ParticipantI remember when App died. I guess the ‘summer’ is just too much for CS servers too handle.

ParticipantDo you guys run more than 1 server on the CS box, also is it on linux?
July 19, 2008 at 11:13 am #51714Liam
ParticipantYes, no, its Windows Server 2003.
July 19, 2008 at 11:51 am #51718Jrb599
ParticipantThat explains a lot.

That explains a lot.Not really. It’s always been that way, the dedicated server is designed to run on Windows and was ported to Linux to appease people.
The latency issues with CS should be cleared up and are from what I’ve heard. There were old NIC drivers installed on the server and the card being used was failing.
Both of these issues have been corrected. If they’ve not, tell us so we can fix it!

ParticipantWhat has happened since january to make this server empty? i can not figure it out. But since january it has slowly been dieing. and its now dead. I have not been playing 1.6 to much so not sure whats going on ingame. But i suspect the ingame environment is not as inviting, and we should look into revamping the server ingame admins. Every time i do funnight the server pops like a 18yr old girl on prom night. Seriously during that time it is fun and people stick around and play map to map.
Because i dont play much anymore…
Tell us, how “friendly” or inviting is the server when you join it. sit back and take the view, “if i just joined WCU for the first time, does the server have that something special, thats going to make me add WCU to the Favorites list?” This is just my theory, let me know what you think how our “environment” is.

Do we still have the rotation and config from this time last year? If so can we implement it? Idk what’s wrong with the current config but we know that one worked well.
July 19, 2008 at 3:05 pm #51742lockEm
ParticipantI haven’t really noticed a change in the environment..just less regulars using the mics making the game fun.
Honestly, I know this issue has been talked about A LOT, but I’m almost positive its the maps. Seriously, this game has been out for ages, everyone has been playing d2, inferno, nuke, cbble, etc for SO LONG. While those maps are still fun occasionally, playing custom/fun maps is much more fun imo. Lately I haven’t been joining the server unless its on awp_dust, snow, scoutz, awp_map, etc..
Just some thoughts!

ParticipantI lost all 1.6 stuff from when i ran it years back.
Off Topic, if any of our servers are running good now.. it might be a good time to save all files/settings and archive them so this does not happen again.

people come to servers that are fun, the playersbase on top of anything make it fun.
So digging for the roots…
the questions is now, why are the regulars not talking it up, kicking back and having fun?

To my knowledge everything is working fine, everythings been working fine except CS16 (lol?). As to the configs, they were completely rebuilt when Tron was reformatted. There should still be a backup of the pre-format configs on multiple drives but it’s definately something to double check.

Participantwell a few regulars i know like zoso and csa sam and (people i cannot think of my head) havent been online for ages.
digital just got back online and started to play again but not really in wcu though
July 19, 2008 at 3:56 pm #51759MasterP
ParticipantGames DO die and no matter what you change you can’t save them. CS16 has been sucking the life out of people for 12 years now, maybe it’s just its time to die?
Has anyone looked at CS from a broader prospective to see if ours is the only one that just dried up? Check the non-Valve gameplay stats (like Xfire) and you’ll notice CS isn’t anywhere near the top and is far below CSS.

then source came out and as i was playing competively, my life got in the way of it. Sold my 4digit for a good amount of money, bought another one and now here i am playing sourcee and getting used to source made my 1.6 skill drop dramatically

ParticipantWell i have been taking to a lot of regulars and well they dont play at wcu anymore dunno why
July 20, 2008 at 12:50 pm #51827yousillyGoose
ParticipantI still plan on playing. Family is on vacation for a week so I haven’t been on (but you can’t get rid of me). I just feel that a domino effect went down with the server being repaired and all the fun. I think that if we can start getting people always in there again it will fill up. Perhaps more fun nights will do the trick? Maybe a nightly rotation of only fun maps would make people come in. From playing I have learned that the large majority of people enjoy playing fun maps late at night when they are all in their silly moods. Just a thought for everyone
. If I can do anything to help I would love to (but you guys are pretty awesome and probably don’t need it).July 20, 2008 at 12:51 pm #51828Liam
ParticipantCan you find out?
July 20, 2008 at 1:17 pm #51831yousillyGoose
ParticipantI know that was pointed at Wispy but I’ll ask around as well.
July 20, 2008 at 1:51 pm #51838lockEm
ParticipantYeah at nights the only thing I want to play is fun maps..
In MY opinion, you should set up a small rotation of 10-12 maps. Half fun maps and half the best official maps.
I remember when App died we had huge threads about it and all agreed it was the map rotation, but we changed it and it didn’t really do anything.

man i havent seen zoso in ages…you wouldnt believe the “regs” on my friends list that havent been on in 100+ dayslike poopie said many of them either moved on and got jobs n stuff like that, or just don’t play…other than that many regs of the foreign kind stopped coming because
a) other regs lefts
b( HPK and ppl w/ bad rates just made it impossible for ppl to play
pulla hyde shodi rarely come on now cause of that.
and lastly, its summer… some of us see it as the time to kick back and play sum CS before school starts again, while others see it as a time to get out and get some money before school/whatever starts again.
i’d say that after say September if the server isnt picking back up then we should call 1.6 dead.
July 20, 2008 at 4:12 pm #51860yousillyGoose
ParticipantCalling it dead seems so sad. I think it can always be fixed
July 21, 2008 at 8:46 am #51915
Adam FaulknerParticipantIts not dead, it will be back full in a few weeks. Laf at people who think its dying. I am always humored by CSS players that have been saying 1.6 is dying or is going to die. Its like they wish we were all forced to play CSS. Maybe they get lonely. I guess this is why people are baffled when it is so hard to populate servers built on new platforms like the hl2 and orange box engine.
Anyway laf at this joke of a thread.

ParticipantI didn’t stop because of that. The main reason i stopped was due to my ping issue that i had for around a month that was only at wcu =/ During that period i found another server that had the best registration i have ever seen of a public server. It’s better than most private servers i’ve ever played on.
But yeah, i kinda just carried on playing there after making a few friends and having most of my team now play there.
But i did attempt to come back to wcu but i just couldn’t go back to the registry here especially now all the regulars i used to love playing with are no longer here. Just doesn’t feel the same anymore really.
Plus the fact that i don’t really play cs anywhere near as much as i used to.
