ParticipantThis club has taken a turn for the worse and I will not be here to see it fail. Admins can come in and abuse when they are drunk and nothing happens to them. Posts that flame or contradict something that an executive says, or disagree with them in any matter as far as that goes, mysteriously disappear. The president does not run the club, individuals that live more than 200 miles from this campus. This is it for me until things turn around. It’s been a great 2 years. I hate to see it get ruined like this.

ParticipantIts disappointing that a past executive feels this way. We appreciate your contribution to this club, and as always we only hope the best for this club. We all enjoy this club and its community very much and no one here wants to see it disappear. It is true that it has been said many times the club has taken a downturn, but to be honest I actually see a much needed upturn in the club since the new president has taken over. The executives seem to be working more closely and more united than ever. The community is growing, and I hear we are gaining more sponsors. We just got our box from ITS and Housing, so we are taking positive strides. As always we all appreciate constructive criticism, as constructive criticism helps make this club a better more enjoyable experience for everyone. I know several people off hand that may live at least hundreds of miles away love this club, and the people in it, but also do alot for this club. Alot of our server admins do not attend wcu, most of our alumni do not live close to western, even one of our clubs executives resides quite a distance from campus. But you also see that most of those people make the drive just to help this club grow and expand.

Participanttheir has been alot more good in the past few months than their has been bad. In the past its been soly the president doing ALL teh work. It is now a working system with everyone pulling their load. This is how it shood be. The President does not run the club, He heads it. unlike the past, when you did both.
Its hands down improving

ParticipantThen I guess it’s good riddance. Glad to know I was truly appreciated.

ParticipantI highly agree with ABritt’s post.. I think i have seen this club grow. Not that I am saying you didn’t do your part Shane and do very good things for this club, but now all i hear is negatives.
And anything negitive will of course effect the club negatively so if you care so much about the club why all the recent comments.
I think you did a very good job as president and when you were the head of this club you never said anything bad or anything like that… yet now you are all about the negativity.
Why?

Are you testing us on how much drama we can handle? Thats the viewpoint i’v been receiving the past few days

ParticipantNow my opinion may not count for much on this particular thread but I feel I must comment.
To you Kuros: I’m sorry to see you leave… but I don’t see where you are coming from. When my fellow
monkeys and I found this server 1-1.5 years ago we kept coming back for the great server and eventually
the great community. In fact I don’t play CSS online unless I can play at WCU. All other servers are fail.
However, you are entitled to your own opinion just as I am entitled to mine.
To everyone else: Keep up the great community… It’s what keeps the servers alive. Also do not alienate Kuros.
He is still a part of this community and has done many things for it. And again, good job to the council and the
admins for keeping everything running smoothly for us players. WCU wouldn’t be what it is without you.
Wow this is long winded for me and not what I expected to post. Well that’s it for me for now.
Peace

ParticipantI think it best that we kinda close this thread, it’s a very agreed general consensus that kuros did a great job here as president. There is no reason to burn bridges. Let’s face it, the past 5 or so months has seen a lot… The servers were handling a huge load and crappin out a lot more, that’s finally gettin fixed. Brian kinda left out of nowhere – i respect him and his decisions – but it hurt the css server without question. Bitey was sworn in as pres… along with a lot of new cl’s and execs… anytime there is a change in power there is gonna be a drop initially. I think we are moving forward, but that’s what a good club does. Just takin a lil time to get the feet wet and the routine down. So I think we can agree that yeah the servers haven’t been great prob since oct/nov/dec – but a lot has happened. And we’re all doing our best to move forward. Kuros i’d love to see you jump in the server every now and then and keep in touch buddy.

