ParticipantSo we have this cat in our backyard, a couple of them actually. All of them appear to be stray, no collar, nothing. One of them, the only friendly one, we named garfield cause, well it looks like garfield. Apparently it’s a she cause it’s getting really fat, appears to be pregnant. Now, the only reason i started feeding the *edited* cats, was cause they looked hungry; probably should have known better, but i guess i’m a softy at heart. Anyway now this *edited*er is pregnant, and i was wondering if any of you cat lovers knew what the hell to do? I don’t really want to take it to the vet, can’t afford it, but i don’t want it to die. I’ve been reading up on it, and it seems that they can pretty much give birth by themselves, so hopefully i don’t need to do anything. Anyway, I’ll keep you posted on what happens, garfield looks like shes about to pop any day now.
btw, anyone want a fresh cat?

Participantlol yes NuRayz, cats are perfectly capable of giving birth themselves. How do you think the species survived before they were domesticated?

ParticipantShe’ll give birth out of sight and you won’t see the little ones until they’re at least a few weeks old.
You can hunt around for where she’s hidden them but she’ll rape you if you get too close.

This
don’t *edited* with mama cat once the babies are out. – also, cats are probably the LEAST domesticated pet there is so i assume even the babies will be fine – unless they have a crippling love for pavement.

ParticipantSo… I have a ridiculous amount of cats due to the fact that, well, two females kept making babies (not together obviously, but the way I wrote that looks funny) with some of the stray pimps in the neighborhood. The first cat we got a few years ago was pregnant when we took her in. She was actually really friendly despite being preggo and a stray (I’d still be wary, though) and the other female is actually her daughter. I don’t know if female cats are insane when they’re pregnant, but if they are, I think because she was born here and was with us her entire life, she is comfortable with us. Out of all the litters we’ve had with those two, we saw them all on the same day they were born. They do like to hide when they give birth. One female kept going into the basement to have her babies. Although we took her in, she was still an outdoor cat and came home to eat and sleep, but there were a couple of times when she had babies outside of the house. I think she had one under our neighbor’s deck. She carried each kitten one at a time into the house (cute and funny story, but I won’t go into it), but the other litter died. :/ I don’t know if it’s a lie or not cuz I think my neighbors hate us, but they said that the kittens drowned in their pool.

There are a few other strays in the neighborhood and I’ve seen them with kittens. The kittens will follow the mom around, so they should be okay. I’ve never seen any cat roadkill here, so the mothers must know to stay out of the road or be careful when crossing and the kittens pick up on it.
Lastly, AWWW @ YOU FOR TAKING CARE OF SOME KITTEHS. <3

ParticipantToranky’s almost story makes me want to reminisce
My grandmother, back in 1996, lived down in South Georgia and we would visit her every summer or two. The awesome thing about mama townsend was that she had a HUGE yard and all like 7 of her cats lived around the property. (Mind you only one cat was cool enough to be an indoor cat lol) So one year one of the cats had kittens right before our family arrived and I just remember playing with 8 little kittens at once and it being the happiest moment at year.
i kept all my gushing to a minimum I could have gone on and on, but i shall not lol
i also broke my arm twice that year so playing with kittens vs broken arm recovery mind you

Participantyeah i’ve tried to keep my cat love to a minimum. I was horrified as a little kid when i was walking home from school one day and saw a cat being chased by a dog, run across a brick fence, trip, and get caught in this thick prickely rose bush. I couldn’t get him out cause the bush was too thick, but all i remember was seeing him stuck there helpless. The next day he was dead

OMG, SO SAD. I’m always scared about stuff happening to my kitties.
I hate those stupid cat abuse threads (srsly, anyone who tortures animals should die) or the ones when they say a particular get will decide the fate of their cat (fortunately, a lot of people <3 cats). Makes me so sad. T_T

Participant2nd worst day on the internet for me was when I saw a video of people pouring lighter fluid on a kitten and watching it burn. Not at all fun.
March 31, 2010 at 9:11 pm #99545torankusu
ParticipantUgh, I saw a video like that where some assholes were doing that to a turtle. I’ve never seen a turtle run so fast before. So *edited*ing sad.
I read somewhere that cats are like the most tortured (or maybe like second most; if it was second, I don’t remember if they mentioned what was first) animal. I know that sentence sounds like it would include livestock, but I think it was maybe animals kept as pets. I don’t remember.
I remember the first picture I ever saw. They lured the cat into the bathtub with a can of cat food and then in each snapshot after, you see the cat getting tied up, getting its tail cut off (and the pliers used to do it), laying in its own blood in the tub… ugh. The last one had the cat suspended from ropes in the tub, dead, its jaw wide open. It looked like it was unhinged. It made me sick to my stomach.
My mom, while she loves our pets, sometimes thinks we’re crazy keeping them all, but when I see this kind of *edited* on the internet, I think of how lucky our pets are to have people who love them so much. It makes me sick to imagine that it could be one of my cats in that pic. We’ve given a couple of kittens away, but it was to friends and a nurse at an animal hospital. We know they’ll be taken care of. I also offer to take them back if they don’t want them. I’d rather take care of them than have them get released into the neighborhood or taken to a shelter (I hate that animals are put down due to lack of room).

ParticipantI mean my family has both dogs and cats. Or rather now Dog and Cat.
Dog is a small smelly version of lassie who steals food off the table and the cat likes to wake up at 5am and annoy the *edited* out of my mom. lulz
I really don’t know what I’m partial to animal wise. Like, there are days I could just hug a cat till i remember I like to have blood inside my skin and not outside, and there are days (like today) where i ran up and started petting a German Shepard before I realize it was a K-9. Dog liked the attention, but I probably set it back 2 years in training lol

LOL.
I was only a dog person up until hmm… 2006 when we took in our first cat. I noticed that I started giving the cats more attention.
I still love my dogs, though.June 17, 2010 at 4:37 pm #102087newrayz

ParticipantTHEY’RE SO CUTE AND I’M GLAD THEY CAME BACK AND THEY’RE SAFE.
My cat just had babies. We can’t keep them, though, because we have so many. They’re 1.5 weeks old. I’m gonna take pictures of them. I love it when kittens are just learning to walk and they’re all wobbly and falling over. They’re so pudgy, too. They’re adorable when they look like that before they start getting big and slimming down. OH GOD. CUTENESS.
Pics coming maybe tomorrow.
