ParticipantJust a couple of questions.
What is with all the bickering in party, and who do you think should be the next republican nominee for presidency? I’m sure ya’ll have heard about the whole Rush Limbaugh thing and Steele pathetic apology. Steele is the NRP leader, but republicans (including Limbaugh) are saying he’s not the leader of the Republican Party, I don’t get it. Most of this seems like the media blowing things out of proportion, but it seems like the GOP is losing it’s image. Hell now that I think about it, the republican that comes to mind when I think of “what a republican is”, isn’t what most republicans consider republican. Just curious what is the ideal republican?

Steele apologized because he made pretty hateful remarks to someone that over 1/3 of his party listens to everyday on the radio. It was extremely stupid and while Rush isn’t the party leader he is the de-facto head of the Conservative movement, a group the party cannot alienate if they intend to like, you know, get more votes than the Green Party in the next election. There’s no reason these two guys can’t be friends and my opinion is that Steele was just upset that someone else has more support from the foundation of the party than he does. Also, no one can really remember how or why he was made the party leader, this doesn’t help his standing either.
The deal with Rush and Obama is just the media blowing smoke to distract from the economy going down the toilet on Obama’s watch. Rush didn’t say he wanted Obama to fail, he said he wanted his socialist policies to fail. What the media can’t grasp about this the rest of us will never know. This entire media circus is about tying Rush to the republican party and then dragging him through the mud hoping it’ll make the party look bad. Those who don’t watch CNN/MSNBC don’t really get bombarded by this sort of liberal media bias, and that’s what it is at this point because this really isn’t anything new and it’s been said prior to Rush by many others in the conservative party. The media will run this through the pipe until either people start to realize that’s it’s not true or they change channels out of pure disgust at the same story reported over and over in slightly different vocabulary. Meanwhile REAL stories like judges being able to rewrite mortage agreements as they see fit and Obama’s new socialized healthcare initiative will be ignored.
And as far as leadership, the party has no leadership right now. We’re in the same boat as the democrats back in 2000 and 2004 and it’s going to take more than a few months to get our bearings again. What the party needs now is someone with a solid conservative background and the willingness to weed out those in congress who are registered republicans but voting democrats. That’s the one thing that seperates the two parties, the democrats are united in how they vote while the republicans have no idea who is really with them and who isn’t. We’ve fixed this problem in the House over the last few weeks but the Senate borderline republicans are still being traitors to their party and until we can get that negative influence out we won’t recover.
/end rant

yeah I figured that much. Hopefully someone will emerge, cuz Bobby Jindal won’t cut it.None of the major figures in the party right now will cut it because none of them are true Republicans. As it stands now, the Republican elite is nothing more than a group of centrists using our ticket to run, none of them have more than a handful of the principals and ideals that the party once did so well running on. I mean when you look back at who we had to pick from all our candidates were about 1/3 liberal, 1/3 centrist, and 1/3 conservative, the only difference between them was which issue they were conservative on and you can’t win an election when your own candidate was himself the lesser of the evils.
We need someone with Rush Limbaugh’s ideals and policies without the stigma associated with the Rush Limbaugh name.

She spends too much time trying to get attention and not enough time earning it. Alot of what she says is for the shock effect and while it does work and it does sell books, it doesn’t really help the party that much.

ParticipantMasterP for president!!!
The behavior of the Republican candidates especially in congress makes me not want to identify with the Republican Party. This is why I will always be a conservative first and a Republican second. What people fail to realize is that Rush is not some fringe nutcase that liberals and the media portray him to be. He is a polarizing figure to be sure, but his views are not outside of the conservative mainstream. He spoke for 58 million Americans who voted for McCain (really against Obama) this year when he said that he hoped Obama’s policies failed. I hope they do too. Don’t get me wrong, I want the economy to turn around, I wish Obama success in this matter, however his policies will not do the job. If he decided to cut taxes to stimulate the economy (I mean real cuts, not the “credits” in the stimulus bill.) I would not think twice about supporting him. However asking me to support his policies now is like asking the liberals to have supported the Iraq war. (Even though most of them did at one time.)

ParticipantIt’s important to remember that the Republican Party and the conservative base operate independently. The base has been angry with the party leaders for quite a while now because it seems like the leaders have abandoned the base. That is why Steele had to apologize when he insulted Rush Limbaugh. It was like the leader of the RNC was attacking one of the key voices of conservatism. Not a very good way of endearing yourself to the base. When Steele took over, I thought he might help bring conservatives back to the leadership, but every time he talks I become more unsure about him. First he said we should endear ourselves to pro-choice people and now this.
I have nothing against Jindal, but I don’t know much about him. I’m really on the fence about Coulter.

ParticipantGAWD I *edited*IN HATE POLITICIANS!@!11!! No one has the balls to say what they mean and mean what they say. Steele was like, “oh yeah, he’s ugly and incendiary,” and then turns around and pretends he didn’t say or mean it. afhdla;fhjadpf and you wonder why the country is in the crapper. As for republicans actually having a leader or winning elections? that’s over. None of them are republicans and nobody in this country wants to vote for people who don’t have any idea what they believe and are clearly *edited*.

ParticipantAlthough I’m far far from a republican, I don’t want them to fail. The quality of our government depends on that competitiveness between conservatives and liberals.
