I’ve never played MMOs because I don’t like playing the monthly fee(Guild Wars is an obvious exception), but the Star Trek MMO really looks pretty nice. Obviously, the reviews/first impressions are pretty divided at this point, but it would be nice if I got a more personal idea from someone about it.
Seriously, Star Trek hasn’t had a solid flight-sim since Klingon Academy and I seriously doubt this comes close to how good it could have been with a decent development team. They should have reassembled the old 14 Degrees East team, that would have given this game an epic space sim aspect.
I think around four guys at my work have played the beta and only one likes it. Though apparently they are putting a lot of work into patching it. Some complaints I’ve heard from them are “No fps combat only 3rd person shooter combat”, “Space fights are fun at first but get repetitive very fast”, “Still needs a lot of work and I don’t want to pay money for it before they fix this *edited*”.
Like I said, assemble 14 Degrees East and you’ve got Star Trek space battles that never get old. Anything else is like Bridge Commander or Starfleet Academy Vol 2/3. They’re fun at first but take WAY too long and get old fast.
