ParticipantHere’s the seemingly complete roster for Brawl on the Wii. http://kotaku.com/350347/super-smash-bros-…s-turn-to-flood I’m sure there are a few curious people out there. Yay silly internets.
And yes, it’s still due for March… hopefully.

Participantdon’t know if it’s the exact same thing but a diff. link, but here’s this as well http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/29/super-sp…pdate-videos-a/

ParticipantWell, it certainly looks real. I guess the rumors of a 50+ roster were false, but nine up from the previous game is still cool. I’m certainly glad Gannondorf is back, and his Twilight Princess makeover looks great. I could have done without Jigglypuff, Ice Climbers, and Game & Watch (Ice Climbers but no Mewtwo? Blasphemey!) Still, the lack of Pichu is nice.
One odd thing about the roster is how it seems to betray the notion that there would be no clone characters in this game (Fox/Falco, Link/Toon Link, Mario/Luigi, Ness/Lucas, arguably Capt. Falcon/Ganondorf). It makes me wonder if they will alter some of their moves. This would be cool, as I never liked Ness’ moves, but am fond of the character. Ridley will make an awesome boss, but part of me wanted him to be an unlockable character, as much of a long shot as that was. Oh, and ROB ftw.
However, I am still a little skeptical that this is the final roster. Notice how there are only two third-party characters. Sakurai made it sound like there would be at least three. The game comes out in Japan tomorrow, so I guess we’ll find out soon.

ParticipantSorry for the double-post, but I think this is worth it:
Any idea who this guy is? Name: Tabuu.
Fifteen seconds before the molestation begins.
The glorius return of the Koopa Clown Car. I think it looks like a turnip.
The greatest Final Smash ever?

ParticipantI don’t know if i believe any of this. I know some of these are true but who the hell is Star Wolf? Sounds like something out of a bad fan fiction.
January 30, 2008 at 4:08 pm #35055Bitey
ParticipantWOW You fail sir, Star Wolf and his gang are the rival pilots of Star Fox, did you not play the N64 version?

ParticipantIt’s kind of funny that even leaks contain Photoshop crap. Yeah, I don’t believe that “Star Wolf” thing either, and the caption under it says something along the lines of “Urufu” (straight up Japanese 102 there for ya). That was Fox’s group, I believe…. errrm yeah. What really interests me is the whole Taboo thing. I have no clue what that is.
Arguably most of the characters that were left out were either too much of a clone, have a similar replacement (i.e., I’d like to think Lucario plays just like Mewtwo… he’s just an updated ver.), or were not popular enough because, yes, tournament popularity can do wonders for a character.
I don’t know how many people actually do care, but Ephriam dear I am willing to debate the game with you.
Ice Climbers are fantastic, unique, and have a cult following. Jigglypuff simply stays because she’s an original. It’s been said that Lucas plays differently from Ness. Marth is back because he’s awesome (Roy was just so low tier that it wasn’t even funny… same as Mewtwo. Luigi isn’t a clone at all and has different move sets, just like Windwaker Link.Falco, however… ugh. I just hope they make him not so cheap.
AND YAY FOR POKEY. It’s also bad that I own a R.O.B. It never worked. Just like my Power Glove.

January 30, 2008 at 4:24 pm #35062Bitey
ParticipantIf all you have played is PlayStation its no wonder you don’t know much about Star Fox.

Participant*edited* Bitey, haha.. tearing my roommate a new hole. Who knew that Star Fox would be one of your pet peeves?
January 30, 2008 at 4:27 pm #35065TrebuShae
ParticipantBe nice! I’m sitting next to him! I already make fun of him for not having one.
January 30, 2008 at 4:27 pm #35066Ephraim
ParticipantWhen I first heard about the Subspace Emissary, I was skeptical. I just felt that a story doesn’t belong in Smash Bros. Yet, the more I’veseen of it, the more impressed I’ve gotten. This game is going to be excellent. Famitsu already gave it a perfect score. Of course, they also gave a perfect score to Nintendogs….
For the record: Grim Dingo was refering to a now discredited roster that also included King K. Rool. TrebuShae was refering to a leaked roster which is almost certainly ligit.
January 30, 2008 at 4:27 pm #35068Grim Dingo
ParticipantI never wanted one.

January 30, 2008 at 4:35 pm #35074Grim Dingo
ParticipantI know you weren’t being mean, and oh, i know fox. Mainly i know that he’s a fox, and he flies around on the Star Fox. And sometimes he does a barrel roll.

