ParticipantI would like to add briefly that this is the one political candidate that actually was lobbying for REAL change, not the crap Obama/McCain are talking about. I’m probably going to give him a write-in ballot for the election. I know it will be “throwing my vote away” but at least I won’t be questioning the reasons why I voted the way I did.

NOTE: sorry to bring in more political debate.

ParticipantI feel he might be too far in the middle and not enough “right” for enough republicans to back him…
September 11, 2008 at 12:28 pm #56165Nickname
ParticipantIt’s actually strange because he’s not nearly republican-esque for the republicans to back him, but he’s really not at all like a democrat either. His ideals are what I think the Republican party was originally fundamentally about but has since strayed into the nonsense it is today. And trust me the Democrats are no better.

Ron Paul = Ralph NaderIf you mean they are both politicians who will never hold signifigant power in the executive branch, then yes, that is probably true.

His ideals are what I think the Republican party was originally fundamentally about but has since strayed into the nonsense it is today. And notice how the Rebublicans lost almost all political power until the conservative movement took over the party. We will never have someone in office who thinks or legislates like Ron Paul because not only are his policies bad for the wealthy but they’re bad for everyone else as well. Sure he sounds good when he spends an hour preparing for a 5 minute flame to a foreign advisor but when you boil all his rhetoric down you get nothing new from him. All his ideals have been said before and will be said again and again until they realize the majority of the population disagrees with them. He had the largest internet and grassroots effort at the start of the primaries and note how fast he lost.
Also, imagine if the United States was the only major country to NOT send aid to other counties after natural disasters or if we didnt’ help allies recover after being attacked. We’d look pretty silly and no country would want to be our military or political ally.
Another thing that *edited*es me off alot, we have the strongest and fastest responding military on the planet, why we’d want to pretend or act otherwise is beyond me but he consistantly talks about how we own an “empire” and then turns around and talks about how depleted and weak our military is. You can’t say we pwn others all the time and then talk about how weak we are, it just doesn’t make sense to most.
On his domestic policies, sure we need to focus on the needs of our own people but how exactly do we do that? You can’t hand out money to just the poor as there would be no encouragement to get wealthy. You can’t give away healthcare to the poor as it won’t be good or fair to those who pay $10,000/year for it. You can’t give away food because oh wait we already do. Most poor in this country have the ability to make something of themselves if they care or try. FAFSA? [/argument]
Right now all Paul is doing is stealing voters and while that’s all well and good it certainly doesn’t get you any closer to winning. All it does is make someone alot more popular in the party lose.

ParticipantOr we could keep on going with things how they currently are, where we are overspending by $400+ million per year. Where do you think that money comes from exactly? I’ll give you a hint: it’s not Canada or Great Britain. What happens when the countries that do give us money realize that we can’t afford to pay it back? Where does that leave us then? Or hey we could always go with the Democrat way; they give us huge tax increases and also up benefits for everyone. But wait what happens to the large defecit we have now? Oh yeah they never mention cutting spending do they?
Face it, we need to cut our foreign spending just to stay afloat. And as for the military thing; uh that makes perfect sense. We can have the largest military but when they are scattered around the planet, they aren’t readily available in large numbers for deployment. What did you think they were going to bail everyone out of Iraq and fly them to Russia? Yeah, that would work well.
*edited* it all, I’m moving to Australia, mate.
