    – Chinese, Russian, Japanese, American, and North Korean police officers gather and decide to assess their investigative capacity.

Under the watchful eye of their supervisors, each team gets a mouse, then lets it loose, and the mouse runs up a big mountain.

The winning team is the one that manages to catch and bring back the mouse in the shortest time.

The Chinese police employ human wave tactics, combing every square inch on the mountain in their thousands.

They capture and return the mouse after only one day’s search.

The Japanese policemen use a smell detector, and after only half a day, they detect the mouse hole, search it, catch the mouse and bring it back.

The Russian cops send a robot equipped with a heat-seeking device up the mountain.

The robot locates all the mammals on the mountain and after only three hours the Russians capture and bring back the mouse.

The only ones left now are the American and North Korean police officers.

The Americans use a satellite signal device to locate the mouse, and then send in a mechanical gadget that looks like a snake gliding up the mountain.

The gadget gets into the mouse hole, catches the mouse and brings it back after only one hour.

    The North Koreans are last.

Although the supervisors are watching, none of them makes a move, there is no brainstorming, and no one comes up with a plan of action, nothing at all.

After only about 10 minutes, a few North Korean police officers show up dragging a dog before the supervisors, saying they’ve found the mouse.

All the supervisors are puzzled: “What are you doing? It is not a dog you were supposed to catch! Weren’t you supposed to catch a mouse?”

Instead of answering, the North Korean cops drag the dog through the dirt and repeatedly kick it in the ribs.

The sobbing dog suddenly starts to talk: “Stop, stop, please stop! Yes, I confess, I’m a mouse! I’m a mouse, please concede that I’m a mouse, or else they’re going to kill me!”

Meh I have some pretty weird thoughts about marriage. Never thought about it until this year, but marriage just seems like a way for people to “legitimize” their relationship. I mean I know there are tax benefits and hospital visiting rights that go along with it, but other than that, before marriage and after marriage nothing changes in the relationship. You should still love each other and care about each other. Yea you made “vows” but shouldn’t those vows be implied already in the relationship. You truly love someone you will be faithful, loving, and caring. You don’t need a label.

Except I *edited*ing love weddings. The ceremony telling each other that they will love each other forever followed by unholy amounts of drinking and gluttony with this happy undertone. Best event ever.

I get to be a groomsman for my BFF Brian in June. Mucho excited.

    avatar gone?

My avatar tells me whether or not my website is down. My webhost decided it was time to upgrade the server I’m on. They said they were going to do it 10 months ago.

They’ve got like 30 accounts on it, each with at least 200GB of webspace, and the server has a 100GB hard drive. When you inquire as to the logic behind that they put a hold on your account, claim you’re using the space for file storage, and make you delete like half your files. When you complain on their forums about their outsourced tech support they publicly list the files that were “too big” and ask why you have them. You then get a good trolling by 30 people saying you’re either wrong about the server’s HD side, wrong about the ToS agreement, or they lol at your for trying to upload a 10GB virtual hard drive.

It’s also going to take “4-8 hours” to transfer that 100GB hard drive to another server. Personally I think they’re doing it wrong but that’s just me.

so much meaning in such a small gif

    A glimmer of hope.

I stumbled across FBReader, a linux free application that works with most ebook formats. Couple of upsides, I could add any book regardless of company or format, but I would either have to download them illegally or purchase them and find a way to break the security on the file for viewing.

I would also have to find an ereader that I could put a functioning version of linux on.

I’m not sure if avoiding DRM is worth that trouble yet.

I really have been looking for an ereader service that varies from the you buy it, we own it bull*edited*. I would pay a monthly fee if it meant I could access any book at anytime. Even if the fee was really high. I do enough reading from textbooks to reading for research (gg history) that I would pay for it. Yea I wouldn’t own the book, but I would have the ability to see ANY book ANY time. I think that is worth the trade off.

    meh wishful thinking.

I’m going to have to agree with the OP on this though, if you get an ereader that’s based on a book purchase system you never REALLY own any of the books you buy.

It’s almost like buying Bioshock, you own it until the developer has determined that you’ve installed it too many times then you have to buy another copy.

    Basically.

I was checking pirate bay and they seem to have a decent selection of books, but funny thing I read in the legal agreement. If misused, they will just repossess your ereader. It’s almost like you are leasing the ereader. The parameters of what “misused” is is very vague. And with Kindle and Nook, you can ONLY use the wifi to download and search for other books.

The more I read about them the less I like them. The premise of them is so nice. I would love to condense my entire bookcase down to a small tablet, but the fact that I own my books, can photocopy them and move them around and lend them out still give them superiority over ereaders.

I imagine they are afraid of what the internet has done to the music industry, in the sense that, people can download and share music for free and it cost the industry a ridiculously large amount of money. Corporate America is just evolving (or you could say adjusting) and trying to prevent another catastrophe.

Information should be free to use in any manner once you pay for it.

But I still understand what your saying. It just makes me facepalm.
