Yes, I think it will be a landslide.
The republicans have been trying to work with the democrats.(I do not call myself a republican, so don’t say im just going with pary rhetoric)
If you would have watched c-span for ten hours sunday like I did, you would have seen the republicans standing up and pleading with the dems to slow down and make a better bill.
They rushed this through, made backroom deals, and all that, just to wait 4 years until it’s implemented?
The republicans constantly said that they weren’t even allowed to help make this bill, that they are in support of healthcare reform, that they realize it needs to be done, but that there is a better way to do it.
I’m being totally serious though. Go ride in an ambulance, you will see unbelievable *edited*, and I’m not talking gruesome.
I pick up people every day, in government subsidized housing, in a ratty old house, with no smoke detectors, 3 small children. 50″ Flat Panel TV, xbox 360, blue ray with a stack of cd’s next to it, Biggest Stereo You’ve ever seen. Stainless steel refrigerator, dirty dishes piled up everywhere, you can smell the smoke in the house.
Person has COPD, is over 400 pounds and can’t walk and we have to call in for a bariatric stretcher. She’s on oxygen permanently because of what the smoking has done to her lungs permanently.
Takes the oxygen mask off to be able to smoke a cigarette because the oxygen could ignite.
We’re waiting on a *edited*ing fatty stretcher, and the cow is smoking a cig, while the cig is exactly what put her in the position she’s in now.
Why should I have to pay for her?
so what do we do about them? let them die? Better yet lets just round up all of them and gas them. Much cheaper and more efficient. I have no feelings for people like that. I can’t stand them either. There is no hope for her. But like you said she has kids, there is still hope for them. Iono i’d rather pay for hopeless dopes if it saves a decent person every now and then.
I’ve been in an ambulance before. My aunt works in a hospital. I see alot of drug abusers and diabetic wastes of life. But I also see people that genuinely need the help.
So you think without this system, you’d see the same thing happening?
I bet you $1,000,000 (That’s one million doll hairs) that if you got rid of medicare, unemployment, social security, welfare, food stamps/ebt. The unemployment rate would be the lowest this country has ever seen.
What we have today is a way for people to live without any responsibility, other than *edited*ting out babies and walking out to their mailbox to receive their government handout.
And no, I’m not being harsh, 99.9% of the people that are impoverished today, are poor by their own doing.

ParticipantOf course insurance company’s stocks just went up…. everyone is going to be required to buy insurance.. if they can survive the next 4 years guaranteed business sounds pretty good doesn’t it?
The only reason for them forcing people to have insurance is a concession to the insurance companies accepting all pre-existing conditions.. but if everyone IS FORCED to have insurance then pre-existing conditions will become extinct.
This is no surprise ..

Wat.
Oh yeah, here’s a fun little scenario for you guys now
So say i’m a 20 year old with a big *edited*, and no medical problems
The penalty for not having insurance is only 2% of your gross income. Whereas actual Insurance would cost a *edited*boat more.
Preexisting conditions dont matter.
I get in a wreck, tears my *edited* off.
I need a prosthetic, but have no insurance.
Ohwait, I’ll just sign up for insurance, get my prosthetic, since there’s no no pre-existing conditions clause
This *edited*’s gonna work out well for everyone.

What about doctors who make lots of money off sick people? Or hospitals? Drug companies?
Where does it end comrade?
Triage ring a bell?
You realize hospitals HAVE to take emergency patients in regardless of whether or not they can afford their needed treatment to survive. You can’t just give someone who suffered a pulmunary anurwhatever tylenol and send him on his merry way. If they can’t afford it, it comes from us the tax payers. That brilliantness was signed by Reagan your lord and savior. If HCR is unconstitutional so is the above.
you have smoked yourself retarded. Triage is the procces of determining who to see first, in order of the severity of the injury.

thank you rocket bob. I admit i was talking about of my *edited* when trying to use triage as an example. Wasn’t stoned yet tho ;P
It ends when everyone is with THE system, Comrade. /evilgrin
what I meant to say was that unlike insurance, a doctor, at least the ones i know, are practicing because they like to help people. Can we say that about insurance companies? No not really, they are a business looking at ways to make money, and if that means dropping people for being a liability then that’s what they do. Hospitals can’t drop you like an insurance company can could.
well now insurance companies can’t either. whoop.

So a doctor is forced to provide surgery, even if its a million dollar operation, in order to save someone’s life, but hey you’re on your own after 100k so says the insurance company. i.e. a liability.

Participantwell the main problem is how this system can and likely will be exploited. After all someone can pay the fine which is cheaper than insurance rates. When they do get sick, because insurance companies can’t turn away for preexisting conditions, they can just go to an insurance company and say they need them to cover the cost. People like this are going to make the insurance companies have to charge more so they can maintain a profit. In essence, the people who do the “right” thing are going to get punished for it. It’s one of those things that looks good on paper but implementing it will lead to all kinds of problems.

why is it that someone’s health is inferior to a companies profit numbers? So when a person exploits a company it’s the end of the world but when a company exploits millions, well that’s just good business. That’s the problem.
Corporations have the same rights as people (thank you conservative supreme court), so logically they are just as greedy and vicious as any other individual (if not more so). Like i said before, it’s one thing to find ways to sell a *edited*ing car or product, but when dealing with people, health should come before the profit. Denying someone a car or cellphone won’t kill a person, denying coverage potentially can.

