SpectatorSince, as they are so apt to do these days, the executives locked yet another good discussion thread, use this one to post what you feel needs to be changed to better serve the console community. We can go until they lock it again.

SpectatorI’m done arguing with consoles. If they want to fail or not go by the set rules, that’s their decision. I’ll hook up your power and be on my merry way.

SpectatorMy only request is that they talk with Bitey/DeviantSyntax before making huge changes, and perhaps make sure they are familiar with the club’s constitution.
September 14, 2008 at 8:58 pm #56490ExiLe
Spectatorthat really was. basically console and PC gamers are pretty dif so they both will have issues. in the end we need to get over it and just work on what we need to improve on both. like there might be some anamocity between them both but the decisions that were made at the meeting werent like “lets see what we can do to *edited* off all the PC gamers” we talked it out and voted. <3

SpectatorI wish I could’ve replied to the other then when it was still open.
When I was console president, I did voice the issues of lack of space and power to the executives. I was told that a new layout would be done before the LAN and I would be contacted to help get what I thought the console section would need. This never happened. So do not use the excuse of us not voicing our opinions and concerns. Who else do you think suggested moving the prize tables up to the stage so we actually had more room on the floor?
I have invested enough of my own personal manpower to build the console community to what it is now. Why else do you think Shane nominated me for the position just after I joined the club only 2 months prior? Everything I have done has been for the benefit and the longevity of the console community and the Gaming Club in general. I set up the CP and CVP positions because I knew I wasn’t going to be around much longer and I needed to establish the positions for new people to be trained and distinguished as the leadership of the console community. I have my other concerns which I leave with the executives, rather than posting some rant or cautionary post on the forums because I trust that the executives will do it and rather than having some mass revolt or mob do it for me. With every decision I make, what I choose to vote for, against, or abstain is a direct reflection of what I believe is best for the Gaming Club to continue to grow and expand.

SpectatorI mean like what do consoles need? A different room, a different part of our current room? Headsets for the tvs/consoles…etc etc.
September 14, 2008 at 9:19 pm #56494Oh Malley
SpectatorWe need sufficient space (for people to move and play) and an access to the power supply. Headsets would be nice assuming the average gamer could actually afford the Turtle Beach headsets. The sound issue we can’t resolve. As far as the massive sound output from RB and all that, we can limit what can is used and how high volume can be turned. If we had standard TVs that all had headphone jacks, then that would be different, but we’re at the mercy at what people can bring.
If that’s not satisfactory, then move us to a different room. If you want to play both, then move it to a different day. Yes, they have their consequences and other issues to resolve. People have to compromise somewhere.
Honestly, I think the LANs themselves need to be carried out differently, but I’ve already voiced my ideas to the P and VP.

Spectatorhow much space do you all need?
would twice the room and # of tables of last event be enough?
September 14, 2008 at 9:56 pm #56499Oh Malley
SpectatorDoubling the space might be enough. And not necessarily having more tables, but having the overall table layout changed somewhat would be better. Another thing is to consider is projector placement and what games will be on those projectors. Ideally, we want RB far away from the welcome table AND the PC core. The other projector areas need to be placed well enough apart from each other and with a least a decent sized bubble from major traffic areas. A mock set-up would have to be done. If it can’t be done in time, or have something agreed upon, before the next LAN, then there should be a team of us going around during the LAN making notes and suggestions.
September 14, 2008 at 10:02 pm #56500Phonetically Phamous (dice
SpectatorTo make more space for consul. And this also adds more wall space for projectors… Its not hard at all to bump where the current power box sits for the PC area back more twards the center of the room. The cable will easly extend another 20feet.
We can make the UC fold up that collapsible stage, should not be any fees added.
By doing both of the above the Consul area just easly doubled. with no affect on the PC area.
Attached is my 15 second MS Paint sketch of what this looks like on paper. (note, its not to scale, lol, but the # of tables will easly fit.)
The red, dotted line is where the stage “used to be” We can ask for it to be folded back
The gray area is where the projectors can go.
arrange your tables in the space how you please.
September 14, 2008 at 10:06 pm #56502Phonetically Phamous (dice
SpectatorSketch us up something on how you would like to see it layed out. The way it has been set up in the past, their has been plenty of waistfull space. And remember if the UC sets it up one way, we can alsways go in their early and move tables around to get it just right… i strongly believe their is is enough space as long as we get them to fold up the stage. do you all think so?
September 14, 2008 at 10:17 pm #56506Oh Malley
SpectatorHonestly, I need to see the room. If you guys want to go there and see about working on the layout together, then by all means, I’ll give you my cell number and try to be there. There are windows and whatever doors they have in the room to account for projector space. And of course, tables can be moved, cables can be extended easily. Also, would it help if the welcome table was actually outside the Grandroom?

