So after wikiing russias system, i’m still confused. Who runs russia? Putin or Medvedev? Technically the PM is under the president, but Putin is still seen as the head nacho?

same with Iran. What’s with these countries having like 252342 different leaders.

Medvedev is the President. He deals mainly with the foreign policy and all the fancy UN parties, where Putin is the *edited*in man aka Prime Minister, and basically i thought he resides over domestic issues.

Or at least that is supposed to be how it is.

Putin runs the *edited*, Medvedev is a pawn.

Regardless of what rank he holds, Putin will be the man running the show for the duration of his premiership and probably for a while after he’s out of office. He’s ex-KGB, that’s just how they do things.

In Iran the man in charge is Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader or Ayatolla. This is a religious appointment. He wasn’t qualified when he took office but a “few” religious leaders is all that was needed to raise his Islamic rank to that required by Iranian law. He’ll be in charge until the world grows a pair and helps the people overthrow the government when the election “winner” really comes in 3rd place.

Putin created the Prime Minister position after he couldnt serve as president any longer.

“Due to constitutionally mandated term limits, Putin was ineligible to run for a third consecutive Presidential term. After the victory of his successor, Dmitry Medvedev, in the 2008 presidential elections, he was then nominated by the latter to be Russia’s Prime Minister; Putin took the post on 8 May 2008.

In his last days in office he was reported to have taken a series of steps to re-align the regional bureaucracy to make the governors report to the prime minister rather than the president.[141][142] The presidential site explained that “the changes… bear a refining nature and do not affect the essential positions of the system. The key role in estimating the effectiveness of activity of regional authority still belongs to President of the Russian Federation.”