1. My problem with Ice Climbers are that when one goes, the other is useless. They are also extremely obscure which may not be a big deal, but always irked me. Also, I once read part of an interview with the guy who designed that game. The interviewer asked the designer to ellaborate on the relationship between Nana and Popo. He said they are “More than friends, but less than lovers.” Since then, its hard for me to think of anything else while playing as them.
2. Used correctly, Jigglypuff can be a very cheap character and I just never cared for him/her. We don’t need four playable Pokemon characters.
3. The only difference between Lucas and Ness’ play styles is that Lucas’ standard special move freezes instead of explodes.
4. Luigi’s moves were almost identical to Mario’s with only a few exceptions.
5. Nobody knows what Toon Link’s moves will be, but considering his bow and arrow, its a safe bet he will be a clone of Link.
6. Yay for Pokey, indeed. I love Earthbound as is evident by the eyeless, aquatic reptile which is my avatar.
7. I also have a R.O.B. and a copy of Gyromite. It didn’t work.
8.

Nah.

2. Used correctly, Jigglypuff can be a very cheap character and I just never cared for him/her. We don’t need four playable Pokemon characters.Jigglypuff is not cheap. He just has a very solid air game that dominates most other characters’. His rest ability is good, but is very hard to pull off in high level play. He is also been in every smash game, so there is no way he could be out.

3. The only difference between Lucas and Ness’ play styles is that Lucas’ standard special move freezes instead of explodes. This is taken directly from smash dojo:
“There’s a character named Ness who has appeared in the Smash Bros. series up until now, and Lucas is very similar. They are from the same family of PK users. But Lucas’s physical combat style is quite different. By which I mean, he does not have the same standard moves.“
Quote:
4. Luigi’s moves were almost identical to Mario’s with only a few exceptions.Luigi’s recovery was totally different, his super-long wavedash made his movement completely different, his dash attack is useless, his tall jumping required you to combo and approach totally differently, ect.ect.

5. Nobody knows what Toon Link’s moves will be, but considering his bow and arrow, its a safe bet he will be a clone of Link.False. There are multiple videos of gameplay out already that proves otherwise:

While I concede that Lucas’ Smash Attacks are very different from Ness’, his Special Moves are virtually identical.

If he ain’t a clone, then he’s mighty close. Not that I hold it against the character. It would not surprise me if, just as Mario’s down special move has been changed to that squirt gun of his, Luigi’s down special move were changed to his supernatural vacuum.

There. I think I’ve stated my case. Yet I feel like a geek for knowing so much about the subject.

ParticipantEphraim you should change your avatar to, “Ephraim the Retarded Rabbit”. This isn’t to be mean, this is a family guy reference.
January 31, 2008 at 12:59 am #35119Grim Dingo
ParticipantSo Brawl should be fun.
January 31, 2008 at 1:05 am #35120Ephraim
ParticipantYou should change your avatar to a possum. This isn’t to be mean, this is a Simpsons reference.
You see, I could have gone with a Marv Albert joke, but no. I took the moral high road.
Random thoughts that haven’t made it into other posts:
Something I am really starting to like about Subspace Emissary is how all the Nintendo characters live in the same world and interact with eachother. It’s like Videoland from Captain N, except it dosen’t suck.
There are few things in life as funny as Dedede’s Final Smash. He sings and dances as Waddle Dees fall from the sky and run around causing chaos. Luigi’s Final Smash is just bizzare. It’s like a bubble of hallucinagenic drugs radiates outward from his body.
I am glad Ness is still in the game and am hoping that we get to see a Saturn Valley stage. Or maybe a Cave of the past stage. All the platforms would look like intestines!

ParticipantOh, Matthew, I do hope you play as Ice Climbers again at the LAN. We train so ardently. I want to learn how to talk smack to you more efficiently, because I have to bite my tongue when I’m the girl who ends up embarrassing men whom she does not know.
Peach and Zelda haven’t gotten any love today. And you know who has a better air game than Jiggly? Pikachu.
No, I’m serious.…Linking VG Cats does not give any credibility. In fact, it actually takes away from it.
January 31, 2008 at 1:21 am #35122Grim Dingo
ParticipantBut you know who owns all of them combined? Link and his magic sword of death. And bombs.

Whether the Ice Climbers are any good is subjective. I think they were some of the worst characters in Melee, but if you dig playing as the awkward Inuits, go for it. Admitedly, their new Brawl stage looks cool.

ParticipantCare to put some money on it?
I’ll give you 3:1 odds.
