ParticipantI used to play a lot of Unreal Tournament (classic) and Unreal Tournament 2004 before i got here, but now i has noone to play with :-(… also played lots of rainbow six: raven shield, but i beat it and got slightly bored. Call of Duty and CoD: United Offensive were my favorites too. Ace Combat 4, 5, and Zero (PS2) were good, and i also played FFX and FFX-2. Forgot to mention Tomb Raider: Anniversary. Will still play any of them if I have downtime, but that has been scarce, so i keep to short streaks of cs:s, tf2, portals, halo, etc.
and I recently added Rainbow Six Vegas 2 to that list

Participantright-o. i’d suggest a council leader + exec meeting for figuring out time allocations, say meet in UC informally at food court?
Falcon
Participantgeez i forgot all bout that… needless to say that i never figured it out. take yousillyGoose’s suggestions.
Falcon
Participanti need to double-check the MOTD’s actual implementation, i didn’t get the rules but instead some web code…
Falcon
Participantperhaps true, but you can also opt with grub, at least, to install it to the first sector of your linux partition and it’ll never touch the MBR.
i’m still going to allocate some of the blame to the mix of this being the first time i’ve actually made an xp account “private” and trying to turn around and read that stuff back off with vista, since that was the new condition this time (out of dozens of times) with me working on a triple boot setup, and then some of the blame for me being a dumbass and not backing up to optical media as soon as my computer hit the fan, and a bit of it on my habit of selecting the non-quick format when making install partitions with windows (came into play later on when the windows xp cd failed to even boot after i hit the reset button while creating a new partition, not sure entirely why that screwed stuff over…)
in any case, the data i stored on a backup partition is gone to any software tool, to find that you’d have to read it with some fancy schmancy hardware. nothing but straight zeros. So I’m giving up on getting that back, and clean installing xp and linux and vista to try again to see if they can peacefully coexist…
Falcon
Participantwell, windows xp and linux play very nice together, and they all do just fine separately… a couple of times I have tossed Vista into the mix and had it work, but it’s very possessive…
Falcon
Participantmmm, yeah. I was hoping it would restore the existing one. anyway, the drama in this whole computer thing has (hopefully) hit a turning point. During all this I made a backup. My memory didn’t take note that the backup was of a 100% clean installation, as in none of my backed up data. So this whole weekend I was trying to crack into some backup archives I had specifically to recover said data, but yet I still don’t have it. there’s a tool on the ultimate boot cd that claims to recover partitions even if they have been deleted and/or formatted, i’m running it to see if I can hit this partition I made for the backup earlier, now that I can boot my system, so that I at least don’t lose my data. If I’m successful, first thing I’m doing is then backing up all of that to optical media.
btw, my computer’s windows issues have angered me. I’ll prolly look soon into seeing how much it’ll sell for, and if it’s enough then sell it to go for a newegg barebones build, or i might just convert it to linux for good…
Falcon
ParticipantOh yes, and by the way there are pictures. Just I don’t want to fuss with them on my linux computer tonight… it’s frackin 5:24am. i’ll upload them tomorrow so you can see the lovely error messages.

To restore using a Windows installation discUse this method if your computer came with a Windows installation disc.
1.
Insert the installation disc, and then restart your computer by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking the arrow next to the Lock button Picture of the Lock button, and then clicking Restart.
If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, see Start Windows from a CD or DVD for instructions about how to do this.
2.
Press any key when prompted to do so.
3.
Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
4.
Click Repair your computer.
5.
Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
NoteIf you are restoring a 64-bit system using a 32-bit Complete PC backup or a 32-bit system using a 64-bit Complete PC backup and have more than one operating system installed, you should not select an operating system. If an operating system is selected by default, clear the selection by clicking a blank area of the window, and then click Next.
6.
On the System Recovery Options menu, click Windows Complete PC Restore, and then follow the instructions.
NoteInsert the last CD or DVD of the backup set when prompted to do so.
O Rly? makes it sound like you can restore one using the other version’s discs. let me give you a hint: you can’t. So now i has to get a working installation up to do this…

Participanttime to take the risk of another weekend without games… i’m taking my computer with me to work today and installing vista. all my stuff is backed up on DVD now tho so no probs like last time hopefully
Falcon
ParticipantI waited, and I was pleasantly surprised by the rotation. Rotation stays.
Falcon
Participantbeware the intel newness… my cpu was newness when i got it as well as the socket it set on (LGA775 was new back then) and it wasn’t worth the newness… /me wishes he went AMD and AGP
Falcon
Participantnot yet. it should be changed to something actually entirely without rules
Falcon
Participantgrabbed a few sacks of 10 on the way out.
Falcon
ParticipantNew rules are up. Apply away!

Falcon
Participantand honestly the memory thing was never an issue that i noticed… even on 1gb ram it did just fine and dandy with the stuff that supported 64-bit drivers (graphics) and the programs on it, tho i still say that vista itself had a few breakdowns along the way

The Vista keys work with both 32-bit and 64-bit.No wai… anyone got a 32-bit CD?
coz my computer is built on some extras that have craptastic 64-bit support. IE tv cap cards
Falcon
ParticipantI like the idea of the WCU logo thing
Falcon
Participantif i’m around tell me and I’ll pop the server happily, other than that i can’t think of anything i can do to contribute to tf2 currently
Falcon
Participantheh, I’m not in it for the ram, silly. CPU calculation space is the name. Granted anything with Windows in its name won’t do good at it, but when I was using linux that made a world of difference for compiling code and such and when I was looking at vista i thought that usefulness was mutual. So now I have a copy of 64-bit, and I’m not shelling out for 32-bit. And 32-bit virtualization won’t run 64-bit anything, which apparently the programs I know of won’t support 64-bit emulation.
In any case, the whole point of emulation is to just have a file so that when vista makes me unhappy, it hasn’t wrecked my computer, as well as I can do shift+delete and destroy it. very satisfying.
Falcon
ParticipantI´ll bring an original (large, no extras) ps2 to it, plus 3 controllers
Falcon
Participantthe first one is too funny, internets to you sir.
Falcon
Participanti’ll be the spy and pretend to be my team’s demoman so they fear the mines, then i’ll jab my knife at them
*jab jab jab*
Falcon
ParticipantI’ve been triple-booting for some time now, this problem is a first for me… but i knoes how to do it
… just for some reason vista did NOT play nice with private xp files, and that may have triggered my spontaneous errors with hal.dll… in any case, XP is back on with drivers and anti-virus and basic stuff. I would just push vista over into a VM but i don’t know any VM software for linux that supports 64-bit virtualization (vista 64)Falcon
ParticipantI’ll bring a second copy of Ace Combat 4 with everything unlocked (maps, plane models <i’m missing a few alternate paint jobs>, weapons, difficulties, challenges), mebbe it’ll be of use

Falcon
Participanti dunno bout where you at, but up on this wing of l-wood there be a bunch o knife and pen graffiti on the far toilet stall from the door. nothing fancy, just people writing while sitting around
Falcon
Participantgeez this has taken a while. most def. meant to wrap this up over break, but no internets. expect the new rules to be finished very soon and admin applications to be reopened.
