Well the way it’s set up now is basically ok. I played one map on it tonight after my internet ping went to Hell. The bots are set too easy, utcomp needs to be updated to 1.6a from 1.5 and weaponshake needs to be turned off. Other than that it’s fine.

Well, what kind of players you want inhabiting the server makes a difference in how you would set it up. So do you want newbs or pros or some sort of mixture of both? Essentially, good people don’t play onslaught, there isn’t really a competitive community for it to speak of among high level players. Newbies probably love it though, and the same is true for Assault. Good people do play Pub TDM which is usally 5v5 weaponstay on or off, usually on because people get mad about it being off because they’re bad at the game. UT comp would need to be on for a competitive server, but wouldn’t really matter for a newb tromping ground. Maybe you should consider TAM. TAM or Team Arena Master is a popular pub mod these days, among newbies and some good people. It isn’t really considered a competitive mod, but as a pub mod it’s a lot of fun. UTcomp can’t be used with TAM, the two are not compatible. All I can really tell you is that the full servers in my favorites list are the 5v5 tdm pubs and the 5v5 and 6v6 tam pubs. Sadly, there aren’t really any good CTF pubs – which is my mod of choice. Essentially the UT community has dwindled quite a bit from its hayday, most people are just on edge waiting for ut3. Any other questions?

We have 14 hours right? Why would you accordingly want to limit 1v1 games to 3-5 minutes? Powerups spawn in UT every 55 seconds, thats 3-4 posessions max, which is kinda silly. I mean, people could literally get the first 100 sheild, and accordingly win the game. 3-5 minutes is not enough time for a change of pace, which can and does happen often in longer 1v1 games. As the most seasoned and experienced UT player on this campus, I suggest you lengthen the map times for 1v1 to at least 10 minutes, if not 15(the time used in every standardized tournament I’ve ever played in, to include the one here last year). Again, we have 14 hours. As far as weaponstay, I can see leaving it on in the FFA, but on for 1v1 is pretty silly. Why? If you get the rocket launcher and I kill you and take it, and have taken the one that just spawned, (every 20 seconds) you don’t deserve to respawn and immediately have 100 HP and a rocket launcher again, it completely removes map control from the concept of the game, which 1v1 at a competitive level is ALL about. I’m not trying to downplay your ideas, but I know I’ve played in more UT tournaments than anyone else around here, and I know how the best of them were run and administrated. I’d love to see the redeemer on in FFA because that makes for hilarity, but it should be off in 1v1. Antalus is the only map that has the redeemer anyway. As far as maps not being chosen, I’m happy to help with that too, here are the list of feasible maps for each mod, maps that are normally used for this sort of tournament, maps that everyone can enjoy. These maps are all battle tested and have stood up and remained popular in the competitive community for years. They are balanced and designed for competition.

Uhm… no? I don’t think I’ve ever played anything with that name, especially not UT. Oh and if you’re talking about playing on the LAN server, if there is even one up? I don’t ever get on there, so again no, that was not me. I play almost all my UT on Fractionary TDM, Purgatory TDM, DAMNTAM, annd the rest is scrims in private servers.

$5 is probably the lowest amount I’ve ever payed to play in a UT tournament, so that really doesn’t bug me. As far as getting my moneys worth I’ll be getting that from the pizza and soda I consume while playing WoW during the other tournaments.

I have been practicing. My team won 1000$ a man in Utah this summer. I’m trying to make them get scrims every night so I get some PT between now and the tournament, and I’m going to pub for at least an hour or so every day until then. I want to be in top form for this one. Last time I was a little rusty to be honest, I want you guys to see what I can really do.

No prob, I think he lives right down the hall. Falcon I might stop by sometime soon, and if I don’t just come yell at me or look me up on facebook to get my screenname or something.

And regarding weaponstay: I’ve been to tournaments that do it both ways, but what I can tell you is that may inexperienced players HATE UT without weaponstay when it’s on free for all. This is because they die, spawn with the completely useless assault rifle – and are thus immediately overwhelmed by someone with say a rocket launcher or minigun. FFA without weaponstay makes FFA much more difficult to be successful in – but again I’ve seen tournaments do it either way. Now as far as 1v1 goes, weapon stay is always off – because that’s part of playing 1v1 strategically, controlling the weapons if you wish to do so.

It’s been pretty good lately, despite a few isolated incidents. Hope it stays good =X
