Yeah I have pretty much decided that beta service packs from MS never work out.I do believe it specifically states NOT to put beta updates on production machines.
Just as longcat is long, betaupdate is beta.

ParticipantThe XP SP3 hasn’t caused any problems with my laptop and I installed it in November, if not longer ago.

I’ve noticed my PC running *faster* after SP1. Whats your PC specs?Second, have you scanned for spyware?
i have avg free version, and i browse with firefox, which should help prevent most of that stuff right?

ParticipantOk, I’m what you might call a computer nubzilla 3000, but if I got my lappy last summer and as far as I know I do not have the SP1, do I just go to the Microsoft DL center and just simply download and install?? Are there any tricksies that I should know about while/when doing this…Anything to make my computer a lil faster is a plus to me.
And this is the site I believe that I would be downloading it from, maybe?
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details…;displaylang=en
And if anyone else has any other good tips for cleaning up a computer or useful programs that everyone should use, those would be greatly appreciated. Right now I have symantec antivirus that my school requires, and then adaware for tha spyz on mah comp…

Avg free (just use the internet monitor, the others are useless) and Spybot with immunizations and 99% of the time you are golden. Also, if it says keygen anywhere in the file name AVG automatically flags it as trojan.generic 9 out of every 10 files.

Participantmaybe me and vista just seriously don’t get along, but i’m telling you, i’ve seen more problems than one would expect.
one example you can see for yourselves… this is on my sis’s laptop, her taskbar is there but not drawing. if you hover the mouse over it in the right places, you can still get teh popups for date and time, etc, and the window previews, and you can click on anything on it. you just can’t see it.
(in this screenshot the mouse is hovering over where the sound icon should be, or is, depending on how you look at it.)

ParticipantFalcon, you might try cleaning the computer, placing emphasis on third party addons. I see 3 things in the picture alone that set off alarms in my mind.

It slows down my computer cause it was in TURBO MODE before. Went way too fast.

Participantbahaha, no not pronz… just my sis’s computer. funny thing, it restarted and has a taskbar all good and well. still, windows shouldn’t just forget to draw the effing taskbar.
an the sis insists she’s using the 3 things you be seein… /shrugs.
an the black bars are just from mspaint, added to keep my sis’s name concealed.

ParticipantI know they were blocking personal info.
Sometimes Vista has trouble when switching the desktop theme back to Vista Basic. It may have crashed something when switching back to the non-Basic theme.
