ParticipantI’ve been wanting to connect to my home pc “DL box” for various reasons, ever since i moved. I broke down and did the trial to GotoMyPC.com like a noob and iv been hella impressed.
Its a web based client so you can login from any internet connection on multiple computers w/o downloading anything. so thats sweet. I dont need to have anyone on the other end to click to accept the connection, but does require a key/password. It lets me drag and drop files from desktop to desktop like a FTP. Hell if i click to play on music stored on the host pc it streams the sound through my current speakers. Its pretty epic all around from what iv experienced.
The reason I’m posting is to see if their are any other remote clients with the same features at a better price. As now that i have tried this its going to be hard to live without.
Feedback?

ParticipantYou won’t get anything like that for free.
Remote desktop has the file dragging desktop interaction that you’re looking for while VNC lets you log in from a browser but doesn’t have file interaction between the two machines.
It’s a trade off.

Participantseems like faulkner sent me an email not too long ago for a company that provides those types of things and if I’m not mistaken it was free

ParticipantWell…there’s a number of things here. VNC is probably the easiest. However Skype has a remote desktop extension, but thats only to your other skype friends.
If I were you, I’d stick with RDP. (Remote Desktop that comes with Windows). It’s the most feature rich.

ParticipantI use logmein. While their free edition isn’t that advanced, their pro version is. I’m content with the free version, though.

ParticipantJeez, you know, I log into SimpWebs box nearly every day via RDP, and nobody needs to accept.

Neither RDP or VNC need someone on at the remote machine. Hell with RDP all you need is an ethernet connection, no keyboard/mouse/monitor plugged into the remote machine. VNC might be like that now, last I tried it wasn’t.

ParticipantIdk how you managed to mess RDP up because it’s as simple as turning it on and walking away.
Maybe you’re confusing it with Remote Assistance.

Participantvery possably, its been a bit over a year the last I tryed realvnc/rdp.
think i was also getting issues with figure out how to get past the routers firewall, and dynamic ips are also a stick in the eye.
web based clients are awesome for fat/lazy/retards like myself