March 24, 2010 at 11:19 am #98999Feeddatroll
Participanti see your point but one i’m trying to say is that when a individual exploits a company the company will further exploit many other people. Besides it is a business and the purpose of business is to make money. If they aren’t making any money they will quit the business and run away with what they have. It has happened before. If this causes the entire company to go down it will only lead to a bunch of people who payed a lot of money for insurance and now have no benefits to show for it.

It’s not that the insurance companies profits are more important.
But in that scenario it bankrupts the insurance companies, and then you’re stuck with the government’s health care. Which has already been proven to be able to ration care.

they can’t do that unless it is specified in the policy… which is a contract that everyone should read before they sign.. all of this is regulated by each state that the insurance company resides in.
They really can’t just drop you.

It’s a business. If you want non-profit look into charities. There are bad insurance companies that exploit their clients, but there are a lot of good ones too. If you really want to make a difference change it back to insurance companies being able to sell insurance to other states. The sheer competition would cause improvement in health care far faster than this Bill ever would.

So anyway, in 2012, after President Obama (the anti-christ) has sufficiently weakened our economy, Bin Ladden will notice our weaknesses and blow up major cities all over the US.. In a rash but planned exodus, Obama will launch a Nuclear war which will be answered by Nuclear weapons pointed at the United States. We will intercept a few but we won’t be able to shoot down all of them and will eventually die. The end of the world.
BAM
All because one guy wanted to break America.. why ..

That would be the nature of the Anti-Christ, he’ll be your best friend while in the background he is *edited*ing you big time. Specifically the “dangerously irresponsible politician and major economic and international chaos” part, that would be the Anti-Christ’s home turf.
I haven’t seen enough to believe that Obama is the Anti-Christ, my thing with Obama is, I can’t tell if it is him behind it all or he is just the puppet being controlled by the Democratic radical crazies. Whichever it is would determine my opinion on this particular subject.
March 26, 2010 at 9:23 am #99196newrayz
Participantoh no it’s definitely obama behind it all. I’m not trying to talk down on bush, but if you take a look at his presidency (minus the latter part of his second term) you could tell he was being manipulated. Obama swings the big *edited* in the oval office though.
As far as the antichrist is concerned, well that brings up a whole different argument. Like uhm, prove that he even exists, or rather prove that he will exist. And no, the bible isn’t proof enough, unless of course you feel your faith is a perfectly rational explanation for it. Faith of course being an irrational leap of trust/belief in something you can’t explain. Can’t really argue against it, but if you honestly believe obama, or any future US president for that matter is an antichrist, well you are just as radical and crazy as you protest said president to be. Besides, in the bible does it say the US president will be the antichrist. The way things are shaping, the rulers of the world will be chinese, not american. Regardless on your take on the matter, it’s as *edited*ing stupid as relating obama to hitler. Obama is obama, doing his own thing, for the better (or worse depending on your outlook). iono, it’s one thing to take the bible and apply it to your life and moral structure, but it’s another to take it literally. You can’t argue against someone who takes the bible that literally, because they in fact are *edited*ing crazy irrational.

ParticipantWay to dis every single Christian…
March 26, 2010 at 9:46 am #99198newrayz
Participantno actually, i’m just dissing every single christian who is so selfcentric they actually believe the end of times is near and oh yeah, the antichrist is going to be a US president. with no proof at all, bible or not. and no, similar arbitrary connections aren’t proof in the pudding. what if’s or future conspiracies aren’t proof at all. Wild accusations don’t prove anything. But the bible says so…The bible says a lot things, do we take them all literally? If you do, then yes you are irrational. I mean it’s the truth though, faith is something that is done without reason i.e. irrational. And i mean very literally, as in the earth is only a few thousand years old and many of the well known metephors and analogies used as pure fact.
BTW not every christian takes the bible literally. I don’t. I still believe in Jesus. and love him unconditionally. Doesn’t mean I have to take the whole book literally. Oh but let me guess, I must be doing it wrong huh?
March 26, 2010 at 10:09 am #99199Bitey
ParticipantWe can talk about the bible in another thread if you want I would be happy to explain some stuff that I at one time didn’t understand either. For example the idea of time, if we are saying that God created the universe in 7 days. First what was a day back then, secondly how long was a day in God’s eyes? The bible is deep, whether you want to bash it or make fun of it is up to you but if people actually took the time to delve into the possibilities you would find that there are some very interesting possibilities in what is written.
I do not take the bible word for word either, I think it is highly left up for interpretation, but once book is pretty clear about what is going to happen and that is Revelations. Take one of the letters Paul wrote, the one talking about “women’s” rights, a huge subject of controversy, many people misinterpret this, Christians as well as non-Christians. But the fact is Paul was directly addressing the women in the village/town whatever that this letter was addressed to, basically saying do not become like these women or your only hope will be to fall into these rules to get you back on track. Most of Paul’s letters were like this specifically addressing the people it was addressed to, so to us today not really applicable, and we as humans should be intelligent enough to realize that, as Christians have faith enough to pray and ask for guidance on it.
