    nodice, good question…

    I wouldn’t have changed anything except the hegrenade, knife, awp, autosnipe.

    hegrenade and knife – not enough pts for those kills and these are good changes imo

    awp – i agree completely with brian and lucky7, I think if the server had a limit 1 – it would be 1pt – but since it’s free reign it should be docked, but I don’t agree that when someone gets 5 awp kills in 1 rnd, he should only get 10 pts? I agree it should be somewhere in the .4-.5 range, though it is still a 1 kill weapon mainly.

    I would keep the subs the same as they were at 1, same as the rifles, and the shotties – all weapons in basically the same power and/or rate of fire category

    Pistols stay at 1.2, though you can 1shot kill with a few pistols, they still only have a small slip and short effective range, plus there is no spray involved with them.

    Para, while obviously not in the smg/rifle/shotgun category with rate of fire and power, still costs a buttload, and is a 1pt modifier gun imo

    EDIT – forgot the autosnipe, but I dont’ think I should have to reason that

    Now this next statement is also in reply to nodice’s question – If I had a server the only reason I would lower a weapons point value is because it was specifically being taken advantage of by a majority of the server and needed nerfing. example… everyone saved up every rnd till they could get a para and 100 bullet clip? it’d be para wars, kinda ruining things… But the checks and balances with all the guns basically keep everything in check(after wasting 15k on paras and dying to an awp/m4/etc everytime, it’s not worth it), imo.

    If you want I can post a demo with showimpacts on to show that the accuracy does not change and in some cases actually goes up when you jump. I would have been more comfortable at .9 but many of the other admins had wanted it lower than .8 even, it was a compromise and I really doubt it will affect very many people.

    Get as many kills as you want. We are not discriminating against popular weapons. Otherwise the m4 and ak would be lower.

    #26410

    i think CS:S should only have 1 knife 1 pistol and 1 rifle.

    knife = 3 points

    pistol = 2 points

    rifle = 1 point

    A awp is a noob weapon cause you cant use one zoso. Thats the only people u ever hear complain bout a awp is the people that cant kill someone with it or be affective. As far as the points thing goes i dont buy a weapon based on how many points i get with it if i kill someone. I buy a weapon cause i enjoy using that weapon and enjoy killing :). i can see the reasoning behind most of the point mod’s…kinda like pink said but i don’t think that you should make the shottie .8, thats imo becuz any gun takes skill to be good with…they all have their own pluses and minuses

    for instance..the ak is better at long range than the m4, straight fact

    while at close range…nothing beats the shottie..and nothing should

    other than the shottie modifier…i like the new point system, it makes you want to use guns that have higher modifiers almost…maybe there will be a ump master sometime soon…/laughsoutloud…

    Shottie, Para… P90, Deagle even the awps, are situational weapons. The points really should’ve been aimed more at evening the usage between Main weapons and these situational ones.

    As many games use classes to increase the variety of play, CS has always had its select variety of weaponary. I think a few of the .mod scores are a touch on the harsh side (and could be brought closer to being inline with the 1pt mark if not relinquished), more so to do with opinion than with the actual unbias facts.

    Although I’m not going to be restricted into only using higher point .mod weaponary, this very fact makes the changes seem to be reasoned to lower the ability of players who bring such colour and variety to the server to be seen to perform well. It really doesn’t accomplish more than that.

    I’ve done a lot of websearching the past few days and have read no mention about the unbalancing effect of shotgun aim (not that it doesnt have decent aim, but it seems the gun is balanced to Valves standards and could easily be reasoned as shotguns are a point a shoot weapon and the skill in their use ‘can’ be more about positioning than overly well aimed shots), or the constant overkill caused by a P90. The only weapons that get grief are sniper rifles, its only here that people seem to want to criminalize the high point scoring potential (only met by less than 1% of the server, and sometimes only under certain conditions) that some guns afford. This means while excelling players will no longer have overly high scores with certain guns, average players will find it very difficult for those guns to be anywhere near as effective point wise as the standard rifles.

    We already go through AK vs M4 wars nearly for the majority of every game, and that type of stale gameplay isn’t something that really should be aspired to.

    Hmmmm I’m sorry you don’t see the reasoning for the changes very well. They were all well argued in the first place. Let me expound upon them a bit if I may.