If you see the PC section with an empty table and need it, tell Bitey and he’ll give it to you.

How about some console execs show up at 9-10 while we are moving all the tables and setting up so we can decide then how best to use what we have. We can draw pictures and pre-plan all we want but the truth is we really have no idea what the UC is going to give us as it’s different almost every time.

They have had the same slip with the lay out and # of tables and power cords needed for 8 lans. and every time we get different numbers of everything.
Getting their early is key. this does not mean dont sketch up your floor plans. Summit your ideas just so everyone can be on the same page walkin in, in the morning.
September 14, 2008 at 10:31 pm #56514Oh Malley
SpectatorKip, I know that was already resolved. I made sure it was resolved well before this conversation ever got around. I actually talk to the executives. And generally, our core console guys do show up early as it is. So don’t worry about that. We’ll make room for us this LAN.

SpectatorI could not make it to the console meeting because of unavoidable prior engagements, but after this long conversation I’m a little glad i didn’t. First of all on the issue of replacing games that were voted on. that just didn’t need to happen. adding games to the list is fine but the exclusion of Wii Bowling as a tournament was a mistake. but that topic is long dead and has been kicked half to hell. on the topic of the surveys the best time for handing out those is just after the pizza arrives so people have a little time to do it before the next game starts (don’t make it mandatory). on the issue of space for the past 2 or 3 lans i get there several hours early to help set up as do several other console players. if you have an issue with space come help set up; please we can always use the help. that way no one can groan about it. if ive missed anything please let me know and i will adress it.

SpectatorI do find it funny however, that there was ample warning that the game replacement would be discussed. It’s tentative topic number two listed for the console meeting announcement.

The impression that was given from posts and announcements was that you were going to decide settings, layouts, and brackets. Had you said you were going to change games I can guarantee you’d have had more people there.

SpectatorThis is directly from the front page just to clarify the current argument. I’ve indicated the line in question with **********.
“Shingi will be holding the first console meeting of the semester this Friday in the Cat’s Den at 8 p.m. The purpose of this meeting will asses where we stand as far as what free play will go on at the LAN’s and also other events that we can possible hold. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come as we need plenty of opinions so that we can get a better grasp as to what steps we take next in the console development in the community.
Tentative Topics:
1. Free play games.
2. Possible additions to the tourneys or replacement.*********
3. Volunteer’s to help at the LAN’s.
4. Community involvement.
5. Tournament setup.
6. Any other ideas people might have.
As for the locations I know some of you wanted to do it in the UC seeing as how it’s the focal point of campus but the majority of the people that usually attend the console meetings live on the upper part of campus so I pick the Cat’s Den/ Brown. We look forward to seeing people there and can’t wait to get the ball rolling on this.”

SpectatorJust as a little addition to this, no games were technically changed, there were several ties and I left it up to Shingi and Kaz-Ka to make a decision on how to handle those ties between games, the two games that were tied were Mario Kart Wii and Guitar Hero 3. They made their decision and did basically exactly what I told them to do, I am pretty proud of what they did. They saw an issue with the amount of games available for Mario Kart and acted on it.

Spectatortheir was a tie? ROFLmajackulation,, if that was stated early on, their never would been this whole ordeal going on. GG

SpectatorThat is why I posted lol, I had noticed that this had never even been brought up.
I think the root of the problem was a lot of pent up frustration with some people, and this allowed them a venue to let it out, /shrug. I am glad they got it out of their system, we still are going to run the LAN as we normally would for now.

Spectatoractually, wii bowling and mario kart wii tied with 16 votes apiece, GH3 had 15 votes, Rainbow 6 vegas had 15 votes, and SC3 had 14 votes.

SpectatorOh I see the issue, consoles opted to do 6 tournaments instead of 5, they realize that this means some of their tournaments will have to be played at the same time as others, so the decision was made to not do Mario Kart Wii since there is a lack of people who own the game, but we know for a fact that many people own GH3, we based this on the amount of people that were in the tournament last time. Also the normal difficulty will be on hard and only if the two players agree will it be upped to expert, the final round will be expert regardless. I think this works just fine and seeing how GH3 was successful in the past confirms to me that this was the right choice, Mario Kart Wii is still unsure, it will be available for Free Play lets see how it does there.
