Fascist Flakes (Jagr)
ParticipantGxti, that in theory is right. But when you have 3500 points or so you start only killing people for 3-5 points, if not 2 points, each time. Meanwhile people who are new come in and kill you and get 25, 18, etc. In theory, you would need a 4:1 ratio just in order to stay positive.

ParticipantOk so how do you guys in the top 10 stay there? If it was such a big problem your ranks would drop every day more and more, but they haven’t, right?

ParticipantKdr doesnt exactly mean everything with this point system, as you can lose up to 20-25 points pwe death… and can gain as low as 2 points per kill..

ParticipantFlakes is right, I can have a session of +2 KDR over a few hours span and still lose points, even though my average KDR is only like 1.47 or something… One map I even had +4KDR and was only like +10 points.
As someone who has played on the server alot, the points dont seem to revolve around skill at all, it just depends on who’s playing at the time and how easy it is to complete the objective. There has been times when I have been under 1 KDR and have gained points simply by getting the bomb down so much, I dont see a whole lot of skill involved in that… If your wish is to make it completely about skill, eliminate points from warmup, and get rid of point bonuses for rescueing hostages and planting/defusing the bomb. Then the point system would be based entirely on skill…
I manage to stay in the top10 by completing objectives, if it weren’t for that I’d clearly be just an average player in the whole mix of things.

ParticipantI’ve made a final decision, so you can stop bickering now: I’ll cap the points to 10 or so.
April 15, 2007 at 10:44 pm #19971Brian
ParticipantThe points were that way because it is was a reflection of your skill versus other players skill. KDR does not accurately reflect that. A person can bait, have a great KDR, lotsa points from scavenge kills, but not really be that great of a player. People who can stay in the top ten while still getting busted by the 25 pops may actually deserve it. Will a cap of 10 points actually reflect this fact?
Hmmm, if you really want to look at skill check your kdr versus other people, how many times they have killed you, and how many times you have been killed by them. Whatever anomalous varience between players us explained by playing styles.

Participantif you check the stats you can see my KDR is horrible, yet im climbing.. this is because i plant bombs, defuse bombs, and cut tons of people up with knives.
p.s. eat my burgers

Participantmeh too. Well, it hasn’t climbed in the last few days due to inactivity, but man, I play sk a lot and I know how to pull off some mad crazy knife runs.

ParticipantAll I have to say is people get too many points for killing me.
And the point system needs a weapon modifier
April 24, 2007 at 11:47 pm #20322gxti
ParticipantIt has one.

Participanti personally love losing 25 points to a knife by teh same person i knifed to get 2 points. it makes me feel alive.
May 25, 2007 at 3:14 pm #21217MachineGunFunk
ParticipantI agree, I don’t like to spend a half hour pwning n00bs just to get shot in the back once and lose over 20 points. My suggestion would be to put a Max cap on it like 10 points or something. 20+ for 1 death sucks.
May 25, 2007 at 3:17 pm #21218the burger king
Participantor a total revamp of how the system works using a finely turned mathmatical equation
if ‘burgerking’ = “kills you” then burgerking +500 points.
all in favor?

ParticipantWhat I honestly think they should do with the ranking system, is set it up so that somebody needs a certain amount of kills in order to take serious points away from somebody. Make the amount like 50 or 100. Because the hlstats is setup for skill ranking amongst the same people.
May 25, 2007 at 10:49 pm #21232Outie5000
ParticipantThe problem with that, as said before, is that people fresh into the server feel less “welcome” by having to achieve a certain amount of kills to begin ranking.
The ideal way to do it, would be to apply a weapon modifier in part with a kdr reader, so that the higher your kdr in game, the less points you get, and the lower the more you get. so everyone gets equal points whether they have 1000 or 4000 points. That way, if you’re pwning newbs you get minimal points, and if you’re sucking and spring back to life, you get a good point scale.
i love scotch
May 26, 2007 at 2:17 am #21237Durka the Jawa Lord
ParticipantWell true people feel less welcomed, so make it 25. That way if they are true noobs who end up like 5/20 they wont stay anyway because they get owned so bad, and they wont *edited* off the rank *edited*s.
May 26, 2007 at 7:37 pm #21242Outie5000
Participantor maybe once the top level gets over 4k up the minimum to 2k or 2500. and when the number one gets past 5, up it again.

Participantoutie I agree with your previous statement about having a more “equal” points system to go by instead of high ranks get low points and low ranks get high points…… i know that for instance i’m not that high of a rank but when someone new comes in and they are excepional players, it just gets so frustrating loosing 9-18 points per death… i know some other people loose more than that but i’m just using this as an exaple… at least with a more eqaul point system opportunity we will be able to get those points back and not be so frustrated all the time and we would possably play longer. b/c with that i recall many instances where exceptionaly high ranked players get killed and just leave, whice doesn’t help with the plain social aspects of the game nor the challenge/ conflicts faced.

ParticipantI dont think points should be changed because you all know you will still come back cause it is a great server!

ParticipantI think the point system is cool
but I think there are somethings we can tweak around just for fun! (like Shank = 40 pts on SK to *edited* off Bucket
)meh, I like it cept when Chupa or rice shanks me
hehe
anyways, I always thought the WCU CS:S server kicked
. haha, i’m bored, i’m at work and it’s so deadJune 14, 2007 at 2:25 pm #22234blu3
ParticipantLike I said in the other thread, and like a few others have said in this thread, objectives and winning the round become far more important than kills. Objective play is good. I can have a very high K:D ratio (12:1, for example) and it means jack if my team is losing the round and/or not completing the objective.
I expect to keep gaining points, though, in that I play for the win.

Participantcould new people have to wait until the hit a certain hour of gameplay and then they could recieve points on some sort of scale on how well they did during that time?
oh and i don’t think nades should nail you for a 1.2 modifer or whatever it is
and flashbangs modifer should be 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000 or something so when it does happen you get all their points (yes all! ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL) none of this 10 point limit, in fact no limit anymore! lets put back the challenge
oh and give liam his admin back (if it was ganked, i think i heard something about that but i could be wrong..happens a lot)

rofl, I didn’t have my admin yanked. It’s so hard to kill with a nade the modifier on it seems fine to me. Its kinda like knives.

Though on the point cap, I do like it being limited though. I remember loosing 20+ points to people and that wasn’t too long ago.
