oh and idk about how good battery life is from htc but all smartphones have pretty *edited*ty battery life.

They haven’t figured out how to put unused apps to sleep or auto exit or even have a pop up asking if you want to exit after a certain time of unuse?

On my blackberry they have that. Just hit menu>close and your done.

I still have to charge it every night cause I listen to music constantly lol

um you can sideload android apps. plus the online marketplace has tons of free apps. windows mobile doesnt even have a marketplace…

I googled for a while and everything I saw pointed back to something on the android market. Screenshot or it didn’t happen. <_>

You don’t have to have a central marketplace to have a device that’s useful and productive. How many years did you get by just fine without Steam and itunes?

and there is a reason that no new windows mobile phones have come out for the past 16 months. I mean it was good back when it was new and relevant but the current version out (6.5) is soooooooo far behind every other OS out there and 7.0 is a completely new monster, where you lose that ability to sideload apps that you were talking about, and also it lacks multitasking which even apple does now. Sorry but MS has some serious work to do in order to get back in the smartphone market.

It still multitasks programs but will only do so on programs Microsoft has determined aren’t detrimental to be left running in the background. This is a serious problem with some 3rd party apps that are big memory hogs and don’t always exit when you close the window. Adobe is a big memory hog last I looked. The marketplace might not be such a bad idea but it will really depend on how MS runs with it. From what I’ve seen it looks like you simply add an app and it automatically gets pushed to your phone, which is cool.

MS seems to be gearing WM7 more towards corporate use though which will make them money but could really hurt their regular consumer business.

No not every black berry can be used globally. Ask what ones before you buy. I know the tour does but thats all I can attest to. Dealing with e mails on my black berry is very very simple and I usually dont even check them from a pc anymore unless I have to open up something big or send a file out. As far as the fun factor of it well….its non existant but hey black berrys were first made for the business man so yeah what do you expect.

Global use depends on the phone and your carrier. Most phones on ATT should work in Europe, as should any other GSM-based phone, but the usage rate without an international plan is really expensive. Blackberrys should work overseas but it’s always best to ask and be sure before spending money on one.

Only Verizon’s 4G phones will work overseas and definately ask before buying.

Btw, Verizon’s 4G network sounds to be pretty epic. SIM cards, longer reaching towers, and during initial testing they were seeing 50-100MBit/sec downstream speeds. GG

you can load using this: http://forum.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?p=236589#post236589

also just because I didnt need steam and itunes back in 2002 doesn’t mean it is the way to do things in 2010. It’s pretty much inexcusable that you need a PC to load an app on a windows mobile phone. Got a mac? well then dont bother with a windows mobile phone.

you can only multitask using 1st party apps. that means no streaming pandora in the background or saving your spot in your twitter app etc. like I said even apple is allowing this now. apple being more open than MS is just sad.

MS didn’t close the door on 3rd party multitasking, there’s just an approval process they have to go through. Btw, streaming music is an ideal way to drain your battery. I’m just sayin…

Oh I f*ckin’ love SIM cards. Every time I get in a country, I get a *edited*ty phone and a card. I feel all Jason Bourne-like :D Even if the blackberry charges you up the wazoo for international calls, they gots wireless & now Skype (plus the whole bbn thing works). As long as I can send emails with attachments, I’ll just stick to the SIM card in a *edited*ty phone for chit chat.

My little sis has the tour & it’s worked for her in China & Tea Town. What’s the limit on the email attachments? The only fun thing I’d expect is music. I’ll be way too busy to play monkey-in-a-glass-ball

just want to point out (again) that windows mobile 6.5 is ancient and windows phone 7 is not yet released. Thus, you would not be buying a new phone with a windows OS. Android, iOS, webOS, even BBOS are all better options. When windows phone 7 comes out that may change, we will see.

If I built a new computer I could still put Windows 2000 on it. Just because you’ve got an old OS doesn’t mean you can’t put it on new equipment.

One thing MS is doing with WP7 that I wish they’d done from the start with Windows and WP is they’re being very specific about the hardware that the OS can be put on. LG and Motorola can’t just take a POS phone, toss WP7 on it, and sell it, it has to meet what sounds like a pretty demanding set of processor, ram, and memory requirements. If MS would have made HP, Dell, Lenovo, Sony, etc etc ship all their computers with 4GB of ram, a discrete video card, and at least a core2duo, Vista wouldn’t be one of the most hated OS’s of all time. You feed Vista enough ram and all the problems go away. Ok, well most of the problems, anyway.

yes, but why the hell would you want to?

Think of it this way then. If they had never released Vista and you had that long period in between XP and 7, would you have used XP or switched to Mac or Linux?

well since you want to use that comparison, you would also have to realize that when windows 7 did come out, none of my current programs would work on it at all (no backwards compatibility), and that by now windows xp would have had about a .5% market share, i.e. nobody would still make apps for it. given that scenario, yes I would switch because windows would no longer be in charge of the market or support features I want and use. Plus windows hardware would be terrible.

Nickname is just upset that Windows Mobile has almost the same marketshare as Android and has apps he criticised it for not having.

If OS age, features, compatibility, interface, vulnerability, and general usefulness really matter to the average consumer Windows XP wouldn’t still have 63% marketshare. It’s all about perception, pricing, and advertising.

I couldnt tell you the limit on e mail attachments. Usually if its to big the phone will load part of it then when your done reading that part or seeing that picture it will load up the other part.

well all i have to say is if windows mobile is so great why did it see a 33% DROP in market share the past year?

Any blackberry can be used int’lly. Right now you can ask Verizon to unlock it for free, but in the next few months that will change and they will charge per unlocking. Just say you are going to England and you want that Janx unlocked.

Also attachment wise its pretty good. I view PDFs and Docs all the time whenever they are sent to me. It just takes about 5 seconds to download then you can view/save/whatever.

thats a lie, some simply do not have intl capabilities. for example, the bold can be used internationally but the curve 2 cannot as it does not have a sim slot or support international networks.

I’m pretty sure Verizon makes sure their phones aren’t capable of using sim cards. I’ve been with verizon since I was a teen & every phone wasn’t capable of using the card. I’ve only used motorola & LG’s through them but my sister’s Tour couldn’t take a card. They be smart Verizon is

Actually I think the girls with Tours got em through Sprint. But they got the Tour esp. to be int’l (they be from the UAE) so I doubt bberry would sell another version for verizon.
