Participanthttp://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/11/08/twinkie.diet.professor/index.html
He lose 27 pounds in 2 months, eating a twinkie every 3 hours.
He only took in 1800 calories a day.
His LDL numbers dropped, while his good cholesterol increased.
Haub’s body fat dropped from 33.4 to 24.9 percent.
wtf. I donno if i would try this, but it’s kind of interesting.

ParticipantIt’s not what he’s eating so much as how often. There’s been alot of research recently that’s shown that eating breakfest within an hour of waking up and then a small “meal” every 3-4 hours throughout the day can dramatically help in weight loss. Apparently when you wait until you’re truely hungry the body changes the matabolism rate so that more of the food you eat is stored (fat) as opposed to if you eat when you’re only slightly hungry. You also eat less because you’re only mildly hungry and it takes much less food to feel “full”. Since the metabolism stays in “burn mode” all day, you actually burn more calories and store less as fat.
Of course, the ADA has labelled all that as science fiction. Far be it for someone not on their payrole to come up with a healthy way to eat

Participanti mean if you eat 1800 calories a day, regardless of what it is, you’ll lose weight. I was more surprised by his cholesterol figures. How the hell did he gain good cholesterol while losing bad, eating a *edited*ing twinkie? That’s when i realized he didn’t eat just Twinkies. He ate vegetables and protein shakes on a more normal 3 meal cycle. <—– that right there is the real reason he lost weight and got technically healthier. Kinda deceiving..

ParticipantIf eating healthy had anything to do with weight loss the US wouldn’t have as many fat people as it does. There’s alot more to weight than how you eat because there’s alot more going on than simply digestion and nutrition.
How you manage other factors like metabolism is just as important as the food you eat.

Participantmetabolism is a part of nutrition

what people eat, how they eat them, and how fast they lose the calories gained by those foods pretty much sums it up. I was referring to his “healthy” numbers; if he ate just Twinkies without the vitamins, vegetables, and protein shakes in between he’d be *edited*ed.
I wonder what rank the US would be if you could rate metabolism on average of different countries. Next to last i bet. *edited* those Europeans and all that *edited* walking they do.

ParticipantWe’ll be there too before it’s over with. Busses, trains, and walking.
Tbh, I’d take a train over airplane any day. By the time you spend 2 hours getting through security (IE legally sanctioned sexual assault) and an hour waiting on your luggage the train really isn’t that much slower unless you’re going cross country. Factor in a 120V AC outlet, cheap first class upgrades and unlimited drinks in it, comfortable seating, and the ability to bring your own food and uhm yeah. Maybe the Euros do know wtf they’re doing.
Interesting fact, NC is the only state where Amtrak is turning a profit. Apparently the Raleigh-Greensboro-Charlotte route is extremely popular.

i’ve used the raleigh charlotte train a lot
it would be more awesome if it were more on time, one time that *edited* didn’t come cause some bridge was out and they took us there on buses and instead of being smart and putting people on the buses that were going to one location, ie one bus goes straight to charlotte, they had the buses go to all the cities
i want high speed trains everywhere
now please

Participantthat’s only been backed up by one study. Argument is invalid
November 19, 2010 at 3:54 pm #106812Lemm
ParticipantIt makes sense.. your body adjusts it’s metabolism based on how much you eat.. it would only be logical to say that it can be determined by how often.
People who starve themselves can end up gaining weight because the body slows it’s metabolism and when they actually do eat even if it’s not too much the body takes longer to metabolize it.
I’ve heard that before reading this.

If by one you mean more than one then yeah. A quick google gave me 3 studies on it but if I’d spent a whole minute I might have found more.
Besides even if it was only 1 study, do you have any idea how much of our “science” is based on factual studies? Just look how far they got with global warming and it’s “study data” was almost entirely fictional. Studies and articles used to be how things got done but the last decade has proven it’s allows equally bad science to get pushed. It’s far easier to publish than it used to be, mainly because all the actual “good science” is spent trying to debunk the already published “bad science”. And before you call me full of crap, I spent my junior and senior years disproving a large chunk of a freshly published book on metamaterials, written by one of the “leaders” in the field. I’d have much rather done something else but that’s what the program head wanted us to do so we did.
