ParticipantI agree 100%.
If you all can’t stop derailing threads, don’t complain when your posts start to wind up in the trash can.

I’m also tired of old threads being revived…

ParticipantIt’s a message board. Don’t be Nazis…I think the forums are overall enjoyable the majority of the time. This has never been a problem before, even when the forums were more active.

Participantbut seriously. I don’t want to point any fingers, but I can tell you one specific person who has gone off topic/revived some oldies lately…And if I ever do that, feel free to call me a nob and go diaf…

ParticipantThis was just a basic reminder to proper forum etiquette.
Be civil.
No personal attacks. Do not feel compelled to defend your honor in public.
Stay on topic.
Please pay attention to the topic of your messages, and check that it still relates to the charter of the forum to which you are posting.
Be kind to newcomers.
Newcomers may be annoying. They ask the wrong questions, including ones that seem obvious (or whose answers seem easy to find). But lots of valued contributors started out this way, and treating newcomers kindly makes them more likely to turn into the valuable community members we all know and love (and cut some slack when they mess up).
Point newcomers in the right direction in addition to turning them away from the wrong ones, and be kind to them in the process of correcting their transgressions.
Let sleeping dogs lie.
It’s tempting to revisit controversial decisions you disagree with, but it’s rarely productive to do so, since it almost always results in the same heated, lengthy, and time/energy draining discussions leading to the same conclusion that was reached in the last round. Therefore, for issues already raised, discussed, and decided upon, reopen the discussion only if you have significant new information that would reasonably prompt reconsideration of the original decision.
Please and Thank you

ParticipantWe could even make “Forum Rules” that point to that.
October 7, 2008 at 11:56 pm #59202YahooEarth
ParticipantHonestly I think forums rules would be read even less than the MOTD is read in sauce…And this part isn’t that off topic, but if we do make a rule list, can we have it written in true NoDice form? I prefer him that way…I can barely understand whatever he last posted here…

ParticipantThere are a lot of times when you go to forums and they say to look for an existing thread for a certain topic rather than create a new one. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to revive old threads, unless they’re like several months old and several pages long. It would take a little while to go through it and refresh your memory.
If you’re talking about people reviving old topics to boost their posts for admin, though, yeah… that sucks.
