ParticipantSo as my build date looms near, I can’t decide whether to get the EVGA 9800GTX(G92) or the EVGA 8800GT Superclocked
Here is a link comparing them, any input would be helpful
I’m leaning towards the 8800GT because its just about equal to the 9800GTX except in stream processorsApril 30, 2008 at 7:37 pm #45086Ephraim
ParticipantSpeaking as an impartial observer, I’d say that fast computers are better than slow computers.

ParticipantTake the middle road and get an 8800gts 512… it is literally just a lower clocked 9800gtx

8800GT Superclocked > 8800GTS 512MBThat is actually inaccurate as the 8800GTS is clocked higher than the 8800GT and has more shaders. Espescially if you consider the 8800GTS 512 superclocked it is >>> 8800GT and == 9800gtx

ParticipantI recommend the more affordable option… I’m still rocking a geforce 6800gt from years ago, and it still does fine and well, about the only thing it doesn’t do on modern stuff is the extra fancy shizz. Granted, some games will look at that and go “i can’t have my pixel shaders and vertex shaders and AA as high as bleeding edge technology can get and still get as many fps as the number of miles light travels in a calendar year, i shall not run.” it can still render more than enough poly’s to keep my games happy (1.6, cs:s, portal, tf2, UT2k4, Tomb Raider: Aniversary, CoD 1, CoD 1: UO, etc.). especially if you’re gonna be sticking to cs:s and 1.6, there be no reason

Participantsomeone tell me how to find out what kind of *edited*s my comp runs on and i’ll tell ya =P
all i know is sauce and 1.6 run perfectly well on mine and my computer is i believe 4 maybe 5 years old. with the only thing upped being a video card because the other one burned out but that one ran my games just the same if not better. and keep in mind while running cs i have aim, irc, and itunes open. sometimes also internet explorer but i try to close that to reduce my ping =)

ParticipantIf you get a 8800GTS make sure you get a G92 version or else all benefits over the 8800GT are lost.
The 9000 series isn’t worth the money at this point. They are only marginally faster and are priced much higher. I think the 9800GX2 is only 15% faster than the 8800 Ultra. Wait for the 9900s which will be on the G92b core and have a 55nm process.

Participantyeah that 8800gts KO is literally almost the exact same as the 9800gtx… same # of shaders, the core clocks are almost identical, only thing is the memory speed is about 50mhz slower… not noticeable. Congrats on the 9800gtx at 8800gts pricing lol
