ParticipantSo, WCU experienced some power issues earlier, and whatever it was that caused issues, now my windows is brokeded to the point of another full reformat/install being necessary… i’ve got backups such that i would have to reformat, install vista, and then from there do a full system restore, but that’s been too much of a headache in the past, and i’m not going to do that with the end of classes so near. I’ll still be available on irc and the forums, but my time with cs:source, tf2, and being a council leader have come to an end for at least this semester. Among the executives we are discussing an interim council leader to last until our meeting May 3, when all available members can vote for a summer cs:source council leader.
i’m seeing error code 0x0000007B on boot?

Participantlol, the full restore would put a vista and a xp partition back, noob.

ParticipantSo the power went out and now you can’t boot Windows? Wtf? You have any idea what the odds of a power outage causing that kind of data loss is?
I’m calling shenanigans.

Participantwell, in the minutes or so preceding the power outage, something inspired my motherboard speaker to tone constantly and my computer to freeze…
and odds be what they are, i’m a huge fan of coincidence

Overheating or bad power. Neither of which corrupt windows unless you’re running raid0.
I’m still calling shenanigans.

Participanteh, i accept your call of shenanigans. still i am at a loss of what triggered this. if it’s hardware, it’s awkward timing… if it’s a regular windows shut down, it’s not surprising… if it’s an abrupt windows shutdown, it’s bad luck… if it’s power, i’m taking my interpretation of masterp’s comments and buying a lotto ticket.

Participantbump, looked again at error code, i’m seeing error 0x0000007b, see original post for link. something prolly gave my cmos settings a good whapp.
somehow this doesn’t even bother linux, /shrugs.
but you were right masterp, no corruption apparently.

i’m seeing error 0x0000007b,That’s a 10 minute fix with Hirens, depending on hard drive speed. It’s commonly caused by turning Windows off incorrectly and is basically like yanking a USB drive while it’s being accessed.

Participanti’ll probably have some time friday to look at it at work, since i’ll be there all day and fridays are pretty slow, so I might just lug it up there to try. if i don’t manage that, then it’s going to be cutting it too close to exams, and right now i’m running linux off the same computer perfectly stable, and it can still get to every one of my files and do anything i need for school related things. I really don’t need to risk trashing this thing right before exams

Participantin any case, as was voted in our executive discussion, Hannah Montanna is now the standing interim Council Leader, with a favorable executive vote.
