tournaments, but rather just have free play. More people would most likely have an opportunity to play if all we did was free play.
As for the people leaving, they were just upset that they had lost in the tournament and decided to take their equipment and leave. It had nothing to do with using headphones during matches; they were some of the ones using them. This has been a touchy topic for me just because if I decide to buy a nice quality headset I would want to use it at anything that is video game related. Sure, I would get use of it at home but why would I not want to use it in a tournament?
This is all IMO. Maybe it’s because I have been around MLG too long, but I feel if you buy something for a specific purpose you should be able to use it.
Kaz if you want their names PM me.

Hate to necro threads but did you guys really let console players use headsets during the LAN?
Are you implying console players should not be allowed to wear headsets? If so, why?

hopefully it will increase with next semester’s fresh meat. We need to just take games that are massivlely played and put them in the spotlight and put more time towards them.
Thank you <3

I was thinking about maybe having a charity MTG tournament. I think a suggested donation of maybe $5ish would be fine, and maybe $20 worth of prizes. All profits, after refunding the club for prizes, could be donated to Red Cross. Do you guys think this would be a good idea? Perhaps we can hold this on the Sunday after the next lan?
We might be able to get prizes for free/cheap from Quantum for this, but I haven’t talked to them about this yet. I’ll speak to them after I get some feedback from the club.
As long as this happens, I think its a great idea.

Im not sure, Im going to talk to FTE to see what he thinks.
As long as we make profit from these tournaments then it shouldn’t be a problem. Just make sure we make some sort of profit after buying the fat packs for these tournaments.

No i meant 10 buck a head, escentially even if only 4 teams showed up they would be making their money back, but if you think the price is to steep we can drop it if it will attract more ppl. The main reason i had that price is it worked at the last event like this with great success.
$10 a head is even better
I will make a post on MLG’s forums.a waffle
ParticipantIf MLG locals decide come they are going to want to take home a decent amount in order to cover their travel arrangements and possibly make some profit. Considering the final pot will have to be split up among the team, people are not going to want to come if they will lose money in getting here. 20 bucks a team is only 5 dollars a person, which the same as the entry fee to the LAN, plus we are donating half of our proceeds to Relay for Life. Depending on how many teams show it could get a decent amount of money to entice MLG locals from NC to come and compete.
I could be reading his OP wrong and it be $10 per person but I assume he was saying $10 a team.
Thor could you clear up my confusion.

If we do a draft, which is what we will do if we do have any Magic tournaments, there will be an entrance fee. It will cover the cost of the cards that the participants will receive for the draft and nothing else. As for the actual price, I have yet to determine one but will come up with one soon.
Why not make it the same as the LAN entry fee?

ParticipantThank you, <3.
