Participantokay, to start off i want to say that when when summer vacation is over, im going to try to have another SSBB event at central. when we get back im going to talk to the RD about doing this every saturday. any help from the gaming club would be great (and anyone else that wants to help for that matter). also, if you do plan on coming to the first event, post on this topic as soon as possible because if it turns out to be the way it did last time, im going to HAVE to get someone else to bring more than one wii , but thats not a bad thing, I hope alot of people show. And finally on the matter of the wii’s, mine is broken right now and for some odd reason doesnt want to read brawl and more than likely im not going to be able to get it fixed by the time the first event kicks off so if you can bring a wii, post that your coming and say that you can bring a wii. thanks to all who came to my last SSBB event and I hope you all return and bring some friends with you!

ParticipantBrawl was the first dual-layer game released by Nintendo and there are documented cases of certain batches of Wiis having trouble with or completely failing to read the disc altogether. Call Nintendo’s support, last I heard they fixed this for free.
As for the event, get an advert poster ready now so that the RCCs can have them put up the week before move in. It would be awesome to have adverts for this all over campus BEFORE move in so people see it while making loads to their rooms. We can also clear this up with Reslife and/or the RDs before they get a chance to duck us.
If we get permission to put them up, me and Nickname can plaster all the dorms one afternoon as we have admin access to the dorms.

ParticipantYea, i heard about that brawl thing, talked to nintendo and since its having problems with RE4 also, they wont fix it for free since the warrenty is up.
As for the posters, Ill get to it asap, just gonna have to find a copier and some free time from work. Ill post back sooner or later with the finished product. And I hopefully I can get ahold of Kim or another RD soon and start talking to them about it to see about making it a weekly thing.

ParticipantYou have the gaming club’s support on this as far as I am concerned any way that we can help let us know and we’ll do what we can.

Participanti love the idea of getthm them up pre-move in day. it will be the only thing for them to look at and everyones board the first few days of movein. If anything definitely get the freshmen dorms.

ParticipantThanks Bitey, Ill definitly take you up on that. Anyone have a general idea of when we should start hanging the advertisments and the actual date of the event?
July 7, 2008 at 9:39 pm #50644Bitey
ParticipantIf you want to do one before the first meeting then you need to do so quickly, but no sooner than one day before the first day of move in, cause no one will see them till then anyways. Also please when you do get this thing going I would really appreciate it if you would promote the gaming club, and get people coming to meetings, that way we have an accurate representation of what the console gamers want to play. More console gamers at the general club meetings is what we need to bring you the games you want, in the past it has mostly been guessing on the PC gamers part and input from the 4 maybe 5 console gamers that showed up. I want MOAR participation from consolers otherwise this negative image that is being created will never go away.

ParticipantOk, I believe I have a date for the event. The date will be the 23rd and I will promote the club so we will have more people possibly coming to the meetings. I figure Ill give an announcement to the people that show up and promote the club to the best of my abilities (through a greeting speech and maybe fliers handed out) because if we get alot of people to show up to the meetings though the Smash events then more people will come to the LANs, resulting in a much better time.
As a side note, I may try to use this to help me run for Prez or VP since Ill be hosting these events if thats fine.
One more thing, Im definitly gonna need some help getting the fliers/advertisements printed out since I dont have a printer and the fact that Im broke.

The date will be the 23rdThat’s the safest date as anything sooner would be a turn off. The gaming club can get the fliers printed.
As for the flier, it’s good but needs some changes. Make sure you post WHERE the even is going to be and don’t require visiting the forums to register as that’s going to be a turn off for non-computer oriented people.

Participantok, ill revise it. I still might do the Sign up post thing though just so I can gauge how many people will show and what all I need to bring and have others bring.

ParticipantDo RSVP by phone, that will give people the option still, and accomplish what you want with gauging amount of people.

ParticipantIs the Smash events going by competitive banned maps, tier lists, 3 stock 1v1 best out of 3, 3 stock 2v2 best out of 3, and Wii Motes not allowed unless using the classic controller?
If so count me in and also…
I have a Wii but only one GC Controller. My friend who I 2v2 with has a Wii as well if they are needed.
My history in SSBM/SSBB:
I am from the NC SSBM/SSBB team Taco Bell Ocho (woot woot top in NC). We compete at a lot of events and are quite competitive. I slacked off from playing both games due to fact the team has kinda separated minus Adams who is the 1st NC player to ever get sponsored (LoZr doesn’t count hes from SC but never played a tournament in SC ahaha). Only reason why I posted this is Adams might come stop by the college to Smash with me and just fair warning if I bring him by. I win 1 out of 20 matches against him. No lie. He is that good.

ParticipantI doubt they use such rule settings.

Participantwe dont do 3 stock competitive matchs we do 2, 3 takes to long in brawl but in melee yea, we play 3 stock. We do do the banned maps. Don’t underestimate us here at West though, we do have some good Smashers here. If you want to come on over and see what were made of, come on by Central Drive next Saturday.

These smash events are mostly just a friendly get-together to just have something to do on Saturdays. There are usually a couple small tournaments, but really everyone just pretty much does whatever.
I’m sure if you wanted to play by tournament rules you could find some people to play with you, but the bo3 may not work; there are usually about 10-20 people waiting for a game so people just get bored and play it bo1, haha.
Also, there are a couple adept melee smashers hanging around campus who I am sure can put up a good fight, so bring all your friends and come play!

I certainly want to play you guys. I’ve been a competitive smasher for years and have been to tons of melee tourneys. I used to live up north and played with Chillin (so I’m definitely not a scrub lol) East Coast Eddie, and Jank all the time. Also, the rules you were talking about are the ones we have been using for the LANs. So definitely come to the LAN and we hold free smash every Saturday 6 pm till whenever in the central dorm multipurpose room. It’d be nice if you could come to the one this coming Saturday, I wanna see what you guys have got, especially in Melee. Come on down!
PS lol if these two are really the best in NC I might be the new best… Chillin, ECE, Jank and I would clown them…you guys HAVE to come down to WCU now, melee is too good