    First off, what I don’t believe was made known very was that the point ceiling has been raised to 15, this may not seem like lot for some of the newer folks, but if you had played here earlier this year when we first went to this point system and it was 25 then 15 would now seem like the most reasonable spot for em after having them at 10 for so long. The latter was a rather impotent maximum.

    Secondly pink, if you look actually look at the modifier we left the most used guns on the server (Ak, M4, Deagle, Scout) at 1.0 since they were the standard and deviating from there could potentially upset the point balance and the standard dynamics of the pub which work quite well as Flakes has tried to defend numerous times towards people who I think maybe having a Devil’s Advocate running in their veins, as helpful as that can be, it isn’t always the most honestly helpful way to make an argument.

    Third the smgs were bumped because I’m *edited* sure you have all punched you monitor so hard as to make it rock back and forth, slapped your mouse down, or kicked the wall behind your desk when you do 86 in 8 with a tmp or mp5navy, or heaven forbid 12 in 99 as some of my pics can attest. I’m positive that we rightly reasoned here that SMG kills by the TMP, MP5, MAC10 should be raised a bit. Because they are so cheap and precisely because we wanted more variety in rifle choice in the server, we put them above the rifles like the ak, m4, krieg, and bullpup, but below the more difficult and stringent rifles like the Famas and Galil. Those three SMGs I mentioned are all at 1.1, the latter two rifles at 1.2 because they cost a bit more than for what is a noob, an equally effective gun found in the SMGs. The UMP was put at 1.3 because at 1700 dollars and 25 bullets it is plain and simple *edited*. The P90 was bumped down to .85 because it has a 50 round clip, a safe rate of fire(meaning that a noob isn’t likely to exhaust it too quickly and be *edited* out of luck like with the famas which has the absolute highest rate of fire in the game), and a hell of a recoil. In a way it has been staggered like the Para,which has been brough down to .8 btw, because we want it to have a diminished returns effect when it comes to people using it on those weapon’s most popular map, cs_office, there these weapon are stupidly *edited*ing effective because some people have a very long delay when seeing someone and reacting, a lot of you in fact. One more thing about those two weapons, they don’t really have the kind of spray pattern like the m4 and Ak where learning it helps you with all guns, so in a way we aren’t punishing noobs here, we are helping them inadvertantly, in fact the other guns that are rarer in use and more likely to benefit them have indeed been raised as I mentioned earlier.

    Other weapons that have what may apparent to be a silly modifier are also MUCH rarer in use, check the flash bang kills, there have been 5 out of 177000, those odds are ridiculous and we almost feel like a huge 100 point bonus would be more appropriate.

    The knife has been upped to contrast better with its natural counter part on this server, the scout. Many people curse the heavens when trying to knife someone in SK only to have them refuse to do so likewise and return their futile appeals with a bullet to the face. The knife is at 2.0, just as well I think it should be rather costly if someone gets their noob *edited* waxxed by some silly *edited* like Bracket, who had 29 knifings on saturday. That kind of effort should rightly pay off. HE Grenades were upped a bit since we had lowered the warmup round a bit and thusly made them more rare as people most often ran for the quicker knife there.

    As for you charge that this *edited*s players of the more colorful variety, just no. The weapons at .80 are reasonably lowered, if you want I can bring in my test demo to show how the accuracy of the pump shotty does not diminish one *edited* iota when jumping and in fact gets higher at times, combined with being cheaper than the other shotty and a lot more powerful and effective for anyone with an intellect exceeding the third grade I think it is at a reasonable place for its effectiveness. It is largely to contrast with the other shotty, where yall talk about having some variety don’t seem to want to show much love to that piece of *edited*. Really, I ask you guys, where is the bottom line then?

    I hope this helps pink, though I really think your estimate that these weren’t thought out or that they had rather superficial motives behind them is way off mark. Thanks for you input though, that’s more than I can say for a good portion of the community from whom I would love to have some more feedback.

    FINAL EDIT: There it is folks, the demo I took of the shotty, taking into account the dynamics of it, it really physically speaking should not have a huge spray when jumping like the ak does, the grouping of the pellets in real life will still be rather close if not affected somewhat by the inertia at the tip of the barrel, if you want to make it more realistic for the game then an accurate reflection of what goes on when jumping and shotting a shotgun should be something like the awp where the single shot is way of the center of the recticle if you are moving as well as moving you haphazardly through the air and leaving you staggered when landing. Also forgive me if this post has been rather curt and pointed, I don’t get up this early usually, but UPS has to be a bunch of faggots about my headphones.

