Spectatoraverage 80-100 people alsways seem to make the LAN, and on average we get 10-15 people at the meeting…
if they alsways make one and not the other when the obviously don’t care,, i say Ef’Em

SpectatorI can see where your coming from Dice but honestly most of the people I talked to that normally do show up to the meetings didnt even know we were having one. I think we should try to advertise the meeting more instead of just posting about it on the forums.

We cannot speak for people that don’t come to the meetings that may play at the LAN. Only vote for games you will play, and we will not end up in this mess. Noone can be the judge of people that potentially come to the LANs, so stop trying. If you believe we need a different perspective on game selection, we need more people to come to our meetings – not trying to vote what you think they want.Honestly, I could care less about playing Brawl, SCIV, or Call of Duty 4. But I still vote for those games. Why? Because I know a ton of people come for those games and I know people that play them. But again, if we follow the same methodology that the club is there to serve us and should fit our whims and needs, then our prosperity will come to an end very soon. The club will kill itself over everyone’s wants and desires clashing with one another. For us to see progression, we need people to think how they can best serve the club and not the other way around.

SpectatorWould somebody make a thread about the costume contest? I’ll do it if nobody else wants to.

SpectatorBasically, a PC gamer knows what games are being played in tournaments currently. It isn’t a guessing game. If we want to attract people to WCU through our club then it only makes sense to look at what the largest number of people are playing ‘at the time’ across the nation. For PC’s this isn’t difficult because it is obvious what games are huge and the selection one has to wade through isn’t nearly as large.
Just because you are tired of playing a certain game, doesn’t mean that people who go to those kinds of events (LAN Tournaments) are tired of them. Since technically what we host is a LAN tournament, we should focus on games that people who frequent those events are playing currently.

Spectatorhonestly i think the LANs should be what will bring the most people to play it. People who play most PC games are going to play PC games, people who play mostly console will play console games at the tourney. So both sides know what will make good tournies at the LAN so instead of voting why dont we have a discussion on what we think would make for a good LAN instead of having people vote on things that they might like but not play at all. PC gamers should have TF2, COD4 and Counterstrike b/c thats what people like. Consoles should have Halo 3, Smash, Gears of War, SC4 and COD4. Now im not saying wii bowling and mario kart arent amazing, they are but comming from a person who has been to many LANs and tournaments these are what will bring people. honestly how many people do you know would see a sign for a Wii bowling tournament and take time out of their day to come and pay 5 dollars and play it? If you want to make the gaming club and the LANs a success play games that appeal to people competitvely and build up the a section for Free play so casual gamers can come and play as well.
We should stop all this stupid fighting about consoles vs PCs and just talk to eachother about what would make the LAN the best it can be.

SpectatorEh, I’ve been saying this for awhile now. But every time say the word competitive, tons of people go.. “Well we aren’t competitive at all. Competition = bad.” Or something of that equivalent. And by tons, I mean several people of that are firmly planted in this community.

. This is why I believe we need a competitive LAN and a Non-Competitive LAN. You could do a lot of really fun *edited* in a non-competitive LAN that just doesn’t fit in competition.October 30, 2008 at 11:09 am #61460Oh Malley
SpectatorExactly. I think that idea would fit well especially if we go to four LANs a semester. Just alternate between the two styles. This way it gives plenty of time to accumulate funds for cash prizes at the competitive tournaments. And then you could give out a variety of door prizes at the non-competitive LAN. Honestly, the non-competitive LAN could just be organized freeplay with a few “tournaments” if people wanted to organize them.
By having a definite focus of atmosphere at each LAN, surely both types of LANs will grow and prosper in size.
October 30, 2008 at 12:46 pm #61485Bitey
SpectatorI just fear chaos with the other non-competitive LAN it is my only fear I guess with this thing, but I think we will give it a shot next semester, at least that is what I would like to do.
October 30, 2008 at 12:59 pm #61488Oh Malley
SpectatorI think if you just structure it like you were going to have tournaments have big block times saying.. “Okay guys.. We’re gonna play some CS:Source” or whatever. Console guys can easily monitor this with plenty of leadership making sure everybody gets a turn.
October 30, 2008 at 3:06 pm #61514ExiLe
Spectatorgreat idea mike. I hope we start making improvements in the gameclub like this to make it what it should be.
October 30, 2008 at 4:27 pm #61524MajorMajorMajor
Spectatormayb if u had a 2 day lan, and each day u did 4 tournys (2 console, 2 PC) and the rest of the time you have organized fun time with other games where people can just come and play a game without the fear of sucking too bad. I kno that if i went to the LAN and there were all these talks of competition i might steer clear because i prefer to *edited* around than try to be all competitive like.
