So, woot for the voice upgrade, i can now understand all the stuff being said…

and also AngelEllaine finally sounds feminine… the voice codecs earlier made ya sound like some large deep-throated male, somehow.

Probably because the old codec was named “miles” – maybe it was because it made everyone sound like a gimp? Miles sounds like a gimpy name.

You *edited*… Meh i still think ventrilo is better.

Naturally Ventrilo is better, it uses a codec that is far superior to Speex (what we’re using now). I’ve been using Vent for years now for CS/WoW/AoE/etc. We should get Ellaine, etc into the WCU Vent ^_~. Then again, I haven’t even connected once to the WCU Vent yet, blah.

The difference in CS from the old codec (miles, wtf? Who names a codec miles?) is tremendous though, it practically is crystal clear.

SPEEX’S FREENESS CANNOT BE DEFEATED. It may not be the best compared to some ridiculously complicated proprietary codecs, but it’s got a BSD-like license, so even Valve can use its open-source goodness in their closed-source garbage.

Also, I’m kind of disappointed that they took out the bandwidth setting that 1.6 had, you could crank the quality up even higher at the expense of a little bandwidth, which we certainly have.

You mean everyone on the server doesn’t sound like they have something in their mouth? Great.

Having sound is a little more enjoyable now that the mic sounds better, now that my ears dont bleed… unfortunately now i can hear ALL of osama’s useless babble, I can’t wait til I eventually get a mic :) Although Kuros swears it would be the end of the server…