    I’m sorry, do you know me? I’ve played sniper through SOF, SOF2, MOHAA, COD, COD2, RTCW and DOD:S and I am very effective with a kar98 and a springfield, don’t come in here acting like I can’t use a sniper. The AWP is simply overpowered and ridiculously easy to hit someone with. Take a Kar98 from DOD:S place it into CS:S in place of the AWP and see how many of you retards continue to use it. None of you would. The reason I do not use an AWP in CS:S is because it produces zero fun. I love watching all of you cry when you get shot by the boomstick. Don’t worry though, I’ll be gone when TF2 comes out.

    Just because you’ve used a different sniper in each different game doesn’t mean you’re good with using a sniper rifle in all games. All of the games listed above are of much different play style and use different code. More than likely the reason why you hate the awp is that you’re used to a play-style that doesn’t have the sniper sitting around waiting in certain areas but has it move up with each opposing force (since most of the games you listed are more CTF and KoTH styles) and pick off anyone that tries to take on your frontal assault. You do not like just sitting around, you’re the type that HAS to run around and rush no matter what and thusly an AWP is a bad choice, meanwhile the shotgun is a perfect choice because you can jump and shoot with accuracy, turn a corner and instantly kill someone, and pick them off from a distance while still killing them in only one shot. I am not going to say “the awp is fun” because a person can get much enjoyment and fun with any gun. You don’t find the awp fun for your reasons and I don’t find the shotgun fun because I find the gun way too easy to kill people with and it causes a player to change the way they play to adjust to the “easier” style, in my opinion.

    Also, I’ve played my share of FPS and have used a sniper in plenty of them and in plenty of the situations. Comparing the AWP to a Kar or Springfield is absurd as DoD, DoD:S, and other WWII shooters enable the user to be in prone and account for simulated breathing, hence forcing a player to crouch or be in prone to get a steady shot off.

    Brian Excellent post, I have a few questions about the physics raised about the shotgun though. In my time using the shotgun i’ve never thought about the physics or aspects of it, just kinda had fun with it. I think we should all get up at 430 am saturday b4 the lan and go hunting. After everyone’s shot a shotgun they’ll be more understanding. Like you said regardless of what’s happening to the gun motion-wise, the pellet spray will be the same, unless of course it’s bracket sticking quarters into the barrel again…

    I think the real reason the shotgun is so effective regardless is because that circle of pellets never changes, because it shouldn’t. You know that no matter if your falling,swimming,running, whatever, you will always have that circle of pellets, no bigger, no smaller, except at distances for obvious reasons.

    Now this said, it gives you a greater margin of error while jumping and shooting(running, etc.) than say if you were trying to place one bullet. The downfall is that one measly pellet can’t kill, you need the vast majority. I haven’t seen your video, but I’m not debating the accuracy. I’m saying going strictly by the odds, I’d rather be in a bad position and shoot many bullets, not just one. – When you were a kid throwing rocks at something… after like 4 you couldn’t hit it… you picked up a handfull of rocks and threw them and you hit it… cause of the odds. Makes sense.

    The downfalls to this margin of error are reload time(individually), clip size, and range.

    Range brings me to my next point, I love when people yell about getting 1hitted from the other side of the map. Watch any shotty player, they strafe and shoot maybe 6-8 times to kill someone from far. Cause you can’t get every pellet to hit from over a certain distance, it’s impossible unless your target is say – red barn. What they don’t realize is that when they have 50 hp left, running to defuse on d2 and turn the corner on longA – it’s not a hard 2 shot with a shotty, maybe even a 1(distance isn’t that far if they’re charging the corner).

    As you can see not once have I mentioned the point modifiers, I’m happy you guys reasoned your answers and understand your choices, thank you. Also when is the cap going to 15 instead of 10?

    True that it is a different play when only one on a team can use the sniper, but simply because the sniper in DoD:S, etc can also 1-shot you. The AWP is a .50calibur gun, anything hit with a .50calibur bullet will be left in pretty terrible shape, especially torso and up. Leg shots do 87, 79, etc damage and don’t kill. Same with being hit in the arm on most shots.

    Now might be a good time to round the topic off with an “I’m right – you’re wrong” statement? No, this isn’t trolling, just a serious anticipation based on past experience.
