I’m just looking for progress across the club. I think finally a majority of us are on the same page saying something needs to be done. Maybe this’ll be a new era for WCU Gaming.

I’ll reveal my plan, my idea was to run temporarily to train the new President, my way of doing it would mean whoever ran for VP would be the President after I resign, which will be as quickly as possible for me, as long as I feel like you know what you are doing and have learned everything I can teach you (I won’t have to charge :P), then I see no reason why someone like Kaz-Ka couldn’t run the first and second LAN of the semester, I just have to make sure I get you trained up in the computer and business side of things, whoever it may be, all of this will be announced at the meeting, but again I am only running to train the new guy cause it forces me to still be involved once the new person is ready to go I am gone, well at least not gonna be running things anymore :), will always be there for advice though.

Ah. Well I guess I have a decision to make then. I’m definitely gonna give this some thought.

I feel a little bit concerned that most of the club’s up-and-comers are console gamers. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for expanding the console side of the club, but I don’t see many up-and-coming PC gamers. We shouldn’t let the PC gaming side fall apart.

I actually agree with that statement 100%. Another concern is that the console gamers might not properly keep up with the PC game servers.

I haven’t seen as many new PC people.. probably the reason why there’s no up-and-coming PC people at all. We need to just advertise the club’s existence.. Seriously.

Sure can and if that is the case I will do so, doing it the other way makes me do it faster, only reason I had that idea. I dunno, other than how it ended with Shane and I, I liked the way it was done, kinda like an apprentice thing and it worked very well. If no one agrees then that is fine I will still train the new person it just will take me longer as I will not be as committed to doing it, since time is not as much of the essence. My goal would be to resign way before the first LAN and have the new person ready to go way before then so I can get out of the way and let things move on, otherwise I would prefer taking my time with him defining details I might miss otherwise, I dunno its just a matter of opinion and that is kinda how my schedule works right now, so I leave it to the club, end result for either will be the same.

We did that, sitting at Valleyballyhoo and other things like that to get the clubs name out there, unfortunately the days I did it, some days no one would come, people don’t show up, people don’t care, whatever the case is. Steps were taken but people either were too busy or didn’t care enough to come to the tables and help out. We did our part but it seems too many people prefer single player games, or games like WoW, neither of which we can really support in a PC online gaming environment where we host servers, which is the original idea of the club.

Maybe we should start putting up fliers that say “Join the WCU Gaming Club! Visit wcugaming.org! PC and Console Games!” Something like that. No dates necessary. Just letting people know we are around. Bringing back those gaming desks we used to hold before each LAN might be a good idea too.

Yeah to do that the person running them needs people to show up, I ran those things by myself so many days and it got real old, real fast.

That’s what I’ve been pushing for all along. We just need general info fliers. I’m more likely to read a flier than visit an info table.

If it will make everybody so much happier, I will make some flyers BUT on the condition that people start taking the time to update the homepage more regularly.

Ephraim is on the ball tonight. Another excellent idea.

We really need fresh students to visit the forums (and keep them here via more fun than drama topics ratio).

If we take a look at the forums post, its 99% current admins/staff posting. We have not been bringing in new people to the website in some time (i’m not including people signing up just to post a ban appeal). Just something i’m hoping the new exec staff will see. I do hope advertising the clubs existence on campus will be a on the top 10 do to list for the new staff.

I’ll tell ya something that would be fun, us reaching out to App and try and do a rivals LAN, which Dell failed to do. That would be fun and more than likely draw in a huge crowd.

*reads up on the history of the thread*…

    0_0…

    mmkay… a few things i picked out, to summarize…

Due to snow and a collection of other circumstances (all qualified reasons for not convening) there was no meeting… and ppl are angry with Bitey?… and we’re trying to figure out why no new recruits…

yeah, snow and other things mentioned definitely do happen, and get in the way. +1 to the Club if the meeting were to be rescheduled.

ppl are angry with Bitey about no meeting, or something of that nature? c’mon people, life happens from time to time, and mother nature gets cranky sometimes too. I think that should be a non-topic for anger

    and no new recruits….

    *thinks*

yeah, that one’s always one that will come back to bite you in the keester. I would actually point some fair share of the blame to the new freshman class restrictions, like living in scott dorm and all. without the ability to mingle, they truly are isolated from the rest of the student body, especially considering a majority of the freshman class is divisible into a few common source schools, which means that when isolated as much as they are already, they will deepen the rift and stay in the groups they were back in the high school days. considering those two factors, recruiting’s going to be a tough sell. to really pick up those groups, you may have to investigate how to make yourself visible to the freshman body. that’s less of a club factor and more an environmental effect.

also, just prodding, you’ll need to extend the knowledge to the new recruits that especially if they don’t see their preference of game in our current lineup, they need to lobby for their favorite(s). I speak that one from first-hand experience… coming out of high school I was a fan of things built around the quake-model engines – unreal tournament being the most obvious. when I spoke up, I actually found support, and thus a new member was forged. I REALLY wasn’t a fan of anything built around Valve software. (TBH I still despise Valve and all its new minions on steam). but, after the original draw for UT, then I dabbled a bit in cs:s and found that that community actually made the game bearable, even pleasant. and thus, some time later, a cs:s CL was forged. etc etc.

follow that logic, that we have to find some access point to the freshman body, and that we have to really show them that if they don’t see something they play that they can still get a stake in the club, and you’ll really blow the doors open on a new Club body.

btw, when y’all get that meeting rescheduled and all, post it and i’ll keep posted on when to expect a LAN… peace!

People are angry because this was the 2nd cancelled meeting. If we don’t have one LIKE NOW, there won’t be enough time to properly advertise and get sponsors lined up.

I don’t think this is entirely Bitey’s fault but we could have had the meeting and LAN dates set before the break.

Is Jill the ONLY person that can give us a room and if so can we get somewhere else? Central and Norton both have rooms large enough for us and anything is better than nothing.

Jill is only person to get space set in the UC, other buildings would require just access to the room, permission from the RD and someone there to let us in. I am thinking on Friday as that is the best day I can do it, so tomorrow is the decider if I can AGAIN not get in touch with Jill then I think we should just convene at Central as KazKa first suggested.
