came across this little gem on some server today.

I though it really stood out and prob the nice motd i have seen for tf2.

really like how they advertised other servers, we could do 1.6 and css as well. just an idea. thoughts?

I would love to do that but I dont know the html that would be required for it. If you do, please make an internet page looking like that (must use simple html) and we can implement it.

I would be careful before straightup copying things like that. Clans are starting to copyright their stuff and it’d be a shame if they found out and cared.

On that note, the HTML shouldn’t be hard. If I get the time I might work on something similar but I doubt if CSS would look good with that as it’s MotD is much less “pretty friendly”.

i just like how clear the heading is

the 4 corners breaking up the 4 main sections

then the our other servers with ip’s and current map/players.

not saying to “copy” theirs, just the format.

    #50271

Bahahha, on that note, on their homepeage they have a how to copy our motd…

    DO IT

they have come very good “how to’s”

    Thanks

Notice the copyright at the bottom. If you do put this on TF2 make sure you include that.

Before this can be put on CSS I’ll have to change quite a bit to make it fit in the smaller window.

If we can make this happen I would prefer somehow making it more our own, though I do like the layout of this one and the general direction it is going. If we have no other choice but to give them credit then lets do it because it looks good and it is clean and clear.

    Who is/was working on it?

i was under the impression MasterP was. but i might be wrong…?

i’d do it if i ever in my life took a codeing class. its looks pretty basic since they step you through it and give you the code templates to simply edit??? i think

    #50803

If possible, This would make a kick *edited* motd header image.

I also said it would be a back-burner project for me, and being as how I work 10 hour shifts now, the back-burner is barely lit.

I would get Nickname, with his infinite amount of goof-off-time-at-work, to do it.

I already did do it; though not like this one. Log onto the server to see it. or look at my attachment below

Actually I am right at the character limit so I can only add stuff if I remove other stuff…

    #50848

First of all what a hell of an improvement over the old one. As i was saying earlier, it actually looks like we are a professional organization and not some 3ed world crack on the upper shelf.

    I like it, ALOT!

In order to make space for the 2ed half, what does everyone think about “cutting the fat” its rare that people read it when their are a bunch of words… in fact i dont think i have ever read any other servers motd. Its more thier as a wow factor. and if people really like the server they will read it at mapchange or when ever they coem back.. hoping to direct to the website.

if the space is allotted, i think adding the other servers would be more beneficial than anything else.

attached is kinda what i’m thinking. (its just paint, just trying to get the idea from words to image.)

ok what do you think of this one?

I worked on it forever to stay under the character limit (MAX characters for MOTD.txt is 1535; this one is at 1533)

actually another idea is i could make a more complex one and upload it to the website and just have the motd autopoint to it to get around that character maximum.

    #50870

the way they got around the character limit was they took a screenshot image of their MOTO and set it as a background. Then they added that cool live server update..

also, the website idea should work.

the live server update doesn’t really make sense for us though since we only have 2 TF2 servers (for now) and the updating stuff probably wont work with source or 1.6. I know NOTHING about php so if you want that done then you will have to do it yourself. I barely scrape by on the HTML as it is lol.