ParticipantAbove all, i think WCU has been doing great lately. I really liked the re-introduction of the rotation, and the decline of the voting system. That’s helped out tremendously i think. I really haven’t seen much of anything that i would think of as bad. Sure, there have been a lot of new admins, me being one of them, but i haven’t seen any bad admin action necessarily (i could be wrong, haven’t been on in the past week). Also, there have been the minor blips, with the new admin mod and such, but that’s all getting worked out. As far as the community goes, I think it’s been wonderful. I totally back up #5 in saying that i really don’t play CS:S unless i can get onto WCU. It’s by far the greatest server i’ve ever come across. Everyone seems to be so tight with each other, and friendly. We’ve seen a large influx of new people to the server lately, and i think that’s partly due to the friendly atmosphere portrayed by everyone on the server. EVERYONE gets along.
Just my nickel,

ParticipantKuros, great job as president. I do agree with your second sentence. Considering the situation, there should be punishment meted out to the offending admin. However, that is not for me to decide. On the other hand, I have been playing at WCU for almost 2 years now, I have been an admin for nearly a year. I have seen some garbage go on around here, but it always seems to work itself out in the end. This server is truly the best server I have ever played on, and it is because of the people who play on it, backed up by a working and active forum section that allows the concerns of all players to be heard. Banned? Appeal it. Want admin? Prove it by giving time and effort. Have a concern? Just say so. This server has a lot going for it and as long as the WCU execs keep taking care of it, it will stay that way. As long as they listen to the players, our server will remain full and in good condition. Its funny how I feel such a connection to this place, even though I live 1500 miles away. So in closing, keep up the good work.

ParticipantI’m not getting involved in this drama, but the majority of you are missing his entire point of his post. The gaming club is not just about how well the servers are running. Reread his post, the only thing server wise he complains about is a drunk admin, abusing power and presenting WCU in a negative fashion and there was no disciplinary action taken against this individual, at least not to Kuros or my knowledge. Most of his complaints center around behavioral problems rather than configurations on the servers. The president doesn’t need to be the only person solely doing everything, he needs to delegate, but there comes a point when he has to restrict exactly what he is allowing others to do in the club and take action against those who break the rules. If the president lets one person break the rules and get away with it, others will see that it’s okay to do the same. There are rules and they need to be followed, and punished if broken. This is the point Kuros is trying to get across in his post. I’m not implying that Kuros was the perfect president or that Bitey will be a bad president, but Kuros is completely entitled to his own opinion about how things are being ran and is freely expressing it (considering he did put a lot of time into the club, like others before him, they all care a lot about what happens to the club) .

April 2, 2008 at 12:46 am #41395Kuros
ParticipantI think Karen hit the nail on the head. Why did you even bother having the admins sign a rules thread if nothing was going to be done when the rules were broken? You might as well trash that entire thread and not even bother making the new admins sign it because it’s been proven that they don’t mean anything. I’m not saying Bitey is a bad president, in fact, I would not have helped him get to this point if I did not have absolute confidence in him. I do not agree with the general direction of the club. Server population is not everything, there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes as Bitey is slowly but surely beginning to learn. When I took over, the club went into a rut, I’m not surprised to see it do the same with Bitey and it’s not his fault at all, it’s just the way it goes. But rather than ignore what I have to say after running this club for two years, I’d like to think that my opinion on matters at least counted for something. It has been made obvious to me however, that they do not. That is why I removed my executive permissions and rejoin the masses as a mere member. There is no point in submitting opinions that are going to be ignored. I’m not going to waste my time.

ParticipantKuros I kind of understand more now what your talking about. Which way do you see the club going? And what was your vision of where it should go when your presidency was done?
April 2, 2008 at 1:09 am #41399Kuros
ParticipantIt all boils down to this. Just because you have the power to do something doesn’t mean you should. For instance, earlier today the webserver was restarted because it had been up for 1500 hours. It’s a server…it’s supposed to be up for 1500+ hours. If you did that in a corporate environment, you would get fired. It should be no different here…this club has a fun side and a business/administrative side. The server did not need to be restarted. Just because you have RDP and think it’s so cool to remote into a server doesn’t mean it needs to be done. That’s the kind of things that are going on unchecked. The stuff that happens that we think is slightly annoying or a slight inconvenience ends up growing into a major issue.

Participantif thats the case then why was this not taken up with the execs? instead of made publicly to create more delima, what does this prove?

If you’re going to reset the server, do it at 3-5am when you know no one is going to be using it. Aphrodite and TRON are both production servers and are rarely given the respect that comes with that title. Unless there is something quantifiably wrong with the server there is no reason to touch it at all and there is absolutely no reason to RDP into it unless something major is wrong.
