SpectatorIf noise is a problem you could tell them to settle down. The PS3 PEOPLE were so loud we could hear them better than the PC game WITH headphones on the farthest PC tables. I’m all about getting into your game but there’s really no need to be that loud.
I do find it odd that people with headphones can hear the announcements but people without them can’t. That should tell you something about TV volume. Maybe a solution is to seperate the tournaments farther apart but one quick fix is to just keep all of them lower. You’re 2 feet from the TV after all.
I think having the stage removed is a good idea as that could instantly double the console section. Doubling their space for free is a much better idea than doubling the overhead required to host the event by having it in 2 rooms/days. If you want them in 2 rooms they need to be on the same day and actually follow the predefined tournament times. That way when the MP room attracts people they can send the PC gamers upstairs and vice versa.

SpectatorHonestly, I would love to see a Tekken 5 DR tournament for PS3. Also Soul Calibur IV would be a great idea too, again another great fighting game. Agree with me or not but I believe that we need more fighting games at these LANs and these are two great fighting games.

SpectatorI think we should wait as long as possible before splitting the LAN into two rooms. Not only would it make things confusing, but it would send the message that the Gaming Club is divided. We don’t want people thinking that one side of the club is trying to eat the other.

Hell, a PS3 tourney would be nice to slip in there. But, interest aside, the ability to play the game at the tourney is important.
TV’s, PS3’s, and ample copies of the particular games really, really important.

SpectatorI’ve pushed fighting games and other games in the past, but it’s a matter of vote of who shows up to meetings when we decide the games. It’s also up to the console leadership if they want to have their own meetings to decide what will draw the best crowd as well as have sufficient equipment for.

July 6, 2008 at 10:12 pm #50486Ephraim
SpectatorPersonally, I never really cared for the console meetings. Most of the issues discussed at the get-togethers could easily be handled at the general meetings and there is not enough sense of community on the console side of things to get people to go. It also promotes a sense of competition between the two sides of the club.

SpectatorI do have those two games (well i WILL have SC IV when it comes out) and I do know others on campus that do to, so I will definitly be at the next meeting to push for these two games. Also, what has to happen for someone to be appointed for running a tournament at the LANs cause I would LOVE to run the Brawl tournament. Dont get me wrong though, Shay did a great job, but I would love to do this since Im heading up the Smashn Saturday events.
July 7, 2008 at 5:33 am #50523Cacophony
SpectatorI imagine we’re going to be doing the same thing, voting for a Console Pres and VP (unless somethings changing that I’m not aware of). So, if you officially wanted to run Smash you’d have to run for either of those, but you’d also have to do other stuff besides smash. That, or volunteer to help run smash to the Pres and VP. I personally know help is appreciated, though I kept to everything other than Nintendo as VP since I not very familiar with those tourneys overall.
Shae has helped run the last few, actually, because she’s very familiar with various Smash tourney rules and what not from past experience. So, you’d be talking to her about that if she stays on I imagine.
July 7, 2008 at 12:55 pm #50550FTE Kaz-Ka
SpectatorAlright, guess Ill run for one of the two then.
July 7, 2008 at 4:53 pm #50581Bitey
SpectatorYep run or volunteer, Console P and VP are allowed to appoint Council Leaders to help them run tournaments at the LANs.
Also I do hate that there is a sort of separation between PC gamers and Console gamers, what we all need to remember is we all definitely have at least one thing in common.
We all love to play games. We are practically brothers, now stop hating.
July 7, 2008 at 5:30 pm #50594Ephraim
SpectatorWho was hating?
I didn’t know that there would be a new election for Console President. Thought Shae would get both of Oh Malley’s terms. If that’s not the case, I also plan to run for CP or VP. Guess there will be a little friendly competition.
The war machines have begun their violent operations.
jk
July 7, 2008 at 5:41 pm #50595Cacophony
SpectatorWe have new elections every semester, no?
Either way, I know I plan to run again. I like the position and now that I’ve done it once I have a lot more I want try.

It’d be easier and build the community, methinks.

We have new elections every semester, no?Yes, but I was under the impression that the Console President is elected for a two-semester term, like the President. When Oh Malley resigned, I thought Shae would be given both the end of his first semester and his second semester.
July 7, 2008 at 7:19 pm #50605Bitey
SpectatorPresident of the club is the only position that holds for a year. AKA two-semester term.
July 7, 2008 at 7:57 pm #50610FTE Kaz-Ka
SpectatorQuick question, and I know this might sound dumb but what does someone have to do to run for Console Pres./VP and is it Console Specific or is it for all of them?
July 7, 2008 at 9:11 pm #50634Ephraim
SpectatorShow up at the election and run. You can be nominated by someone else or nominate yourself. It’s not console specific; just two positions.
July 7, 2008 at 9:51 pm #50646FTE Kaz-Ka
Spectatorah ok. Ill definitly show up then
July 8, 2008 at 3:19 am #50674Cacophony
SpectatorIt’s not console specific, but the way Shae and I ran it was based on what we knew best. She covered Nintendo games when it came down to LAN time and I ran the 360 tourneys.

Yeah. I agree.
At the same time though, our console community is very much fragmented as compared to the PC crowd. When System Link actually worked, there was pretty much one universal large community of console gamers. With the V-LANs in place, it also separated the community because we simply couldn’t play with one another. The PC guys have their servers to meet each other. It’s by random chance that a console gamer meet up with another and even then it’s pretty much limited to clusters of gamers sectioned off by dorms.
And Mitch, for the record, the guys who attended the console meetings were the ones who put forth the effort at the LAN to make it that much better. We still had roughly 10-11 people and got some good dialog going for various ideas, game selection, the one mini-LAN we put together, and other stuff.
July 9, 2008 at 9:30 pm #50820Bitey
SpectatorI wish we could somehow create a server for you all, but with the way consoles have gone it makes it pretty much impossible

My point was simply that if they aren’t able/willing to show for one night why would they do it on another.

Btw, I thought we were going to talk to networking about getting the System Link ports reopened…

Spectatori vote someone start a thread for strong powerfull reasons why system link should be opened.
and some logical run-a-rounds for their reasons why they closed it. (i’m sure some of you know theirs reasons why they closed it)
i’m pretty sure if you just go up their and ask them to be opened we will get a firm no. If we go up their to discuss reasons why it should be opened, and reason with them its actually might be a possibility.
if/when system link opens up, the consul section is going to “full moon kaboom”. when halo 1 came out and system link was open its was retarded how may people played.
July 12, 2008 at 4:50 pm #51087Cacophony
SpectatorAgreed, System Link my freshman year was one of the most incredible things I’ve ever seen. Also, one of the most fun. It even dragged me to a halo tourney in the UC, something I wouldnt have done it I hadnt been playing on System Link so much that year.
If someone doesnt beat me too it, I’ll whip a thread up a little later.

If there aren’t any known threats with the ports they can, and usually do, reopen them upon request and proof of need. I’ve had about 16 ports opened over the last two years by doing nothing more than asking.

I though we knew why they closed them. ????
